Governing Council NewsGoverning Council NewsGoverning Council NewsGoverning Council News Working Bee Success Last Sunday we held a second working bee with several parents and students getting their hands (and clothes!) covered with dirt and paint. As a result of their hard work, the following things have been re-painted:- the tables and benches under the lunch shelter, hand rails and steps to classrooms, safety markings at door entrances, handball courts and student benches. A huge pile of bark chips has been relocated and the external walls of the Early Learning Years Centre have been washed down. Listed below are the parents who volunteered their time to help beautify our school. They were: Anja & Chris Dickel, Katherine & Bruno Siefert, Rebecca Sherman, Melanie Lovejoy, David and Lynette Holland, Martin Douglas and Carey Greenslade.

Photo Booth Fundraiser Some students from Year 5 have planned to conduct a Photo Booth on the last day of term as a fundraising activity for the Year 6/7 Canberra Camp in 2017. Students can have a funny photo taken wearing costumes, wigs or crazy sunglasses supplied by the Photo Booth operators. Each photo will cost $2 per person. The Photo Booth will be located on the Fake Grass area and will be conducted during Recess and Lunchtimes. The students will be able to see a ‘photo proof’ on the day with a good copy printed up over the holiday break ready to be handed out in Week 1 of the new term. For details of the Photo Booth see Bridey, Mikayla & Emma in Room 6.

Parking Problems

Over the past fortnight or so the traffic monitors have noticed an increase in the number of parents disregarding the rules about parking near the road crossing. Some of major offences committed include parking in the No Standing zone, Parking in the Kiss and Drop area and leaving their vehicle, parking in the Kiss and Drop for more than 2 minutes plus other unsafe practices like blocking the road waiting for a park to doing ‘U’ turns in front of oncoming traffic.

The Road Traffic rules are as follows:

No Parking Signs: You must not park your vehicle in an area where a 'No Parking' sign applies, unless:

• You are dropping off or picking up passengers or goods

• You do not leave the vehicle unattended - that is, move more than three metres away and

• You complete the dropping off or picking up as soon as possible - in any case, within two minutes.

No Standing Signs: a No Standing sign has the same meaning as a No Stopping sign. You cannot park in a No Standing zone during the times specified on the signs. The No Standing zones are identified by the yellow lines marked on the road. The local council parking inspectors and SA police will be patrolling the school zone and will issue fines where necessary.

For the safety of all children please abide by these rules.

Lost Property The two lost property baskets are currently overflowing with school windcheaters and bomber jackets. Some of these have names but most do not! Can parents please take some time to go through the pile of ‘lost’ clothing before the end of term? Over the holidays items of clothes not labelled will be returned to our second hand clothing stock or given away to charity.

Breakfast Club Next week, the 28th Of September is Breakfast Club’s 12th Birthday, come and celebrate and try our pancakes!

Adelaide Show Achievements

At the recent Royal Adelaide Show, two of our students, Sophia and Felix, entered items in the Junior Art Craft Design /Sculpture section. This was the first time that they had entered anything in the Show and both children were awarded Medals of Merit for their plasticine sculptures Zoo Animals and a Collage. Well done!

This term in boys group we have been doing sand therapy which has been received with mixed reactions by the boys. The idea behind it is allowing students to mimic life situations in a sandbox by using miniature objects that represent their feelings. Also this term, rooms 8, 9 and 10 have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Kimochis (toys with feelings). They have learnt about a range of different feelings through some of the different toys including Bug, Cloud, Huggtopus, Cat and Lovey Dove. Have a great school holiday break and I’ll see you next term. Amber (School Counsellor) [email protected]

Festival Choir Congratulations to all of the members of our school choir. Their performance at the Festival of Music was fantastic. I am pleased to announce that Sarah (Yr7) and Nathan (Yr 7) have been selected to participate in the recording process for the 2017 Festival of Music CD. They will become part of the S.A. Public Primary Schools Choir which has recorded songs for the CD that is used by schools in the following year. All the SAPPS Choir members auditioned to be part of the recording choir and will record 4 songs for the CD. This is indeed an honour and a privilege for Sarah and Nathan as well as a fantastic learning process. Well done! Further congratulations and thanks go to Lee Ching for her work in leading our choir again this year. We would like to thank Sandy McAvaney, Narelle McLachlan, Deb Nurton, Julieanne Keefe and Samantha Avard for their help supervising the excursion to the rehearsal performance. We would also like to thank the parents who also helped out with transporting the choir to Magic Millions rehearsals earlier this Term.
