About the Contributor

Wright BrothersThe Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur were two Americans credited with inventing and building the world's first successful Aircraft and making the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight, on December 17, 1903.

“Flight is possible to man...[and] I feel that it will soon cost me an increased amount of money, if not my life".

- Wilbur Wright

The idea of flying was already there at the time of the invention of the First Engined Plane by Wright brothers.

There was a problem with these hot air balloons that they could not be directed by the human. Only Air could control it.

Page 5: Unit 7

Gradually , they invented gliders , whose mechanism was better than the hot air balloon.

After Gliders , they tried their hand on Steam Powered Planes.

This designed plane's flight unfortunately led to crashing in the lake.

Fear of Failure !!!

They (Right Brothers) did not have fear of failure.

The Invention of Plane was not a little thing to do at that time.

The Systematic approaches follows by the Wright Brothers to Achieve that Goal.

Page 7: Unit 7

Steps towards the solution The first step towards the successful

invention of Aeroplane, was research through reading various books on it.

The Wright Brothers noticed that birds soared into the wind and that the air flowing over the curved surface of their wings created lift.

Birds change the shape of their wings to turn and maneuver.

Page 8: Unit 7

‘Can-Do’ Attitude

They believed that they could use this technique to obtain roll control by warping, or changing the shape, of a portion of the wing.

Later on , Wilbur and his brother Orville designed a series of gliders which flown in both unmanned (as kites) and piloted flights.

Page 9: Unit 7

However, a number of issues were there in this journey.

The wings did not have enough power to lift, forward elevator was not that effective and its wing warping technology caused it to spin out of control occasionally.

The way they choose was the one who lead them to a huge Success story.

Page 10: Unit 7

How did they overcome the problem Despite of all the problems being

faced by them, Wrights refused to give up. They were fighters in true sense.

Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright had requested a patent application for a "flying machine" nine months before their first successful flight, they were that confident.

Conclusion and points of note The way Wright Brothers Achieved

their Dream The way they approached the

challenges and Found a way out of it. All things lead them as a Leader for

the future Aviation Inventions. The Approach of ‘We Can’ gave

success to them at their Hard time.
