Overview
COVID-19 has taken a troll not on just physical health but also our mental health. While, physical health
of the citizens has been the top priority, keeping mental health in mind is also equally important especially
when the pandemic is still going on in 2021. It’s been a long time inside homes and with almost null
human interactions. It definitely affects one’s mental health. People are more frustrated and depressed
than ever.
If you’re going through something of that sort, we got you some ways on how you can keep yourself sane
in this pandemic.
reduce some stress. It balances hormones,
improves immunity and keeps your brain healthy
and safe from harmful and stressful thoughts. You
need not go to the gym or the yoga class for the
same. There is a huge number of videos and
tutorials available online to teach you how to do it
just right.
rates. There is so much negativity online and when
you are on it most of the time, it begins to mess
with your head. There is so much fake news that
spreads fear and hatred and that is the last thing
we need while we are stuck at home. However, we
realise how impossible it is to give up on screens
completely. So, it is up to us on how we choose
our feed of social media and how much time we
decide to give it.
Remember when you were a kid and you used to
do origami? Yes sir/mam, this is the right time to
polish those forgotten skills and hobbies. Or
developing new skills and hobbies. The most we
have now is time and what better way is there to
utilise this time than to increase your skills set?
When your brain learns something, it releases
happy hormones like serotonin and dopamine.
Basically, you feel good.
your senses. Like walking barefoot, swimming, sitting
on the grass etc. It helps bring you in present and
reduces your stress. It makes you focus on reality
and brings you back from your imagination world
which has stress and anxiety and every negative
emotion possible. It is really important to get out of
the world that is inside your head.
Spend Some Time With Animals
Animals are the most underrated stressbusters.
They live in the present without worrying about
the future. They don't know about the problems
going on in the world. So, they will just share their
happiness with you. Spending time with animals can
reduce your anxiety and stress and have a happy
effect on your brain. So, it is time to play with your
furry friends!
suppress your emotions
way you can steer clear of it.
The more you disregard it or try to avoid it, the
more troubled and tense your mind will be.
Rather than brushing off your fears and
insecurities, acknowledge your negative emotions
and find a solution to it. Speak to your loved ones
or someone who you have utmost trust in and
try to overcome the situation.
Keep yourself busy and check on your
friends and family
While some have started to feel the pressure of
working from home, others have lost track of their
daily activities and continue to bear the pangs of
aimlessness. That said, it is extremely important for
people to keep themselves occupied. As the saying
goes, "an empty mind is a devil's workshop", is true
in all its essence especially in the current times. Also,
check on your loved ones from time to time, since
COVID-19 has affected everyone equally.
Organize and plan your day
efficiently
If you want to feel good, productive and want to
stay sane during this pandemic, planning and
organizing your day ahead is crucial.
Being organized gives you a purpose. You realise
what you need to do and the goals you have to
achieve, which in turn keeps you and your mind
occupied and busy. Doing so helps your mind
function efficiently and keeps it at peace while
you're on a break.
Invest in your health
One thing coronavirus has taught all of us is to take
care of our health. Given that people with pre-
existing comorbidities are more prone to severe
illnesses, our physical health deserves all the
support it could get. Providing your physical self
with all the needed care will automatically reduce
the level of stress in you, especially during this
COVID crisis. Focus on maintaining a balance
between the two so as to keep sane and healthy.
Refrain from unhealthy lifestyle habits
While there are a lot of things that you should do, some
habits must be avoided.
times should be avoided at all costs. Considering the
already existing stress and anxiety, unhealthy lifestyle
habits can add to your woes. You may think it is
comforting and helps you get through your miseries. But
in reality, all it does is confuse you and make you more
vulnerable.
organic food. Whatever happens, we all need to
eat. When the countries we import our food from
get the virus, food supply chains may run into
trouble. There’s no need to dig up your lawn –
search “lasagna gardening” on YouTube and create
a vegetable bed on top of your lawn. If you have a
spare gardening book, put it in your Tiny Library. If
you have spare seeds, share them. If you know
how to grow bedding plants, do so, so that others
can grow food.
You may have people on your street or in your
apartment building who have to fully self-isolate
because they have been in contact with someone
who has the virus, or because they actually have
the virus. A compassionate smart bunny in England
has created these Viral Kindness postcards that
you can print and distribute to your neighbours,
offering to help.
Nature is open 24/7. Look at Google map and seek
your local parks. Search on-line for local hikes and
walks. Invite a friend to come with you, just be
sensible about distance. Leave your cellphone in
your pocket, take out your earbuds, and enjoy
nature’s beauty. Smile at the people you meet. If you
feel like it, carry a garbage bag, wear gloves and pick
up litter.
measures to provide regular payments, prevent
evictions, delay mortgage payments, delay student
debt payments, give businesses access to zero-
interest credit, and so on. Full credit to the
governments that are being pro-active on this one.
If only they could also be proactive on the climate
and ecological emergencies.

watch
Farm on Netflix. At Netflix Party (Chrome) you
can watch a movie with friends, with
synchronized playback and group chat.
Visit a local park
you. Invite a friend to join you as you explore.
Greet the people you meet with a smile. See if you
can learn the names of the trees, then the
wildflowers, then the birds.
Write your will
If you are getting up there in age, use the time to
write your will, and start simplifying your
belongings. Here’s support for Canada, the
United States, and Britain. We’re all going to die
one day, and the more we prepare, the less mess
we will leave for our friend and relatives to sort
out.
It just takes 21 days to adopt a new habit.
Lockdown is the ideal time to change your habits
whether it is smoking or getting up late, or being
addicted to social media, having regular junk food
or no exercise. We can easily change our habits
during this time by indulging ourselves in some
other activities or by learning a new skill or talking
with your friends and relatives.
The habits you inculcate now in yourself will surely
shape you in your future and make you more
disciplined and dedicated in your life. Good habits
developed now will last a lifetime.
Practise your Hobby
help socialize, and help in personal development.
The best way to cultivate a new hobby is to try
something new. The world is full of wonderful,
exciting activities that we can explore and adopt as
our own.
During this phase of our lives, it gives us the
perfect time to enjoy hobbies of our choice and
help minimize the impact of chronic stress. There is
an old saying, “An empty mind is a devil’s mind.” If
you are losing your leisure, look out! -- It may be
that you are losing your soul.
Relax
changing the state of your mind. Relaxation comes
in many forms from taking a short nap, binge-
watching Netflix, listening to music, or playing
some board games. A short power nap is
equivalent to a sound sleep. It helps to heal your
muscles and mind, thus enlightening your mood.
Asking for help
It’s okay to not be okay. Do you find yourself
questioning who you can reach out to? Do you
worry you are being a burden when you do? Or
do you tend to isolate and not reach out at all?
Being on your own without anyone around to talk
to is definitely a challenge. But know that others
are struggling as well and there is help available to
you.
