2. The Basque Country is in Europe, Spain. 3. It is a an autonomous community of Northern Spain. 4. It includes the Basque provinces of lava, Biscay and Guipuzkoa. 5. We live in Bilbao the capital of Biscay. 6. THE REGIONS OF BISCAY We live in the region of Gran Bilbao. 7. RIVERS 8. RIVERS OF BISCAY The most important rivers of Biscay are: Ibaizabal Nervin 9. IBAIZABAL Length: 43 KM The Ibaizabal river is born in Anboto and Udalaitz mountains. It flows into the Cantabric sea. 10. NERVIN The Nervion river is born in the Delika Canyon. It flows into the Cantabric sea. LENGTH:72 KM 11. BILBAO RIVER The Bilbao river is composed of Ibaizabal and Nervin. Different bridges pass the river, for example the Zubizuri. 12. CANTABRIC SEA 13. The Bay of Biscay is a gulf of the northeast located in the Cantabric sea. The average depth is 1,744 metres and the greatest depth is 4,735 metres. 14. BEACHES AROUND BILBAO 15. BISCAY BEACHES -Gorliz -Laida -Baquio -Plentzia -Ereaga 16. GORLIZ Gorliz is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay of the Basque Country, in northern Spain. 17. LAIDA Laida beach is located in the town of Ibarranguelua Biscay, Basque Country (Spain). 18. BAQUIO The Baquio beach is located in the town of Baquio, Biscay, Basque Country (Spain), its a sandy beach. It is the longest beach of Biscay. 19. PLENTZIA The Plentzia beach is located in the town of Plencia, Biscay.Its a beach with golden sand situated in the mouth of the Butrn river. 20. EREAGA The Ereaga beach its situated in the township of Getxo, Biscay. Its a beach with golden and dark sand. 21. MOUNTAINS 22. GORBEA Gorbea or Gorbeia is a mountain. The highest in Biscay and Alava with a height of 1,481 m. 23. TXINDOKI Txindoki is a mountain (1,346 m) located in the region of Gipuzkoa. 24. AIZKORRI It is the highest one of the Basque Autonomous Community with 1,551 m. 25. PAGASARRI Pagasarri is one of the two small mountains that circles the city of Bilbao. 26. GANEKOGORTA Ganekogorta is a mountain in the border of the province of Bilbao, just between Bilbao and Llodio. 27. ARTXANDA Artxanda Mountain is one of the two small mountains that delimits the municipality of Bilbao. Our school is also in Artxanda This is the view of Bilbao from our school. 28. CLIMATE 29. CLIMATE In the northern valleys, oceanic climate is predominant. It is wet weather all year and moderate temperatures. 30. Nora Menchaca, Adriana Gonzalez, Maria Aldamiz-Echevarria, Rakel Sanchez, Lucas De Rojo and Vasily Mugica. 31. PRESENT 32. Bilbaointhe past had veryfewtourism because itwas a very dirty city ,but now Bilbaois a very clean city and has a lot of tourits. 33. INDUSTRY 34. ALTOS HORNOS It was an ironworks business that began in 1902 in Bilbao. After the Spanish Civil war, the industry of the Basque Country was left basically intact. This proved to be an attractive feature that drew many people during Spanish Rural exodus. 35. ASTILLEROS DE OLABEAGA It was a mining and shipping industry.It was incorporated on March 27, 1900 at the hands of the major shippers of Biscay. 36. ARTIACH Was a fabric of cookies founded in 1907 in Bilbao. This building was the first fabric of cookies that began in Spain. Because of the floods in 1983 the family left the business and it became a Nabisco company property. 37. CHIMBO Was a soap frabic.Lots of people buy soap from Chimbo because it was economic and very eficacial. 38. COMMERCE 39. In Bilbaothere are lots of shopping centres. like: - ElCorte Ingles - Zubiarte - Bidarte 40. EL CORTE INGLES 41. ZUBIARTE It is a very common shopping centretoo. There are shops, restaurants and a cinema. 42. BIDARTE It has been renovateda few months ago. The aretwo floors with: shops and a super market. 43. -Maria Aldamiz-Echevaria -Lucas De Rojo -Vasily Mugica -Nora Menchaca -Rakel Snchez -Adriana Gonzalez 44. FOOD 45. STARTERS 46. MARMITAKO Marmitako is a fish stew. It is a dish with potatoes, onions, peppers, and tomatoes. 47. MAIN COURSE 48. SPANISH OMELETTE The Tortilla Patata is a typical Spanish dish. It consists of a thick egg omelette made with potatoes fried in olive oil. 49. BACALAO AL PIL-PIL This is a type of cod with a special sauce, that is made with cods juice and olive oil. 50. KOKOTXAS DE BACALAO 51. CHIPIRONES EN SU TINTA Chipirones are small squids. The best time to get them is in July, August and September. The ink is a sauce that is in the European squid, and they put it as a sauce. 52. TXANGURRO A LA DONOSTIARRA WITH CHILE Txangurro is crab in basque. It is made with these ingredients: Onion Tomato Brandy Leek 53. TALO Talo is a typical food of the Basque Country, it is made of corn flour and water. It is cooked in a metal plank. 54. DESSERT 55. CUAJADA Cuajada: It is made of milk. It is made from sheep milk or of cows milk. It is very popular in the Basque Country. 56. BASQUE CAKE 57. GOXUA Goxua is a typical dessert from the Basque Country. These are the ingredients: Cream Sponge cake Cream of custard Liquid caramel 58. FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS 59. MARIJAIA Marijaia is a symbol of Bilbao Semana Grande. It was designed by the painter Mari Puri Herrero. 60. Marijaia means "Lady of the Party. As a sign of optimism and dance, it has her arms up. When the festival finishes they burn the Mari Jaia and they throw it to the river 61. SANTO TOMAS The day of St. Thomas is one of the important festivals. This festival is celebrated the 21th of December. We dress of arrantxale and we eat talo. Theyare preparing talo. 62. ARRANTXALE Is the basque typical suit. We dress like this: Girls wear a very long skirt and a white shirt with a white kerchief in the head and in the neck. Boys wear blue jeans and a black coat. In the head they wear a black cap called txapela and a squared kerchief. 63. BASQUE DAY We celebrate Basque day on the 3rd of December. Thatday we play traditionalgames speaking Basque. Athletic Club, also commonly known as Athletic Bilbao, is a professional football club, based in Bilbao. They are known as Los Leones (The Lions) because their stadium was built near a church called San Mams (Saint Mammes). 79. TOURISM The Guggenheim Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art, designed by the Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry. The building of the museum is located near the Doa Casilda Iturrizar park. 90. THE TOWN COUNCIL This place governs the city of Bilbao. 91. This is an important building of the Basque Country; The Hanging Bridge. It is a transporter bridge that is near Bilbao, and crosses the Nervin river. 92. EUSKALDUNA PALACE The Euskalduna Conference Centre and Concert Hall, it is beside the estuary of Bilbao, built in part of the area that was formerly occupied by the Euskalduna. 93.
