Uploading Video Into iMovie From A Memory Based Camcorder This tutorial will show you how to properly open an iMovie Project for the first time using a memory card based camcorder. 1) LAUNCH iMOVIE from your dock. If it isn't in your dock, go to FINDER > APPLICATIONS > iMOVIE. 2) First, make sure that the Event Library is located at the top of your screen and that the Project Library is located at the bottom. If it is not, click on the Swap (arrows) located in the left side middle portion of the screen. 3) CONNECTING TO THE COMPUTER - Insert your memory card reader into the computer's USB port (in the back or on keyboard) and click on the camera icon on the left side of the screen. Uploading Video Into iMovie From A Memory Based Camcorder

This tutorial will show you how to properly open an iMovie Project for the first time using amemory card based camcorder.

1) LAUNCH iMOVIE from your dock. If it isn't in your dock, go to FINDER >APPLICATIONS > iMOVIE.

2) First, make sure that the Event Library is located at the top of your screen and thatthe Project Library is located at the bottom. If it is not, click on the Swap (arrows)located in the left side middle portion of the screen.

3) CONNECTING TO THE COMPUTER - Insert your memory card reader into thecomputer's USB port (in the back or on keyboard) and click on the camera icon on theleft side of the screen.

4) PREVIEWING/SELECTING YOUR FOOTAGE - An import window will open updisplaying all the clips available on the memory card. 1) Click down to MANUAL and 2)select UNCHECK ALL. (you have to click twice on the "Check" button). 3) Sortthrough the clips and select all of the ones you want to import into a new event. Youcan preview them by selecting a clip and pressing the playback button. 4)When all ofthe clips you need are selected, Click IMPORT SELECTED.

TIP: You can select a group of clips easily by using the "Click -Shift - Click " method - Click on thecheck box of the first clip you want, hold down the SHIFT key, and click on the check box of the last clipyou want. If it was done correctly , every clip in between the first and last should be checked now aswell.

5) CREATING A NEW EVENT CORRECTLY - Choose Create a New Event & name thefile correctly: R#P# Group Name . Click import. Once all clips have imported click OKand then DONE to close the window. Remember, the Event is only the location of yoursource footage, not where you actually edit and build your movie. That happen in theproject which you will create in the next step.

6) Creating A New Project - Go up to File > New Project

Correctly Naming A New Project : R#P# Group Letter/# Newscast (1, 2, or 3) AspectRatio: Standard 4:3 and choose FPS = 30 Remember, Newscast 1 = PSA, 2 =Interview, 3 = Choice Feature

8) Go to File > Project Properties

9) Changing from "Crop" to "Fit In Frame" Change both the "Initial Photo Placement"& the "Intitial Video Placement " tabs to Fit In Frame. Click OK.

10) Building Your Movie Project - Click on a clip and adjust the yellow handles toselect the event footage that you want to use in your project. You can grab and drag itdown into the timeline or use the keyboard shortcut which is the "E " key.

11) Now you can add text titles, credits, and sound effects from using the tool bar.

12) If you are planning on using Greenscreen effects, picture in picture, etc. you needto make sure that "Show Advanced Tools" is checked and activated. (iMOVIE >PREFERENCES > SHOW ADVANCED TOOLS)
