Een van die kriteria was dat die huis nie naby ’n skool of winkel- sentrum moes wees nie. My huis se waarde het onmiddellik geval toe die kleuterskool oopmaak. Kan dit reg wees? Ek is ook nie die enigste een wat kla nie, soos wat algemeen aanvaar word. Daar is baie mense in die ge- meenskap wat kla, maar ek kry alleen die skuld. Daar is ’n heksejag teen my, dis vir seker. a string of break-ins in Table View.Thieves went on a rampage in the Table
View precinct last week with several resi-dents claiming crowbars were used to gainentry to their homes.According to a trusted source there were
nine front-door entries on Wednesday 10February. “Table Viewwas hit hard yester-day. It appeared to be well orchestrated.”Social media also buzzed with residents’
reports of large appliances being stolen.Police spokesperson Warrant Officer

Crowbars usedO’Reilly could not confirm the amount of
cases reported onWednesday but says in allcases reported the front doors or slidingdoors of premises were forced open and insome cases crowbars were used.Later that day at about 22:00 police and
a security companywere involved inahigh-speed car chase which resulted in a policevehicle rammed and officers injured.O’Reilly explains the drama unfolded
when an alarm of a home in FernwoodClose, Parklands, was triggered. “ComplexPatrols and police responded and found
four men in a white Volkswagen Polo. Themen sped away and a chase ensued. On thecorner of Plattekloof andKoeberg roads, thepolice vehicle tried to block the Polo but themen rammed the police vehicle pushing itinto the robot. The two officers had minorinjuries.”Complex Patrols continued to chase the
thieves and this resulted in another crashon the corner of Dingle and Alice roads.
Crash followed by arrests“Complex Patrols were out of action, but
during the chase officerswere communicat-ingwithGoodwoodpolice and these officerschased the suspects further. The suspectsskipped a red robot and collidedwith anoth-er vehicle near Voortrekker Road.”The men left the vehicle and started run-
ning in various directions. Goodwood offi-cers managed to arrest one of the men inRuyterwacht and during a search of the carfound a crowbar and a “big hammer”. Offi-cers also recovered bank cards which be-long to the owner of the Parklands home.Later that evening during a vehicle check
point (VCP) held by Elsies River police, offi-cers foundaman inpossessionof householdgoods reported stolen from the Parklandshome.“He was arrested for being in possession
of suspected stolen goods. Both suspects ar-rested byGoodwood and Elsies River policehave been linked to theTableView case. Ta-bleViewpolicewill investigate to see if theycan be linked to the other break-ins.’’

Parents have been warned that they onlyhave onemonth left to enrol their little onesat school for the 2017 academic school year.Lastweek, provincial educationminister
Debbie Schäfer, said the department oftenencounters problems at the start of eachschool year.“At the start of every year in the Western
Cape, with 2016 being no exception, we findthat many parents enrol their child for thefirst time on the first day of school.“While teaching and learning begin on
the first day of school at most schools due
to forward planning, at some schools teach-ing time is disrupted as district officials andprincipals are instead dealing with late ap-plications for school from parents who ne-glected to enrol their children timeously,”Schäfer said.This year, to try and assist the depart-
ment and schools, the department launchedan early enrolment campaign for 2017.The deadline for these applications is
11 March – three months earlier than 2016.Parents are encouraged to apply in good

Seniors from Bothasig can now look for-ward to expanded services at the BothasigClinic.
The expanded package will include apharmacy service, the management ofchronic diseases, adult curative care andmanagement of minor emergencies.
The clinic has been in the news for manyyears as seniors were unhappy because on-ly primary health care services were pro-vided.
The facility was opened in 2008 and ini-tially, after intervention, had a doctor anda pharmacist. Four years ago the doctor,who saw patients twice week, and the phar-macist were withdrawn.
According to ward councillor Helen Car-stens the general public does not under-stand the principals behind the operationand were not happy.
“Clients then had to go to Dirkie Uys tosee a doctor and to receive their scripts. Anarrangementwas put in place that BothasigClinic could operate as a pick-up point forchronic medication. This meant that tech-nically the client would see the doctor atDirkie Uys twice a year and would be ableto pick up their medication here. This how-ever proved problematic for many of theresidents as transport and their age were achallenge,” says Carstens.After several presentations and many
consultations Carstens this week an-nounced that an agreement has beenreached with the provincial health depart-ment and that anexpandedpackageof servi-ces will be provided at the Bothasig Clinic.
“The officials from provincial health andthe City’s health department will do the de-tailed technical planning to ensure asmooth transition between the current CityHealth service and future Western CapeHealth Department service.
“I must stress that this transitionwill nottake place overnight and I ask that the com-munity remain patient during this processof change with the knowledge that they willbe receiving that which they have request-ed for many years. The health committeewill be consulted and will be invited to par-ticipate in the planning and the commis-sioning of the expanded services at this fa-cility.“It is important to note that the Bothasig
Clinic as it is operating here now is a Cityfacility and falls under my jurisdiction andoversight.“However, when it falls under the West-
ern Cape Health Department, it will fall un-der the province and I will have no jurisdic-tion here at all. I do however trust that thiswill be well received in the greater commu-nity andwill bring relief tomany of our sen-ior and vulnerable residents.
“I will be engaging with the greater com-munity by holding a public meeting,” saysCarstens.

Although the provincial government’splan to upgrade the N1 in the Tyger-berg area might eventually ease con-
gestion, motorists can expect heavy delaysafter phase one was just set into motion.Provincial minister of transport and pub-
lic works, Donald Grant, last week an-nounced the advent of the three-year,R487 million upgrade to the N1 on the sec-tion stretching between Plattekloof in thesouth, to the Old Oak interchange in thenorth.Work on phase one – which includes add-
ing a third lanewhere previously therewereonly two–beganon4Februaryand is expect-ed to be completed by February 2019, saidGrant in a statement.“Work will be carried out over the 9km
stretch of the N1, from Plattekloof Road tojust beyond theOldOak interchange,”Grantsaid.This stretch of the N1 is known to experi-
ence severe levels of congestion at bothmorning and afternoon peak periods, withapproximately 120 000 vehicles carried ev-ery day.“Once the project is completed, traffic is
expected to flow much more easily, on boththe inbound and the outbound lanes.”The scope of the work spans four phases
and includes the additional lanes on the car-riageways of the freeway, new auxiliarylanes, extension of the existing concrete me-dian barrier, intersection improvements atvarious parts and demolition and recon-struction of the Old OakWest bridge and re-pairs to various other bridges along the free-way, he said.“The project will also includeworks to the
existing water pipeline in the middle of thefreeway.“All efforts will be made to ensure mini-
mal disruption to traffic during the con-struction phase of the project. However, mo-
torists must expect reduced lane widths andgeneral speed limits in areas where worksare taking place.”Active construction work will take place
outside peak traffic times, those being be-tween 06:00 and 09:00 towards Cape Town,and between 15:00 and 19:00 outbound.He added the contractor will erect mova-

Die Stad Kaapstad het ingegryp deur kennisgewings vir die hernuwing van motorlisensie-skyfies uit te reik.
Voertuigeienaars sal voortaan hernuwingskennisgewings van die Stad ontvang, en nie soosin die verlede van nasionale agentskappe nie.
Dit sal verligting bring vir die ongerief van die afgelope paar maande wat veroorsaak is deurdie versuim van nasionale regeringsagentskappe om hul verantwoordelikhede na te kom,en wat daartoe gelei het dat die uitreiking van hernuwingskennisgewings opgeskort is.
Die nasionale departement van vervoer kon nie daarin slaag om die oorskakelingvan die elektroniese nasionale verkeersinligtingstelsel (eNaTIS) na diepadverkeersbestuursagentskap (RTMC) af te handel nie. Gevolglik stuur hulle niehernuwingskennisgewings uit nie en is hulle ook nie in staat om meer eNaTIS-dienspunteaan die Stad te voorsien om ons in staat te stel om die diens by ons munisipale kantore uit tebrei nie.
Ander ingrypings deur die Stad sluit die volgende in:• kliënte word, waar moontlik, voor die amptelike oopmaaktyd van ons kantore om08:00 gehelp

visited the Loving Care DoggyParlour and I found Barbara tobe a lovely woman and a greatanimal lover.However, one cannot divulge
from the facts as they stand.My dog has visited the salon
and returned unharmed threeor four times, but about a weekafter his last visit he startedscratching and biting himselfterribly. I did not take immedi-ate action as I thought hisbiting could be due to the shorthaircut.Unfortunately the scratching
and biting continued and hestarted developing terriblescabs accompanied with hairloss and many small, puss-filledyellow pimples mainly on hisstomach area.It cost three visits to Pano-
rama Vet, two cycles of anti-bi-otics and R1400 later to eventu-ally discover that he hadcontracted a bacterial infectioncalled Impetigo.We lastly resorted to an
anti-fungal shampoo which hastreated the problem and theinfection has not returned.Needless to say, we have not
returned to Loving care Doggyparlour since the incident.

ber, was mixed andmastered by The CuttingRoom Studios in New York, America, alongwith four other tracks – for her an indicationthat she’s on the right track.Lesley was just six when she made up her
mind that shewanted to become a performer.
She had seen a video of Michael Jackson per-forming “Billy Jean” and was sold.What followed was a school career filled
with cultural activities – from poetry anddancing to drama and singing – but shecouldn’t get enough and soon joined a musicacademyaswell.Aftermatriculating shewasoff to study sound engineering at Cape AudioCollege to learnmore about studios andwhatshe wanted from the music industry.While studying she used her time to net-
work and learn the ins and outs of the localscene, but soon after graduating she gotcracking on the production of her future EP.Her biggest focus in the beginning was
song writing until she went into studio withfamily friendBenedict deMaar. “I could onlyget into studios at night,” she says, addingthat it was often just the two of themworkingon the tracks.The driving force behind Lesley’s decision
to take onmusic full timewas her father, andher face lights up as she recalls: “My sisterresigned from work and all he said to herwas: ‘Don’t work for someone else; makeyour own business,’ because that’s what hebelieves in.”Lesley describes “Dream” as a combina-

Stellenberg doen dit toe weer! Met dié hoërskool se der-de agtereenvolgende MTBS-oorwinning lyk dit of hynou dié atletiekkompetisie vir die volgende paar jaar
gaan oorheers.Die jaarlikse kompetisie is Vrydag vir die tweede keer
by die Jan Burger-sportkompleks in Parow aangebied. Diegewilde sangbekerkompetisie was weer nie deel van die dagnie. Alle oë was dus op die atlete en hulle het nie teleurgestelnie.
Uiteindelik het vyf MTBS-rekords in die slag gebly.Met die eerste baanitem, die 1 500 m vir meisies o.14, het
Stellies al hul stem dik gemaak en is dié item deur hul Teni-ca Mearns gewen, wat dié skool sommer gou met punte laatvoorloop het.
Skuins ná 18:00, met die laaste afloswedloop afgehandel,was daar net een wenner: Stellenberg met 1 300 punte, ge-volg deur Bellville se 1 039, DFM se 974 en Tygerberg se 794.Stellenberg het altesaam 55 goue, 41 silwer- en 31 bronsme-daljes ingepalm.
Die volgende rekords is verbeter:Francois Joubert (Stel) in die gewigstoot vir seuns o.14
met ’n afstand van 14,13 m; Angelo Davids (Stel) in die ver-spring vir seuns o.17 met ’n afstand van 6,75 m; Crissio Ro-berts (Bell) in die driesprong vir seuns o.19 met ’n afstandvan 14,18 m; Kayla Smit (Bell) in die gewigstoot vir meisieso.15 met ’n afstand van 12,32 m; en Anneke Germishuys(Tyg) in die spiesgooi vir meisies o.19 met ’n afstand van44,51 m.

Western Province proved yet againthat golf is played on grass, not pa-per, as the four bankers and 17-
year-old rookie Ignation Douries sealed ahat-trick of victories in the South AfricanDisabled Golf Association’s Hollard Provin-cial Challenge, hosted by ReichmansCapi-tal, at Zwartkop Country Club on Sunday.
Over 36 holes of rousing shot-making andspirited competition, Western Province ral-lied to triumph on 11.5 points, defeating de-fending champions Rest of Country (ROC)by two points, while Gauteng finished aclose third on nine points.
There were lots of doubting Thomaseswho didn’t believe that Douries would keeppace with deaf player Ryan Lotz and the ex-perienced leg-amputees Morne Cronje, Ri-aan Spreeth and Trevor Reich.
Douries collected two points for WesternProvince in the first round and surprisedwith unexpected determination and grit atthe closing hole in the final round.
Standing on the 18th tee, Douries was onedown to Virgil Foster from Gauteng and allsquare with Nico Wentzel from ROC afterthe former Nedbank SA Disabled Openchampion won the 17th hole.
“It was very, very tight at the end, butDouries handled the pressure like a realpro,” said proud Province skipper PieterVerwey. “We had 10 points in hand, butROC was on 9.5 points and Gauteng had 8.5points. Douries had to halve against Fosterand beat Wentzel to win the ProvincialChallenge for us. It was touch and go, butIgnation was like a little terrier that justwouldn’t let go.
“Experience is always great, but there isa huge case to be made for youthful exuber-ance, because Douries really did himself aswell as Western Province and the SADGAdevelopment initiative – the First SwingProgramme – very proud.”
Douries and Lotz both collected threepoints for Province, Spreeth amassed twopoints and Cronje won the Most ValuablePlayer honour for the champions with 3.5points.
“Reich didn’t contribute any points thisyear, but the team awarded him a gold starfor inspiring everyone else to greatness,”said Verwey.
“Of course that means he pays for all thecelebratory drinks and all the Fanta Dou-ries wants.”
