Motherboard

A motherboard looks like this. The mother board is the centre part of the Computer. It holds the Components and connects them together with a series of circuits and chips . This is also helps power each component

Hard drive(HDD)

• Hard drive is a very important Component.• The hard drive stores most of the computers information including the operating system and all of your programs.• Almost all computers have one or more.

Page 3: Unit 3 P1 Cisco Samuel coghlan-white

case

• The computer's case hold all the components• It has a USB Port and disk drive• They sometimes have built in fans

Sound card

• The sound card is the main component for sound also know as the audio card

• The input and output of audio signals to and from a computer under control of the computer programs.

• Most sound cards are integrated into the motherboard with the video card

Disk drive

• A disk drive is a optical drive that reads compact disks like DVDs andCD • The drive uses a laser light to read the

information on the disc

CPU (Central processing unit)

• The Central processing unit carries out the instructions of a computer program, it performs the basic input/output operations of the system.

• The power of a CPU is currently measured In gigahertz (GHz) and are 64-bit it ran faster• Newer CPUs use multi cores, this means There is more then one chip inside the processer

Graphics card

• The graphics card gives a video output to the monitor

• They mostly use PCI,PCIe and AGP slots to fit into the motherboard but most modern graphic cards are integrated into the

motherboard • They use HDMI,DVI and VGA ports to connect to

the visual display device

Heat sink

• The heat sink cools the computer down so it does not over heat

• It removes waste heat made by computer components

• It keeps components within their safe operating temperature

Page 9: Unit 3 P1 Cisco Samuel coghlan-white

Heat extractor

• The heat extractor is for getting rid of waste heat so the CPU will not melt or crash

Page 10: Unit 3 P1 Cisco Samuel coghlan-white

Power supply

• The power supply in the computer provides all of the different voltages your computer needs to operate properly

• It converts AC voltage from the mains into DC voltage

Page 11: Unit 3 P1 Cisco Samuel coghlan-white

RAM (random access memory)

• RAM is for running and loading applications• RAM is also used for advance gaming and

graphics software• It also a temporary storage device for

computer data

firewire

• FireWire is a method of transferring information between digital devices, especially audio and video equipment

• Firewire is 400 MB/s or 800 MB/s • Not many peripherals use firewire, it is mainly

used for cameras and camera recorders

Sata cable

• The sata cable has seven conductors, one keyed connector for the drive, and one keyed connector the drive controller.
