Research suggests:
• “Liking instructional television is not always correlated with learning from it”
• Learners tend to fail in learning from televised instruction bcs they are not mentally engaged by it and are therefore passive.

Compression Tips
compression
Bit/Data Rate
• Controls the amount of video information that must be processed each second during playback.
• Higher the data rate the higher the possible quality; Visual content quality still factors in
• Broadband: Set to 128 kbps; 56K set to 40kbs
Streaming vs. Progressive
• Progressive Download: The movie player calculates how long it will take to download the movie and begins playback once enough has been downloaded so that it can play back uninterrupted.
• Streaming: Doesn’t download a file to a hard drive. Quality of video constrained by network or modem bandwidth.
Video Encoding Formats
• .flv /.f4v: Flash video codec• H.264: Format for most mobile
devices• MPEG: 1,2,4 – Compression standard• .m4v: MP4 that plays with iTunes• .mov: Quicktime Format• .wmv: Windows Media• .rpm: Real Player
