They Say, “What Happens in Vegas…”Well, you know the rest.

But I believe you’ll find so many terrific new ideas, innovations and tips on implementing Design-Build Done Right® while you’re with us in Las Vegas for the 2019 Design-Build Conference & Expo, that what happens here won’t stay here. You’ll be excited to put those lessons learned to work on your own projects back home.

We have a jam-packed schedule this year including the hottest design-build topics, trends and innovations. In fact, we’ve had to extend the program to squeeze it all in! So, you should plan to begin your time with us on Tuesday, November 5, for a full day of pre-conference workshops and a personal stadium tour of the impressive work underway at the Las Vegas Raiders Stadium.

We hope to see you then!

Lisa Washington, CAEDBIA Executive Director/CEO

New This YearTUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5Design-Build Done Right® 8:00am-4:00pm

This year, DBIA will offer two different pre-conference workshops for Owners and practitioners to choose from. Regardless of the design-build procurement approach, design-build has been proven to save time, be more cost-effective, enhance problem-solving and foster innovation. The hallmarks of design-build – collaboration and single point of responsibility – apply in all approaches from a traditional best value approach to a progressive approach. These sessions allow you to take a deeper dive into each of these approaches. Choose between:

Best-Value Design-Build Done Right® Instructors: Craig Unger, FDBIA and Bill Godwin, DBIA, LEED AP

Progressive Design-Build Done Right™ Instructors: Geoff Neumayr, SE, P.E. and Robynne Thaxton, JD, FDBIA

Educator Workshop 8:00am – 4:00pm

DBIA’s Educator Workshop program provides design-build curriculum for professors and instructors to teach the principles of Design-Build Done Right®. We’ve now expanded the program to provide even more design-build content for our educators. Pre-approval and other conditions apply. Contact [email protected] to find out more.

No fee required. Pre-approval required.

Las Vegas Stadium Tour 2:00pm–4:00pm

Tour the future home of the Las Vegas Raiders and see first-hand how design-build is being used to construct this massive landmark. The Las Vegas Stadium will provide a world-class home for the NFL Raiders upon the team’s relocation in 2020. The Mortenson | McCarthy joint venture team is building the $1.9 billion domed stadium featuring 65,000 seats (expandable to 72,000), a retractable natural turf field, large operable walls that open to spectacular views of the neighboring Las Vegas Strip and a variety of premium spaces throughout all levels. In addition to the stadium, the site will accommodate tailgating amenities, parking and a mixed-use commercial development.

Limited number of seats available!

= requires additional fees to attend

The Imperative and Opportunity to Invest in Resilient InfrastructureStephen E. Flynn, Ph.D.Founding Director, Global Resilience Institute & Professor of Political Science at Northeastern University

The World Bank estimates economic losses due to natural disasters could reach $500 billion annually. The need for resilient infrastructure is critical and yet there are major barriers to advancing the widespread adoption of resilient design and engineering best practices. Dr. Flynn will present options for overcoming those barriers, talk about the billions of dollars now starting to flow into thousands of newly created Opportunity Zones throughout the nation and the role design-build teams can play in improving our infrastructure resiliency.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8

GENERAL SESSION

Everything (and Nothing) Has ChangedBarbara J. Jackson, Ph.D., FDBIADirector, Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management, University of Denver

Dr. Jackson is one of America’s design-build pioneers, an author, educator and widely recognized expert on making the mental shift. Design-Build Done Right® requires far more than just winning a design-build competition or signing a design-build contract — it takes a whole new mindset. Dr. Jackson will address the challenges in shifting from a segregated services mentality and the skills necessary to be a successful design-build team member, and what it takes to manage and lead multi-disciplined teams to achieve optimized results under the Design-Build Done Right® approach.

CLOSING KEYNOTE

The Right Kind of Crazy — A True Story of Teamwork and High Stakes InnovationAdam SteltznerTeam Leader & Chief Engineer EDL, NASA Mars Rover Curiosity & Author

Design-build is the nation’s fastest growing and most popular delivery method with design-builders delivering nearly half of our nation’s projects. As the only event in the nation focused exclusively on the rapidly growing design-build industry, this event provides you a unique opportunity. Don’t miss the chance to:

— Network with Owners: Last year Owners represented over 10% of the attendance at the 2018 Design-Build Conference & Expo in New Orleans.

— Build your Team: Network with all members of the project team including general contractors, architects, engineers, MEPs, attorneys and finance professionals.

— Meet Decision Makers: Our attendees are mid to upper level management including CEOs, COOs and Vice Presidents. Network with those who have the power to make instant decisions.

— Maximize your Time: All show hours are non-compete hours so that exhibitors can also attend sessions.
