The Conference was greeted by Respected Governor of Chhattisgarh Shri Shekhar Dutta

and inaugurated by Prof. S.K. Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University,

Raipur on 15th

November at 10:30 A.M. in C.V. Raman Hall, Science Block of the University.

He felt the need of the popularization of Statistics as it is applicable to most of the subjects.

Again, talking about socio-economic scenario of Chhattisgarh, Prof. Pandey called Statisticians

to make various segments of their studies for the development of Chhattisgarh state.

Prof. Arvind Pandey, Director, National Institute of Medical Statistics, ICMR, Ansari

Nagar, New Delhi was Chief Guest and Key Note Speaker. He delivered lecture on ‘Modeling

and Estimation of Disease Burden due to HIV/ AIDS in India and Understanding About

Chhattisgarh’. The model was based on four parameters, namely, start of the year of the

epidemic, force of infection, initial growth rate and initial population under the risk of infection.

Further, he suggested the need of attention of policy and programme managers for appropriate

intervention in the population. Prof. H.R. Singh, Ex-Vice Chancellor, Pt. R.S.U. Raipur; Prof.

B.N. Pandey, B.H.U. Varanasi; Prof. M. Pal, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata were Special

Guests of Inaugural Function of the Conference.

A special lecture of Mr. Yogendra Singh, Addl. Director General , National Academy of

Statistical Administration, Greater Noida, was organized where he discussed Official Statistical

system in India. Talking to the Press Reporters, Mr. Singh explored that Statistics subject is very

useful to the students of Chhattisgarh from job point of view. In this context, he called them to

join Indian Statistical Service as their participation from Chattisgarh state is very low. Further,

Prof. B.N. Pandey described his study on estimation of parameters of Inverse Gaussian

Distribution; while Prof. S.K. Acharya, Sambalpur University, discussed a change point problem

in a place or time with varying distributions.

On Second day dated 16/11/2013,. in the same session, Prof. M. Pal, Indian Statistical

Institute, Kolkata presented his paper on estimating Caloric- poverty rates through regression. He

has applied his technique to 61st round data collected by National Sample Survey Organization (

NSSO), India on caloric intakes. Again, Prof. T. Srivankataramana, Banglore University,

outlined the chief issues on Web based Surveys. In next Session, Prof. D. K. Ghosh delivered

his talk on Design of Experiments, especially, for variance balanced designs with their

optimality.

Prof. S.K. Upadhyay, Banaras Hindu University, discussed bio-statistical problems

using Bayes Paradigm talking on Bio-Statistics. Similarly, Pof. S.N. Dwivedi , All India Institute

of Medical Sciences, New Delhi highlighted Epidemiological measures of association under

various study designs.

Prof. S.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, MATS University, Raipur discussed various

reliability models for triple conveyor system of coke-oven area in Bhilai Steel Plant. Further,

Prof. R.N. Mishra, Patna University, presented his study on productivity and efficiency of Indian

Cement Industries through econometric models. In next session, Prof. M.N. Patel, Gujarat

University, Ahmedabad delivered a talk on the estimation of two-parameter Bath-tub shaped

life-time model using progressive censored data.

On third day, 17/11/2014, Prof. G.C. Mishra, Institute of Agriculture, Banaras Hindu

University, delivered a talk on artificial neural networking models for forecasting in Agriculture.

Prof., A. Rajrathinum, Manonmanniam Sundarnar University, Tiruvenelli proposed some

stochastic models for crop production. Prof. Ravi Saxena, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University,

Raipur described the spatial distribution and seasonal activity of measure insects on Linseed in

Chhattisgarh.

In the field of Quality Control, Prof. P.G. Khot, Nagpur University confined his talk on

Fuzzy technique for Academics to improve quality of education. Again, Prof. P.G. Dixit, Pune

discussed a new criterion to determine optimal sample size for Shewharat Control Chart. He

proved that this technique minimizes average time to signal when the process is out of control.

Prof. S. Bagh, Sambalpur University, described a new method for solving the

probabilistic linear programming problem with Cauchy distributed random variables. He

illustrated his findings through numerical example.

The conference was attended by 20 invited Speakers and 130 participants out of which

80 were out stationed from all over the country. In this Conference about hundred papers were

presented in five Plenary and twelve Technical Parallel Sessions in diverse fields of Statistics

including Bayesian Inference, Stochastic Modeling, Survival Analysis, Biostatistics, Neural

Networking, Statistical Quality Control, Sampling Theory and Operations Research. A summary

of talks is given in Souvenir.

A Cultural Programme was organized in University auditorium at 7 p.m. on 15th

Nov.

in which M.Sc. Students participated and presented the culture of Chhattisgarh towards the

participants. Further, an Excursion Tour to NAYA RAIPUR was organized on 16th

November to

illustrate visiting places, the art and sculpture of Chhattisgarh.

On 17th

November, a Session of Quiz Programme on Statistics was also conducted by

Prof. M.L. Lakhera, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Raipur for M.Sc. (Statistics)

Students. At last, the Valedictory Function was held at 2.30 pm.
