SHIRDI DAIRY BY SHRI G.S. KHAPARDE 1910 December 6 Tuesday

Shirdi.

In the morning, the poor woman Tai was much discussed & they blamed her.

I feel pity for her insanity. I had a walk, & after bath we all saw Sayin Maha-

raj going out with an embroidered big umbrella held over his head. Later on

we went to Masjid. Sayin Maharaj was talking. He said speaking to himself

there is no use being threatened. It does no good. Why should we threaten?

There are very high officers of God. They are very powerful. The same thing

was repeated very often. He appeared somewhat excited. Then he got up, dis-

tributed the food accumulated there, and after giving udi-ashes requested us to

withdraw. We did so. The midday meal was not served nearly half-past two in

the afternoon. After it we sat talking, saw Sayin Maharaj in the evening when

he came out for a walk. Later on we went to the Chavadi where Sayin Maha-

raj sleeps tonight. He was accompanied by the Umbrella of State, silver stick,

chavaris & fans etc. The place was tastefully lighted. The lady who is known

as Radha Krishna came out with lights. She is related to Babasaheb

Deshpande of Ahmednagar. I saw her from a distance. Madhavrao Deshpande

said he would be away tomorrow & return the day after. He asked for & ob-

tained Sayin Maharaja ’s permission to go.

SAI’S NEWS FROM TIME MACHINE Incident with Kaka Mahajani - Once Kaka went to Shirdi from Mumbai. He

wanted to stay for one week and enjoy the Gokul Ashtami festival. As soon as

he took Baba’s darshan, Baba asked him, “When are you returning home?”

He was very upset and surprised at this question. But, he had to give an an-

swer. So he said that he would go home, when He ordered. Then Baba said ,

“Go tomorrow!” Baba’s word was law and was obeyed immediately and so

Kaka left Shirdi immediately. When he went to the office in Mumbai, he

found that his employer was anxiously waiting for him as his manager sud-

denly fell ill. Hence, Kaka’s presence was absolutely necessary. Then Kaka

realised the importance of why Sai made him return to fulfil his du-

ties. (Satcharita ch.XII).

DEVOTEES EXPERIENCE

DEVOTEES CORNER

Sairam,

MANY TIMES I have heard that god calls his bhakts for his service, nobody

else can understand the truth behind his statement other than me. I am born

in a staunch Brahmin family where all the gods were present except Sai

Baba. I used to go to missionary school so you can say that there was no

sight of baba in my life. One day during my way to school my scooter tire

got inflated in front of a temple, I called my brother to pick me up. He asked

me to wait and he will there at the earliest. Seeing no other option I parked

my scooter under a tree and went inside the temple. The moment I stepped

inside the temple a sense of peace and calmness descended on me, that was

my first step in Sai Baba temple. Life changed after this visit, baba called me

in his service and I happily adhered to his summons.

I felt the presense of Baba many times in my life but the most moving ex-

perience was my marriage episode which I would like share with the rest of

the devotees. This happened two years back, my parents were searching

match for me but unfortunately no proper match was in sight. The frustration

and humiliation were piling, suddenly we received a call from Merrut they

wanted to meet the family and the girl. My parents agreed for the meeting,

everything went fine and I was introduced to the guys. After the boy’s family

THE DREAMS TRAIN

(Dreams Of Saibanisa after Undergoing Bypass Surgery on 17-5-1996)

Compiled by Saibandhu Raghu Raman Satulury

29-01-1997:

Sai appeared as Police Officer and said:

Never feel elated with ill-gotten wealth. Imagine a situation wherein your

kith and kin are kidnapped and a ransom is demanded by the kidnappers. The

mental agony will be beyond words. Therefore do not attempt to earn money

by fraudulent means.

If you desire to get rid of the greed for others money, firstly part with your

hard earned money by giving away in charities.

Earn money enough to fulfil the basic necessities of life.

gave their consent for marriage, my family wanted to have the marriage at the earliest but I wanted to

know the guy well before any ceremony. The more I got to know the guy the more I realized he is not the

man for me, we shared different wavelenghts. The pressure from both the families were also increasing,

finally one night I kneeled down in front of Sai Baba and asked him, if we are not suitable for each other

then please Baba help me in calling off this relationship and send the right guy at the earliest. I have heard

that miracles happen but for the first tme in my life felt it, next day both the families have an argument on

some issue and the whole thing was called off. I was relieved and thanked Baba. Days passed and next

week Tuesday we received the call from my present in laws about fixing the meeting for Thursday. We

both met and scheduled date and from the beginning the meeting went on fabulously. The parents liked

each other, we both liked each other, by the grace of Baba everything went smoothly.

It has been three years of a happy and blissful married life, Baba has blessed us with a son. I can say ear-

nestly that if you place your complete faith in Baba then he will never let you down. Let us be his proud

children. Sai Ram

(A RECORD OF THRILLING EXPERIENCES OF (LATE) DR.P.S.RAMASWAMI AN ARDENT DEVOTEE OF

SHRI SHIRDI SAI BABA)

BABA'S MIRACLE THROUGH GURUJI-1 "Why fear when I am here"?

- Baba

WOMAN SAVED FROM HAVING TO UNDERGO CAESARIAN (1967) Among the ardent devotees of Baba at Jabalpur were a young Maharashtrian husband and

wife who did nothing without obtaining Guruji's prior approval. Accordingly, they got it

before the lady was admitted in the Lady Elgin Hospital for Women for her confinement.

In the course of routine examination including X-ray, it was found that the baby lay across

the womb and would have to be taken out by a caesarian operation by cutting open the wall

of the abdomen. This being a major operation involving an element of risk to life, It was

necessary to obtain the written approval of the husband for the purpose. However, when he

was asked to fill the relevant form and sign it, he ran to the darbar to seek Guruji's approval

for or against doing so.

It so happened that Guruji was about to offer the noon 'aarti' to Baba, when this gentleman

reached the darbar. Greatly perturbed and in an excited tone he wished to know whether he

should give his consent for the operation or fetch his wife way back home for delivery. At

least that is what he later claimed to have said. It was not known what exactly Guruji had

heard him say. The conversation was in Marathi which Guruji spoke besides Tamil, Te-

lugu, Urdu and Hindi. He said, "Do so" (Asankra) and went on with the 'aarti'. The hus-

band, however, felt convinced that it was a reply to the latter part of his question and meant

he should fetch his home.

The greatly relieved husband sped back like an arrow to the hospital and without even as

much as a by your leave' to the doctor or nurse began escorting his wife out of the ward to

the waiting rickshaw outside. Prof. Mrs. Dave, the gynaecologist, was informed and came

hurrying to the ward to warn the man in no uncertain terms the grave risk, may be death en

route, to which he was exposing his wife by this fool hardiness. But no, nothing would de-

ter him. Guruji had spoken his approval. Hence, there was no fear. Rather he was happy

that the danger of the cursed operation was warded off. The lady too was no less happy.

Such was their FAITH in Guruji. "FAITH" as St. Augustine said, "is to believe what you

do no see, and the reward of that faith is to see what you believe."

In this new found joy, the couple reached home safely and the lady already suffering from

the pains of labour was put to bed. Even before any mid-wife could be called, rather with-

out any need for it, she delivered without much trouble a healthy baby. The Master obste-

trician had seen to it! Glory be to Baba's name! To Sai Nama Mahima!

Homoeopathy had been a desultory hobby with me for a long time. I kept a small box of medicines but they were

used occasionally at home or for 'a .select few who sought help. To the best of my knowledge and belief none of us

had refered about this to Guruji. However, one day he sent word through one of my sons, who was a regular visitor

to Baba's darbar, asking me to start practice. I ascertained from my son that there had been no previous talk regard-

ing the subject. I then attrdibuted Guruji's knowledge to his second sight of which he had given proof on certain oc-

casions. But the big question was how to comply with the advice. In the first place, I was not registered as a Ho-

moeopath. Secondly. I did not enjoy the sort of health to do justice to the job. Thirdly, I funked. I was afraid of giv-

ing remedies which might prove worse than the disease. So, I just kept my own counsel and took no action.

Some days later, one morning, Guruji himself came and said abruptly, "Come, I want you to treat a patient who was

in the Victoria Hospital for some months without any benefit and continues to be bedridden. He is Mr. Patil, superin-

tendent in Defence Accounts, now on loss-of-pay-leave, and the family is in great trouble and the sons still at Col-

lege. They are all devoted to Baba". My heart was in my mouth as I heard this account. I felt this was asking me bite

more than I could chew. I marshalled enough courage to tell Guruji that I had not so far treated even one such case,

and he should kindly spare me. One remarkable thing about him was he would not argue with any one on any issue

nor try to press his point. He would simply say, it is all Baba's will. Likewise, he now said, "All right, if you feel like

that, leave it". Being an introvert and given to introspection. I felt at once that I had not properly understood him. He

obviously wanted me to be merely an instrument, (Nimitta Matra) and he would do the rest by invoking Baba's

grace. So, why fuss about it? So, I told Guruji that, on second thoughts, I was prepared to do my best. " Ah, yes, that

is why I came to you. Now, before we go, I want you to give me a dose of medicine for my old ear-discharge". This

was another surprise, because so far I had not seen him using any medicine. He only used to put a few drops of

'abhisheka-theerthom' in the ear. I did accordingly without further thought. Now I realise it was a kind of symbolic

imitation for me as homoeopath. As Robert Oppenheimer, the associate of Albert Einstein, says, "symbolism is more

real than fact, especially in religious and spiritual matters".

Now, I followed Guruji to see Patil. He was practically in moblised who lay still in bed. I was feeling my hollowness

as a doctor. I was, however, sustained by the belief that 'God cures and the doctor takes the credit'. I prescribed a

daily dose of Kali Phos 200x and came home after seeing Guruji off to the Darbar. My thought were on Shri Patil

almost on end. Yet, I did not pick up enough courage to go and see him for three days. There was a sneaking fear he

might be worse. But, what was I to say if Guruji wished to know how the patient was progressing. This thought

alone dragged me to Shri Patils house on the morning of the fourth day. As with trepidation I entered the room

where I expected to see him lying motionless in bed, I was shocked with astonishment at what I saw. The gentleman,

supporting and propelling himself with both the hands resting against the wall, was slowly perambulating around. I

stood speechless wondering whether to believe my eyes. Truth, indeed, was proving stranger than fiction. When he

turned round and saw me, he burst out sobbing with tears streaming down his cheeks and uttering incoherently,

"Baba, Baba, you have come, you have saved me Baba," and so on. Swami Vivekananda said that, to a hungry man,

God has to come in the from of bread (Annam Brahma) . Similarly, in retrospect, it strikes me that Shri Patil saw

Baba in me, his doctor, for the nonce. The Master Physician had taken over! The veil over my eyes, so to say, as far

as my poor understanding and appreciation of Guruji's 'at-one-ment' with Baba was concerned, was removed in a

trice. I also came to see clearly that, with Baba as my Sheet-Anchor and Guruji as pilot, I could boldly venture ahead

in the practice of Homoeopathy, which accordingly I did, and, in spite of myself, was enabled to produce many mira-

cle cures. On Guruji's advice, I applied for registration, which I was granted on the basis of age and proven experi-

ence. I was officially launched on a career as a Homoeopath.

Glory be to Shri Shirdi Sai - Grace be to all

Story for this Week: “ Beware of Mean Friends”

This is one more interesting story from the Hitopadesha Tales. Once upon a time, there lived

a Lion by the name of Madotkata in a forest. Among his followers, a Jackal, a Crow and a

Wolf had developed friendship with him. However, all the three had a selfish motive behind

this so-called friendship. They knew that the Lion was the King of the forest and friendship

with such fierce creature would always help them. To meet their selfish ends, they started

obeying and were always available at the service of the Lion.

They didn’t have to make any efforts to search for their food, as the Lion used to give his left-

over meals to them. Moreover, they became powerful as they were next to the King of the

forest. So like this, all the three selfish friends were passing their days happily being the

friends of the Lion. One day, a Camel, who came from some distant land, lost his way and

entered the same forest where these friends lived. He tried his best to find out the way, but

could not make it.

In the meantime, these three friends happened to pass through the same way where the Camel

was wandering. When they saw the Camel, at once it came to their mind that he didn’t belong

to their forest. The Jackal suggested to his other two friends, “Let’s kill and eat him”. The

Wolf replied, “It is a big animal. We could not kill him like this. I think, first we should in-

form our King about this Camel”. The Crow agreed upon the idea given by the Wolf. After

deciding, all of them went to meet the Lion.

On reaching the Lion’s den, the Jackal approached the Lion and said, “Your Majesty, an un-

known Camel has dared to enter your kingdom without your consent. His body is full of flesh

and he could make a nice meal for us. Let’s kill him”. The Lion roared loudly on hearing this

and said, “What are you saying? The Camel has come for refuge in my kingdom. It is unethi-

cal to kill him like this. We should provide him the best shelter. Go and bring him to me”. All

of them got dispirited to hear such words from the King.

They unwillingly went to the Camel and told him about the desire of the Lion, who wanted to

meet him. The Camel was scared to know about the strange offer. He thought that his last

moment had come and in a little while he would become the meal of the Lion. As he couldn’t

even escape, so he decided to meet the Lion and left everything on the destiny. The selfish

friends escorted the Camel to the Lion’s den. The Lion was happy to see the Camel. He wel-

comed him warmly and assured him of all the safety in the forest during his stay.

The Camel was totally amazed to hear the Lion’s words. He got very happy and started living

with the Jackal, the Crow and the Wolf. One day, when the Lion was hunting for food, he

had a struggle with a mighty Elephant. The Lion got badly injured in the struggle and be-

came incapable of hunting for his food. Stricken by bad luck, the Lion had to sustain with-

out food for days. Due to this, his friends too had to go hungry for days as they totally de-

pended on the Lion’s kill for their food. But the Camel was satisfied grazing around in the

forest.

All the three friends got worried and discussed the matter among them. On reaching a con-

clusion, they approached the Lion and said, “Your Majesty, you are getting weak day by

day. We can’t see you in this wretched condition. Why don’t you kill the Camel and eat

him?” The Lion roared, “No. How can you think such thing? He is our guest and we

should not kill him. Don’t give such suggestions to me in future”. As the jackal, the crow

and the wolf had set their evil eyes on the camel; they met once again and devised

a plan to kill the Camel.

They went to the Camel and said, “Dear Friend, you know our King has not eaten anything

from the past many days. He is unable to go for hunting due to his wounds and sickness.

Under such circumstances, it becomes our duty to sacrifice ourselves to save the life of our

king. Come with us, we will offer our bodies to make his food”. The Camel didn’t under-

stand their plan, but innocently he nodded in favor of their plan. All of them approached

the den of the Lion.

First of all, the Crow came forward and said, “Your Majesty, we didn’t succeed in getting

any food for you. I can’t see you like this. Please eat me and make me obliged”. The Lion

replied, “Dear, I will prefer to die than to perform such a sinful deed”. Then, the Jackal

came forward and said, “Your Majesty, Crow’s body is too small to satisfy your appetite. I

offer myself to you, as it is my duty to save your life”. The Lion politely rejected the offer.

As per the plan, now it was the turn of the Wolf to offer himself to the King.

So, the Wolf came forward and said, “Your Majesty, Jackal is quite small to gratify your

hunger. I offer myself for this kind job. Please kill me and satisfy your hunger”. After say-

ing this, he lay prostrate before the Lion. But the Lion didn’t kill any of them. The Camel,

who was watching the whole scene felt reassured of his safety and also decided to go for-

ward and complete the formality. He marched forward and said, “Your Majesty, why don’t

you kill me. You are my friend. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Please allow me to of-

fer you my body”.

The Lion found the offer quite appropriate, as the Camel himself had offered his body for

food, his ethics were maintained. The Lion attacked the Camel at once, ripped open his

body and tore him into pieces. The Lion and his friends ate the delicious flesh to their fill.

They feasted on the poor Camel for days together.

SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SATCHARITA ~ CHAPTER 42 Contributed by: [email protected]

Baba's Passing Away Averting Death of Ramachandra and Tatya Patil

Some time after this, Ramachandra Patil became seriously ill. He suffered a lot. He

tried all remedies, but finding no relief, despaired of his life and was waiting for the

last moment. Then one midnight Baba suddenly stood near his pillow. Patil held His

Feet and said - "I have lost all hopes of life, please tell me definitely when I shall

die." Merciful Baba said - "Don't be anxious, your hundi (death-warrant) has been

withdrawn and you will soon recover, but I am afraid of Tatya Patil. He will pass

away on Vijayadashami of Shaka 1840 (1918 A.D.). Do not divulge this to anybody,

nor to him, for he will be terribly frightened." Ramachandra Dada got well, but he

felt nervous about Tatya's life, for he knew that Baba's word was unalterable, and

that Tatya would breathe his last within two years. He kept this hint secret, told it to

none but one Bala Shimpi (a tailor). Only these two persons - Ramachandra Dada

and Bala Shimpi were in fear and suspense regarding Tatya's life.

Ramachandra Dada soon left his bed and was on his legs. Time passed quickly. The

month of Bhadrapad of Shaka 1840 (1918 A.D.) was ending and Ashwin was in

sight. True to Baba's word, Tatya fell sick and was bed-ridden; and so he could not

come for Baba's darshan. Baba was also down with fever. Tatya had full faith in

Baba and Baba in Lord Hari, who was His Protector. Tatya's illness began to grow

from bad to worse and he could not move at all but always remembered Baba. The

predicament of Baba began to grow equally worse. The day predicted, i.e.,

Vijayadashami was impending and both Ramachandra Dada and Bala Shimpi were

terribly frightened about Tatya and with their bodies trembling and perspiring with

fear, thought that as predicted by Baba, Tatya's end was nigh. Vijayadashami

dawned and Tatya's pulse began to beat very slow and he was expected to pass away

shortly. But a curious thing happened. Tatya remained, his death was averted and

Baba passed away in his stead. It seemed as if there was an exchange. People said

that Baba gave up His life for Tatya; why He did so? He alone knows as His ways

are inscrutable. It seems, however, that in this incident, Baba gave a hint of His pass-

ing away, substituting Tatya's name for His.

Next morning (16th October) Baba appeared to Das Ganu at Pandharpur in his

dream and said to him - "The Masjid collapsed, all the oilmen and grocers of Shirdi

teased me a lot, so I leave the place. I therefore came to inform you here, please go

there quickly and cover me with 'Bhakkal' flowers." Das Ganu got the information

also from Shirdi letters. So he came to Shirdi with his disciples and started bhajan

and kirtan and sang the Lord's name, all through the day before Baba's samadhi.

Himself weaving a beautiful garland of flowers studded with Lord Hari's name he

placed it on Baba's samadhi and gave a mass-feeding in Baba's name.

Quintessence from Shri Sai Baba’s Philosophy (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) ~ Contribution by "Shashank"[email protected], Mrs and Mr Anand

Chapter 35: The Wheel of Time and the Pangs of sorrow and Death

Continued from last issue

Atma is permanent and is without birth and death is transient. So the union of atma and body is also

transient. So the separation is inevitable and so do not moan death. If one perceives with concentra-

tion, he can understand the death is not very dangerous and weeping in anticipation of death is igno-

rance.

That your body gains its luster from its indweller who is God. As long as the indweller resides in the

body, it is full of fragrant and life. The moment this indweller leaves the holy, the body becomes foul

and obnoxious. With out its indweller the body is a reprehensible thing, far from being fragrant, it

just emits bad smell from moment to moment. The power of discrimination is unique to mankind.

This discrimination power is given to you, can understand and separate the body minded so that we

people complex from Atman which is eternal and so try to find out the Atma in all of you. Pray the

Almighty to lead you from untruth to truth, from darkness to light, from death to immortality and

pray God to bestow peace on all of you.

A human being takes on an average 21,600 breaths per day i.e. about 900 per hour or 15 per minute.

Of these 10,800 breaths are taken during the day time. At the time of birth only, God fixes to every

one of you that how many times you have take breath during your life span. After the expiry of that

period, you will leave your bodies. So your life depends on breath only but not on age. If you stop

breathing, that will come into your account and your life span will be increased.

Will be continued...
