What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for “Voice over IP” In short, VoIP implies that “voice” is carried

over your computer network This does not necessarily imply that calls in/out

of the organization are routed over the Internet Calls in/out of the organization can come over

the Internet OR traditional phone service We achieve “network convergence” Three key elements: 1Phone, 2) PBX, 3) Phone

Service Do not confuse “system features” with VoIP Digital does not necessarily mean VoIP

Internet Calling

Internet based calling key features: Phone numbers no longer equal physical lines We can centralize numbers from area codes all over the

state We take advantage of an ITSPs backend connection to the

phone company and spend less on calls Less expensive DIDs Bundle Internet service with voice service through

common provider to save money Don’t “over buy” phone service. One less vendor.

Key thing to consider is quality due to Internet latencies. We need to use a provider that is closely connected. Our best results have been through Iserv.

Worksighted itself has been running in this scenario for two years and has saved approximately $500/mo in overall combined Internet and Phone charges through Iserv.
