INDOOR TRACK & FIELDThe Pitt State men’s team took a good squad into the MIAA

Championships and came up just short of a title to end up in the runner-up spot. The women’s team was looking for a competitive effort to move out of the middle of the pack in the MIAA and earned a 5th place showing — giving them much needed momentum into the outdoor season. At the NCAA’s in Birmingham, AL the Gorillas qualified 5 athletes overall between the squads and all came up just short of All-American honors to conclude the indoor season.

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELDThe 2013 MIAA Outdoor Championships held at Fort Hays

State University was about as exciting of a meet as one could expect as the Gorillas repeated at MIAA Champions for the 2013 Outdoor meet. This was the first time since the 1996 and 1997 men’s squads defended their title. On the other hand the women’s squad had a great showing getting the mental victory with their MIAA runner-up position at the Outdoor Championships. The only team to beat them was perennial national championship contender Lincoln University. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Colorado State University - Pueblo, the Gorilla teams were well represented by 13 athletes, 9 men and 4 ladies. The men came home with a strong 7th place spot in the nation scoring 30 points, with big help from National Champion John Talbert in the discus, and Marquise Cushon’s runner-up performance in the triple jump. The ladies finished with 17 points to place 17th overall. That is the programs 12th NCAA national top 20 finish in program history. They were led by senior Larissa Richards national runner-up finish in the discus throw.
