Loxsom was part of a USA quartet that won the 4 x 800m at the IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, and won the USA 600m indoor title in an American record 1:15.55. The Penn State graduate, who moved to Seattle to join the Brooks Beasts and train under Beasts coach Danny Mackey, finished third at the USA championships behind teammate Nick Symmonds and Erik Sowinski in a time of 1:45.35 after setting his personal best in winning his semifinal heat in a personal best 1:44.92. Taiwo earned his spot on Team USA with a second place finish in the USA championships, scoring 8275 points, his second best career score. He scored a personal best 8303 at the Gotzis Hypo-Bank Meeting, winning two events, the high jump and the 1500. After injuring himself in the long jump at the Moscow world championships two years ago, he took the 2014 season off to rehabilitate himself and move to the US Olympic training center in Chula Vista, California. The rehab work paid off, as he won the USA indoor heptathlon title earlier this year. He also briefly held the world lead in the event after winning the UW Invitational in Seattle, scoring 6344 points, and taking the facility record of 6174 points held by Olympic champ Ashton Eaton. The 2007 world champion finished third in the USA championships and will make his fourth appearance at this meet. as he finished second in Helsinki, and fourth in Moscow. After the USA championships, he finished third in Edmonton, fifth in Monaco, failed to clear a height in London and at the NACAC championships in Costa Rica. The Purdue graduate won her sixth national title in June, throwing 213-1 (64.94m) in round 1. On the road to Beijing, she won the NACAC title in San Jose, Costa Rica, and finished second in the Pan Am Games in Toronto. Winger also competed in IAAF Diamond League meets in London (fifth), and Paris (sixth) after the USA championships. Husband Russ will throw the discus in the world championships, as the second place finisher in the US championships officially qualified for the world championships by winning the NACAC championship meet in Costa Rica. Beijing marks Winger’s third world championship meet appearance, having previously thrown in Berlin and Daegu.
