DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES – SCHEMES

V. Sheep Rearing Development Programme: The Government of Telangana has initiated a

new flagship programme for the welfare of shepherds (Golla, Kuruma, Yadava families). The

programme is aimed at self-sufficiency of meat production in the state by utilizing the natural

resources and to prevent import of sheep for slaughter from other states like, Karnataka,

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh.

The scheme was to be implemented in two years. i.e., 2017-18 & 2018-19. In this scheme the

shepherds who have crossed the age of 18 years are eligible. All the shepherds will be covered

in these two years.

The beneficiaries were selected in transparent manner by conducting special Grama Sabhas

where lottery system is adopted. Out of 100 eligible farmers, lottery was conducted in Grama

Sabha wherein the list of beneficiaries is prepared basing on seriatum in the lottery.

List A (2017-18) and List B (2018-19) is finalized (50+50) as per lottery.

The Unit Cost is 1,25,000/- in which 20+1 units (20 female and 1 male) will be inducted to each

beneficiary. Out of total unit cost 75% (Rs. 93,750/-) is Government subsidy and 25% (Rs.

31,250/-) is the beneficiary contribution.

The Sheep will be invariably grounded from other States like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu or Odisha

in order to add more sheep to our existing population.

IX. The Mass Poultry Vaccination Programme is being conducted to save the village poultry

against Ranikhet Disease.

X. Cattle Breed Improvement by Artificial Insemination through Veterinary

Institutions:(108) Veterinary Institutions & Gopala Mithra Centers are providing A.I. Services

in the district, ensuring cattle breed improvement and providing door step A.I services to the

farmers.

XI. Supply of Fodder Seed on subsidy basis to encourage individual Fodder Cultivation:

Fodder scarcity is the major constraint in the district, as the agricultural crop residues are

meagre, due to low rainfall and ground water level. Farmers are sensitized to grow individual

green fodder, either annuals or perennials to feed their livestock. The fodder seed is provided to

the farmers on subsidy basis to create a green fodder resource base in the district.

XII. Supply of Power Operated Chaff Cutters on 50% subsidy basis: The agricultural by-

products like jowar are the feeding resources for the livestock. The fodder wastage will be

more, if we feed those fodder varieties without chaffing. The chaffing will minimize the fodder

wastage up to 30%. In order to save available fodder, Chaff cutters are being supplied to the

farmers on 50% subsidy basis.

XIII. Strengthening of Veterinary Institutions under RIDF: The Government is providing

funds under RIDF for strengthening of Veterinary Institutions. Under this programme,

construction of Veterinary Institutions will be taken up by Engineering Department & the

required equipment will be purchased from Animal Husbandry Department.

The impact of the programme is

• Reduced morbidity and mortality in the flock.

• Increased lambing rate and immunity to diseases.

• Reduced pasture land contamination by minimizing the worm load within the host.

• Increased weight gains in each Sheep & Goat by 1.0 to 1.5 Kg and economically they are

benefitted by Rs.450/- to Rs.675/- on each animal as per prevailing market rates.

XIX. NATIONAL ANIMAL DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAMME: FOOT & MOUTH

Africa, the Middle East and Asia, as well as in a limited area of South America. Countries that

are currently free of FMD remain under constant threat of an incursion.

The morbidity rate may approach 100% in susceptible cattle populations. A global strategy for

the control of FMD was endorsed in 2012.

Page 12: VETERINARY & ANIMAL HUSBANDRY DEPARTMENT ...

9

Nagarkurnool is having 3.35 lakh cattle and buffaloes and all these are planned to vaccinate

in two rounds with an interval of 6 months for which the Government of India is incurring for

vaccine and Vaccination and logistics charges.

The FMD vaccination has been started on 1.2.2020 and completed by 30.7.2020. 290196 animals

vaccinated.52676 farmers benefitted in the district.

XX. 1962 – Mobile Veterinary Clinics:

XXV. KISAN CREDIT CARDS (KCC) CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED FOR 1.5 CRORE DAIRY

FARMER (Special drive part of prime minister’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat package for Farmers):

• The Government will provide Kisan Credit Card (KCC) to 1.5 crore dairy farmers

belonging to milk unions and milk producing companies between June to September

2020.

• The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in association with Department of

Financial Services has circulated relevant circulars and KCC application format to all

State Milk Federation and Milk Unions for implementing the same on a mission mode.

• Under the dairy cooperative movement, approximately 1.7 crore farmers are associated

with 230 Milk Unions in the country, in the district 214 societies are functioning with

11000 farmers.

• In the first phase of this campaign, the target is to cover all farmers who are members of

dairy cooperative societies and associated with different Milk Unions and who do not

have KCC.

• Farmers, who already have KCC based on their land ownership, can get their KCC

credit limit enhanced, though interest subvention shall be available only to the extent of

Rs 3 lakhs.

• Although the general limit for KCC credit without collateral remains Rs. 1.6 lakh, but

the case of farmers whose milk is directly procured by Milk Unions falls under tie up

arrangements between the producers and processing units without any intermediaries,

and hence the credit limits without Collateral can be upto Rs.3 lakh.

• This will ensure more credit availability for dairy farmers associated with Milk Unions

as well as assuring repayment of loans to banks.

• The special drive to provide KCC to 1.5 crore dairy farmers is part of the Prime

Minister’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat package for Farmers. On 15 May 2020, it was announced

to cover 2.5 crore new farmers under the KCC scheme.

• This will provide an additional liquidity of Rs.5 lakh crore in the hands of farmers, who

are suffering from the recent downturn of economy.

• As, dairy is among the fastest growing sectors of the economy with a CAGR of above

6% in the last 5 years, providing short term credit to dairy farmers for meeting their

requirements for working capital, marketing etc. will boost their productivity

tremendously.

Achampet, and 6 BMCU’s at Nagarkurnool, Kondareddypally, Veldanda ,Madharam,

Gundoor, Urkondapeta under TSDDCF with 11000 active farmers.

• The TSDDCF has planned to cover the Dairy farmers who are pouring the milk to the

TSDDCF and necessary guidelines will be issued by the TSDDCF.

• Collection of applications are under progress and as date 7226 applications submitted to

the banks for sanction of KCC loans out of which 90 farmers sanctioned KCC loans by
