Guidelines for evaluating the performance of examinees (for correcting teachers)

Dear Evaluating Colleague, During the correction of the written examination papers, please take the following into account: 1. Answers provided in the correction-evaluation guide can only be awarded the points indicated. a) Maximum points can only be awarded for perfect solutions without any errors. b) Certain questions require the examinee to provide examples or characteristics, and the

points awarded are proportionate to the number of such examples or characteristics provided. No additional points may be awarded, even if the examinee has listed more than required.

c) The indicated points can only be broken down further if specifically indicated. Resulting points may only be whole numbers.

d) During correction, all partial points awarded for partial solutions, as well as all errors and mistakes have to be indicated and marked.

e) Solutions corrected by the examinee for certain – e.g. test – questions can only be accepted if the examinee has clearly marked their final answer.

2. The examinee may use a calculator for calculation questions, but must indicate the following for each auxiliary calculation:

- - the name of the data or indicator calculated, - - the method of calculation (the mathematical operation written using the available data), - - the result with the corresponding unit of measurement.

a) The points due for the various auxiliary calculations must also be awarded if the examinee has merged or separated certain steps, or has performed calculations differently. The examinee may perform the auxiliary calculations in a different order than what is shown in the evaluation guide.

Have a successful evaluation!

Balaton and Central Transdanubia showcased at Vienna Tourism Day Source: turizmus.com | 29 September 2016, Thursday 13:55 p.m. Held on Thursday at the Hungarian Embassy, the Vienna Tourism Day showcased the attractions of the Balaton and Central Transdanubian region. This marked the sixth edition of the industry event of the Austrian and Hungarian tourism sectors.

Speaking at the Tourism Day, Balázs Kovács, head of the Austrian representation office of Magyar Turizmus Zrt., said that in recent years, approximately 70 percent of participants reported specific deals concluded as a direct result of the event.

The event saw more than 20 Hungarian tourism associations and hotels and more than 50 Hungarian tourism experts present Hungarian tourism supply; with the Balaton wine region also presented in addition to tourism associations from Siófok, Balatonfüred, Zalakaros and Hévíz.

János Perényi, Hungarian ambassador to Austria, said that Austria is a key partner to Hungary not just politically and culturally, but economically as well. He added that Balaton is a familiar destination for Austrian tourists, but the Eastern Transdanubian region is less visited, even though this is where the Herend porcelain factory and county seat Veszprém are located.

Speaking to MTI, Balázs Kovács added that while 12 percent of foreign guest nights at Balaton are booked by Austrian travellers, only 3 in every hundred guest nights in the Central Transdanubian region are taken by Austrian tourists. He feels that inbound turnover can be further increased as substantial infrastructure developments are also expected at Balaton.

He stated that in the past, 120,000 Austrian guest nights were registered every year in Hévíz. The opportunity embodied by the Austrian market is well reflected by the fact that a 30 percent increase in turnover was observed among Austrian tourists as a result of a campaign promoting Hévíz which was launched in Austria in the spring.

He added that in the past 3 years, spending by Austrians in Hungary increased by 70 percent, 70-80 percent of which was for tourism purposes. In his view, the reason for this is that as service quality increases, more solvent tourists are also visiting the country.

Henrik Hoffmann, president of the Balaton Regional TDM Association, said that Balaton tourism has been revitalised, but the lake has become a typically domestic travel destination. He emphasised that by setting up the Hungarian Tourism Agency, Balaton can now be offered as a ‘product’, which could provide a breakthrough in reaching foreign markets.

Barbara Varga-Dani, head of Magyar Turizmus Zrt.’s Balaton Regional Marketing Office, said that 30 percent of guests at the Balaton region are foreign tourists, with the second highest number of guest nights spent by Austrian visitors. She emphasised that trips to Balaton are not just summer programmes, as guests are equally welcome from autumn to spring.

Picture selected: A – King Saint Stephen.

King Saint Stephen lived at the turn of the 10th-11th century, and was the first king of Hungary. Rule: He ruled from 1000 until 1038. His most important activity was converting pagan Hungarians to Christianity. In the interest of accomplishing this goal, he established bishoprics and ordered 1 temple to be built for every ten villages. He strengthened the country's relationships with Western Christian states. Under his rule, the following Royal centres were established: Esztergom, where the royal castle and the bishop's see are located; Székesfehérvár, which came to be the crowning town and burying-place of Hungarian kings; and Veszprém, where Hungarian queens were crowned. His memory is upheld by numerous public spaces (streets, squares) and settlements (e.g. Mátraszentistván). His most well-known relics and commemorations: The Holy Right Hand at the St. Stephen Basilica in Budapest; St. Stephen’s sarcophagus in Székesfehérvár; and nationwide celebrations on 20 August, celebrating St. Stephen’s Day and the foundation of the state. His likeness is featured on the 10,000 forint bank note.

Picture selected: B – Matthias I King Matthias I, also known as Matthias Corvinus, was King of Hungary in the 15th century, from 1458-1490. During his rule, he was a patron of the arts, and had the second largest library in Europe. His second wife was Italian, and as a result Italian craftsmen came to the country and left behind beautiful renaissance-style buildings, such as the rebuilding of the Royal Castle of Buda, the Matthias Church, the rebuilding of the Royal Palace of Visegrád. It was during this period that Hungarian gastronomy started using and consuming ingredients and foods such as saffron, yellow onions, turkey, pasta, chestnuts and cheeses. His legacy lived on in Hungarian folklore (stories and tales), which depicted him as a just king, who visited his people in disguise and who protected his people against oppressions and despotism. His figure is seen in numerous public statues, and several public spaces, buildings and institutions bear his name, such as Mátyásföld, the Matthias Church in Buda, or the King Matthias Museum in Visegrád. His likeness is featured on the 1,000 forint bank note.

The question should be evaluated using the scoring guide specified. Partial points may be broken down further, but cannot exceed maximum score in total. Partial points should also be awarded for answers different from the above, but which are nonetheless correct. If the examinee has solved both (A and B) questions, the first question solved must be evaluated.

15. Read the following text related to marketing. 13 points

Based on the text below, and using the information contained in the text, prepare the SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis of the accommodation (as well as its surrounding region) specified in the question. Use the table below the text to solve the questions.

Família Boarding House, 3-stars, 30 km from Budapest, in Gödöllő

Location: Thanks to the Grassalkovich Palace, Gödöllő is one of Hungary’s most popular hiking/excursion destinations. The approximately 50,000 foreign visitors per year and numerous articles published in international publications will surely make Gödöllő well-known beyond Hungarian borders as well. The Palace is featured in the catalogues of an increasing number of domestic and foreign tour operators, and there is continuous media interest in Gödöllő. Gödöllő can be accessed through the M3 motorway, which is a toll road. Future road construction plans (the continuation of the M3 motorway, the construction of the M0 motorway) are uncertain. Noise levels are high due to the proximity of the motorway. The establishment of public utilities has not been completed as yet. Capacity: 20 rooms, 44 bed-places (the boarding house has 15 double rooms, 2 single rooms and 3 rooms with 4 beds). Services: Restaurant with a capacity of 100 people, which also functions as a breakfast hall. The restaurant is open from 11-24, and also serves walk-in customers. The facility also undertakes the organisation of family and business events. Gödöllő typically has youth accommodations, 2 and 3-star hotels and boarding houses. The hotels are usually of lower capacity (typically 36-38 people). These have separate halls suitable for conference tourism, smaller and larger lecture halls suitable to conduct meetings, as well as own parking and restaurants with greater capacity. The statistics below confirm that hotel capacity in Gödöllő and the surrounding region is still insufficient:

1. Total guest turnover of accommodations in Gödöllő, 2010 Number of guests: 9292. Number of guest nights: 22050

2. Capacity of accommodations in Gödöllő, 2010 Number of units: 6. Number of bed-places: 816

3. Foreign guest turnover of accommodations in Gödöllő, 2010 Number of guests: 2572. Number of guest nights: 7971

It is clear that the number of guest nights is very high, and the reasons listed in the description of the region also support that this is an ideal location for the boarding house, where the benefits of the proximity of the capital can be exploited. Optimal destination for hiking/excursion tourism. Gödöllő is a dynamically and swiftly developing town near the capital city. The town's programme features the objective of becoming "the Hungarian Salzburg”, and consequently Gödöllő is also quite strong in terms of culture. Mass and road transportation connections are favourable. The real estate market is relatively organised. Natural features (parks, forests, lake) are also favourable. Infrastructure is highly developed.

a) Indicate the names of the various SWOT analysis areas. b) Based on the information in the text, write 7 items into the ‘strengths’ and

‘weaknesses’ areas. c) Draw conclusions, and write one into the ‘opportunities’ and ‘threats’ areas each.

SWOT analysis Strengths: Thanks to the Palace, Gödöllő is one of Hungary’s most popular hiking/excursion destinations. There is continuous media interest in Gödöllő. Gödöllő is a dynamically and swiftly developing town near the capital city. The town's programme features the objective of becoming "the Hungarian Salzburg”, and consequently Gödöllő is also quite strong in terms of culture. Mass and road transportation connections are favourable. The real estate market is relatively organised, and there are development plans in place. Natural features (parks, forests, lake) are also favourable. Infrastructure is highly developed.

Weaknesses: The Gödöllő−Budapest section of the M3 motorway is a toll road. (1 point) Future road construction plans (the continuation of the M3 motorway, the construction of the M0 motorway) are uncertain. (1 point) Noise levels are high due to the proximity of the motorway. (1 point) The establishment of public utilities has not been completed as yet. (1 point)

Opportunities: High profits in the long-term. The boarding house could become a dominant accommodation in the given area, and its services could also prove to be attractive for locals (restaurant).

Threats: The area is not sufficiently known. Other boarding houses in Gödöllő and Budapest may represent competition, and the proximity of the capital city may reduce demand for quality accommodations.

Evaluation:

a) The correct names of the SWOT areas and the placement of items are worth 0.5 points each. A maximum of 2 points may be awarded.

b) The correct placement of 7 items into the ‘strengths’ and ‘weaknesses’ areas based on the information in the text: 1 point each, for a maximum of 7 points.

c) The group is planning to have dinner during the Álompuszta programme at the

Hami Restaurant located near the accommodation (Álomváros, Kolostor u 2.), and the restaurant has sent over the following menu proposal. 5 points

Your task: Review the offer and provide an opinion. Name at least 5 items in the proposal that you find objectionable. Take the aspects of menu compilation into consideration. You do not have to prepare a new menu that is professionally sound and appropriate. Menu proposal of Hami Restaurant: Cold starter: Spicy aubergine-paste with toast Soup: Rich chicken goulash, served in a cauldron Warm-starter: Hortobágy meat-filled pancake Main course: Red-wine pullet with dumplings and red cabbage Dessert: Somlói sponge cake with vanilla ice cream Objections:

- Cold and warm starters can only feature simultaneously in special menus, but not in a tourist menu.

- Repeating ingredients: chicken, pullet. - Method of preparation and colour are very similar: goulash soup, Hortobágy

meat-filled pancake. - Ingredient and colour of pancakes and dumplings are very similar: flour, water. - Red wine and red cabbage are not appropriate pairings for pullet breast. - The menu fills guests up, as the dishes are very heavy. - The menu contains no beverages (not even water), even though students are not

expected to have extra funds to cover such extra expenses. Evaluation guide: each correct observation is worth 1 point each, for a maximum of 5 points. Solutions different from the above may also be accepted, e.g. referring to ingredients, colour, the harmony of preparation methods, calorie content, age-related unique features, seasonality, consumption habits, etc.
