MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

The museum contained a diverse collection of information on different subjects. It contains information from minerals to bacteria to fungi to birds to plants to other organisms.

Overall, the museum contains both general and in-depth information on different subjects related to the natural history of the earth. The impression we receive from the history was that natural history is too big. We think that there are still so many things to be discovered and to be studied. There are still a lot that needs to be done.

INSTITUTE OF PLANT BREEDING

We learned a lot from this institute, from the current state of our country to the country it could be. We saw how much our condition could be improved and how it is possible to change if only we were all willing.

And, once again, they didn’t fail to remind us that the future of our country depended on the youth, depended on us.

COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

We were greeted with fossils, remains, and specimens of parasitic organisms. We learned that not only do they differ in size but also with their survival techniques.

DAIRY TRAINING AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The batch of students that we belonged to entered the building we saw immediately after leaving the bus. It took us some time to realize that there was nothing inside for us, but eventually we were able find our real location – outside.

Sadly, we did not get to taste their products because there wasn’t any available for purchase at that time.

We learned a lot, though, especially certain words that were added to our vocabulary.

We learned that bull horns are cut so that when they become wild, they won’t be able to hurt each other.

Also, the ring in the nose of each bull its where the rope is tied in order to take control of it.

(DTRI)

Inside the DTRI, we learned that the proper way of milking a cow is by massaging its udders. It is not correct to pull the udders of a cow when milking it.

INTERNATIONAL RICE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The last stop of the trip was the International Rice Research Institute, more commonly known as IRRI. We were presented a video that explains what IRRI does and is. In the video, they said that IRRI aims to improve the quality of life and sustain the environment through research of rice. They also showed the achievements of IRRI like how the yield increased through their research. Then, they toured as around their museum called “Riceworld’.

While we were inside this awesome cinema, a short video was shown to us. The video was of course about the state of rice production in the Philippines and all other facts concerning it.

Here, we learned that even if the Philippines is a good rice-producer, we still need to import rice from other countries because it is more efficient. Also, there are other factors that contribute to the lack of rice in the country such as overpopulation, barren lands, and calamities that destroy the crops.

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)

This is a branch of IRRI where the main researches for crop improvement are conducted.

An actual laboratory within the area of Crop Division Biotechnology.

This laboratory, like all other laboratories contained the different sorts of chemicals needed for experimenting as well as the basic paraphernalia needed to perform such experiment.

An actual example of HydroponicsHydroponics a technique of growing plants (without

soil) in water containing dissolved nutrients. In this example set up, the plants are being grown in a water nutrient solution with their containers being Styrofoam.

Hydroponics as a good alternative in finding ways to grow and even improve plants that can survive its set up.

This site shows a collections of different well preserved parasites that are useful in the study of biotechnology.

information like its habitat, etc.

This museum displays different facts about rice and other topics about it. There were the tools in farming: whether machines or hand tools, the

different pests that destroy crops, the different kinds of rice, and furthermore.

This is an example of a pest that destroys crops. The Dagang-palay eat the crops and therefore these crops aren’t anymore harvested to be cooked as the actual rice.
