in Jesus being the light

of the world.

The darkness will never,

ever put out the light. It

can’t. It can be the ab-

sence of light but it can

do nothing when a light

comes on. All the dark-

ness of this winter season

can not stop our Christ-

mas lights from shining.

All the darkness of 2020

can not stop Jesus Christ

and his church from shin-

ing his light into the dark

recesses of our world.

Every nook and cranny

of our world will see the

light and will rejoice!

Yesterday I decided it

was too windy to get up

on the ladder and hang

the Christmas lights on

the outside of our par-

sonage. Yes, at my ripe

old age I may be devel-

oping some smarts.

Well, we can hope.

Why do we hang lights

on the outside of our

houses? Because our

neighbors do? Because

our family did growing

up? Because we want to

see what they look like

from across the street?

“The light shines in the

darkness and the dark-

ness will never overcome

it.” John 1

This is the darkest time

of year in our part of

the world. So I believe

we want light in our

darkness. We love to

drive around and look at

all the Christmas lights.

We want to be remind-

ed that in this season

there is some sparkle

and light. We like to

share our Christmas spirit

with those in our neigh-

borhood.

Jesus came into our

world and he was the

light of the world. He

still is the light of the

world.

So when I hang our lights

on the outside of our

parsonage I believe I am

participating in Jesus

being the light of the

world.

I also believe that when I

give to our church, when

I give a helping hand to

someone, when I tell

someone about Jesus,

and when I live my life

as close as I can to the

Nativity Show Case and Live Nativity

Chippewa United Methodist Church will hold its annual Nativity Showcase combined with a live Nativity

this December as a gift to the community this holiday season.

The Live Nativity will be held December 12 from 5 -8pm & December 13 from 3 -6pm on the front

lawn of the church. The Nativity Showcase will be held December 13 from 3-6pm inside of the main

church building.

Come see nativity sets from around the world and take pause at the live Nativity to reflect on the birth of

Jesus Christ.

If you would like to help with the live Nativity or the Nativity Showcase, have a Nativity set to display or need more info, please contact Susan Winters at the church or Darcy Straley at 724-846-6310. We are also asking you to save your plastic gallon milk jugs. Bring to the church before December 8 th .

This will be the 17th year our church has hosted this community event and although it will be a bit different, we welcome everyone to come and enjoy. The best news I want to share with you today is that Christ-mas is coming, and nothing is going to stop the celebration

of our Lord and Savior’s birth.

No need for me to go into details of the last nine months. We have all experienced it on many different levels. And as any expectant mother can contest, there is great antici-pation in what is to come. We too must be ready for that

miraculous delivery.

So, how does one prepare for this Coming? It is called Ad-

vent. Instead of rushing into the home stretch this is the time to slow down. We look with Hope to the future, with the confidence that God is in complete control and there is nothing to fear. We pray for Peace. A peace to share with each other, a peace that sur-passes all understanding. We fill our minds with Joy. The eager joy of childhood ex-pectation, the joy that only this tiny baby can bring to a broken world. And we Love. We love this child who brings light into the darkness. We

share that love with one an-

other.

Oh, the expectation of what is to come. Yes, come all ye faithful. Come to the crib. Come and find what you have been searching. Kneel in humble adoration for this is

thou long expected Savior.

December is upon us! The youth ministry is up and run-ning right now and we are excited about what is ahead. I want to share about some dates and our plan to handle them as things change this holiday season. We will follow Blackhawk School district’s cancellations/virtual schedule to the best of our ability. So to reflect that, here are some dates that will somewhat follow that sched-ule. On November 29th, we will not have youth group. Throughout December this year, we have three planned youth group nights on Decem-ber 6th, 13th, and the 20th. December 27th and January 3rd will be scheduled off, so no youth group those dates. On the Monday evenings that follow a planned youth group night, at 7:00pm, we will meet virtually on Zoom. If you would like Zoom information, please reach out to me direct-ly at kjenkins@ chippe-waumc.org for the infor-mation. On December 20th, we will have our youth Christmas Par-ty! We will do a gift ex-change, sing some Christmas

songs, and have light refresh-ments. Bring a gift! It can be something from around your house, a gift from last year that you want to re-gift, a funny item, or anything else. If you plan to purchase a gift, please spend no more than $5. In January, we will be launch-ing a new name for our youth ministry. As a part of this campaign, we want to send out Care Packages to our youth to let them know that we, the church, are here for them. I have some ideas for this, but if you would like to be involved in the planning/packing of these packages, reach out. If you would like to contribute, we are accepting sponsorships for these. If you would like to sponsor a box, we are asking for a $20 do-nation per box to help cover the cost. Also, if you know a young person who you would like to make sure gets a Care Package, please let me know. We want everyone to get one that will want one, and more! As the final chapter of 2020 is being written, I want to encourage you to take a mo-

ment and reflect. Don’t think about the liberals or con-servatives, forget about COVID for a moment, school closings, and any other event/person that we focus our frustration or angst. Re-flect on what God has done and what God is doing. Be-cause the things of our world can be a challenge for us to deal with, and honestly, 2020 has been stressful. But in this Christmas season, we must remember Christ because all of the “stuff” that has gone on; that is why Jesus came to this earth. He came to give us perspective on our past, peace for today, and hope for tomorrow. Jesus heals, he cares, he loves. I want to chal-lenge you, everyday this De-cember: when you feel angry about something, or feel like complaining about it, remem-ber Christ. Share His loving-kindness with someone. Any-one. Give the gift of sharing Christ this December. The love of Jesus Christ is what the world needs; it is what the world has always needed. Blessings to you and your families, Kevin Jenkins

Youth Ministry News

House Build Update

Marie was born in the Congo. Due to the conflict she fled from her homeland to Ugan-da. There she lived in a refu-gee camp for seven years. In the refugee camp, she worked serving food and taking care of her family. On November 28, 2018 Marie and her two daughters, Alaine (8) and Ronette (5), relocated to Cleveland. “I was very happy coming to the US.” However, she did

find snow quite surprising.

Marie is currently working with a lawyer to bring her husband, Richard and 11-year- old son, Emmanuel, to the United States. They are still in the refugee camp in Uganda. Through all of this, Marie is continuing to work, take care of her daughters, and pursue a more afforda-ble, healthy home for her girls, and her husband and

son.

in the House we Built:

In October we built a house in our parking lot, prayed on it, loaded it on a truck to send it to Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. We now know the identity of the family that will help Habitat in complet-ing the house and move in when it is finished. Marie is a tenacious mom trying to make a better life for her family.

Can you believe it’s already December?

And look at all that you have accom-

plished! Would you have guessed at the

beginning of the year you would have

read through the entire Bible? Well you

have! And not only that but you have

intentionally grown in your relationship

with God. That is the best part of all.

Every day you decided to open your

Bible, even if you haven’t read through

the whole Bible, and read God’s word

you were building that relationship. You

have been delighting the heart of God

as you have spent time with him. So now

what? One of the best parts of having

these bookmarks is that you can use

them again.

If the bookmarks aren’t really for you

then may I encourage you to find some-

thing else that gets you into a daily rou-

tine of spending time with God and in

God’s word. Perhaps you’ve never

picked up a copy of the Upper Room.

The Upper Room gives you a daily scrip-

ture reading, a little devotion, a thought

for the day, and a prayer focus. And

then there’s the options of gathering with

others in Sunday School or Bible Study

during the week.

Whatever is best for you, please, keep

seeking after the knowledge of God

that he has made available to us. Being

a disciple of Christ means that we’re

never satisfied with what we know. As

disciples of Christ, in the words of Paul,

“Not that I have already obtained all

this, or have already arrived at my

goal, but I press on to take hold of that

for which Christ Jesus took hold of

me.” (Philippians 3:12) Keep pressing,

brothers and sisters.

1 Year Bible Plan

Advent – beginning four Sundays before Christmas (December 25). A time of prayer and fasting for those in the Christian church.

It’s a nice definition from Merriam-Webster. Of course there’s so much more to Advent. These days, especially this year, the Christmas in-dustry has been pushing us to decorate and buy for Christmas from the day after Halloween. It’s been hard to even remember there was Thanksgiving. But here we are in the month of December and the season of Advent. Technically, for Christians, Christmas is to be celebrated from Christmas day to Epiphany, which is January 6. This time of Advent is to be a time of prayer and fasting as we anticipate the coming of Christ. Yes, Christ came as a baby and grew in stature and favor with man. Christ lived and taught among us and then he died for all of our sins. But then he rose from the dead and will come again. So while we may not be waiting for Christ to come into the world for the first time we do await his second coming. And we should do it with great prayer and fasting. While fasting is usually associated with Lent, the season before Easter, I’ll encourage you to take a day a week over this Advent season and give yourself to prayer and fasting as we await Christ’s second coming.

You can also use the following readings for lighting your advent wreath at home.

First Sunday of Advent: See Hope Speak: “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’” (Ps. 122:1, NRSV). Light the first candle for hope. Let us see hope in the Lord! Read: Isaiah 2:1-5 and Matthew 24:36-44 Reflect: Where do you see hope in Isaiah 2 and Matthew 24? Reflect on the hope that God’s light will shine on the mountaintop, re-vealing the goodness of new life. Engage: Take a prayer walk. This time apart with God can occur on a mountain, in your neighborhood, or just about anywhere. As you walk, look around you for signs of hope. Pray: Gracious God, we seek you everywhere with expectant eyes that invite us to see hope in the world today. Amen.

Second Sunday of Advent: See Peace Speak: “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things” (Ps. 72:18). Light the second candle for peace. Let us see peace in the Lord! Read: Isaiah 11:1-10 and Romans 15:4-13 Reflect: Where do you see peace in Isaiah 11 and Romans 15? Where do you see signs of peace in an anxious world? Engage: Slow down and reflect on your story. Bring your family together to share stories of gratitude and salvation. Pray: Gracious God, we seek you everywhere with expectant eyes that invite us to see peace in the world today. Amen.

Third Sunday of Advent: See Joy Speak: “Jesus said, ‘Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them’” (Matt. 11:4-5). Light the third candle for joy. Let us see joy in the Lord! Read: Isaiah 35:1-10, Luke 1:46-55, and Matthew 11:2-11 Reflect: When have you seen the promise of joy in challenging times? How do you share with others the joy you find in Jesus? Engage: Read James 5:7-10. How are you willing to be patient and wait for joy today? How will you serve others as you wait? Pray: Gracious God, we seek you everywhere with expectant eyes that invite us to see joy in the world today. Amen.

Fourth Sunday of Advent: See Love Speak: “Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 1:18). Light the fourth candle for love. Let us see love in the Lord! Read: Isaiah 7:10-16 and Matthew 1:18-25 Reflect: Read and reflect on Psalm 80:19. Remember that salvation is a gift of love from the Lord. What other gifts has God given you today? Engage: Show an act of kindness to a child with a parent who is ill or incarcerated, or take dinner to the medical team at your local emergency room or urgent-care clinic. Pray: Gracious God, we seek you everywhere with expectant eyes that invite us to see love in the world today. Amen.

Christmas Eve/Day: See the Child that Changes the World! Speak: “A child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6). Light the Christ candle. Let us see the One who was born to change the world! Read: Isaiah 9:2-7 and Luke 2:1-20 Reflect: Where in your community do you see signs that Christ is changing the world? Where would you like to see more signs of change? Engage: What will you do today to share God with others? Pray: Gracious God, we seek you everywhere with expectant eyes that invite us to see all the people that you are calling us to love today. We praise you, O God, for the King of Kings! Amen.

Bakers Needed to Benefit Missions Bakers are needed for the UMW Cookie Sale, proceeds benefiting the United Methodist Missions. Please bring your cookies to the CLC on December 4th from 3p-6:30p. The sale is December 5th from 9am-2p at the CLC.

Meals for Moms The purpose of our ministry is to provide a series of home cooked meals so the family with a new baby (birth or adoption) can spend those first precious moments together, rather than in the kitchen. We pro-vide 12 meals over the course of 4 weeks. Do not underestimate the importance a meal that you do not have to shop for, prepare and cook for yourself! Agape Circle will be selling quarts of soup. Proceeds are used to purchase materials used to make baby blankets for our church baptisms.

UMW will be selling home baked cookies to benefit missions.

Sew Many Blessings will be selling crafts to support the Yellow Ribbon Girls. Proceeds are for mate-

rials purchased to make stockings and pillowcases for our troops. 616 Stockings and 400 pillowcases were made in 2020. Along with the UMW, there will be many other vendors selling unique crafts, gifts and food items. Each vendor will be donating a minimum of 10% of their profits to the following non-profit organizations: Chippewa Meals on Wheels, Yellow Ribbon Girls, Beaver County Humane Society, Women’s Center of Beaver County or the CUMC General Mission Fund. Please support our vendors and their small businesses while also giving back to local non-profits. Come out to the CLC to start the joyous holiday season!

Hello GODLY Men: Praying all is well with you and your family. This is really tough right now isn’t it, Men. No church social life, we need this to come to an end. We need fellowship together. A men’s Bible study, a Men of Integrity conference, will even just settle for a Chili cook off, something to bring us back together, in our service to GOD, cause right now our Faith is being tested every-day. So this month we are

going to look at our Faith.

Faith is the belief in some-thing or someone unseen; complete trust, confidence and devotion; by FAITH we receive the gift of Salvation in the sacrifice of JESUS CHRIST. James 1:3 “The test-ing of your Faith produces Patience.” Now that is tested in me almost everyday and I fail mostly everyday. I think Satan knows, and that is one

of his go-to sins for me.

From a Billy Graham devo-tional, I read this about Faith. Dwight L. Moody was fond of

pointing out that there are three kinds of Faith in Jesus

Christ.

STRUGGLING Faith: Which is like a man floundering and

fearful in deep water.

CLINGING Faith: Which is like a man hanging onto the

side of the boat.

RESTING Faith: Which finds a man safe inside the boat, strong and secure enough to reach out his hand to help

someone else.

Notice each man had Faith. Each knew the boat was his only hope. But only one had RESTING Faith. Only one had discovered he could actually be in the boat, where all he

had to do was rest.

This is the kind of Faith GOD wants us to have, a Faith that trusts Him totally, but some-times we discover it’s a reali-ty only after we have en-dured a struggling or clinging

Faith.

Sometimes we only realize

we can get in the boat when the storm rages and we cry out to GOD with new FAITH. Then our Savior graciously extends His hand and say’s, “come to me and I will give

you rest”. Matthew 11:28.

Proverbs 16:20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth

in the LORD, happy is he.

Reflection: It is good and profitable to use GOD’s wis-dom to solve situations using our emotions, mistakes will always be made. You will find joy and happiness when you rely on the wisdom of GOD, because then you have resting FAITH, sitting inside the boat, with a Faith that

trusts HIM.

Isaiah 40:29 HE giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might HE increaseth

strength.

Reflection: GOD is strong for the weak. HE increases our strength when we need it. Many believers throughout

history accomplished great things for GOD, and they will tell you it was only through the LORD’s strength they did. GOD is our strength. When you feel like you can’t hold on to the side of the boat anymore, pray and ask GOD for HIS strength to sit in the

boat and rest.

WOW WOW, Men, think about it, we must and we know we should put our FAITH and TRUST in our GOD and JESUS our LORD and SAV-

IOR.

Let’s Pray: Dear LORD, we thank you for loving us so much. Help us FATHER to keep the FAITH which gives us confidence, belief and trust. To HIM be all the glory and

Stuff a Pumpkin—Thank You!!!

Thank-you CUMC for your generous donations of candy and treats. As you can see by the picture the Stuff-a-Pumpkin Mission was very much appreciated. As the pumpkin buckets were being unloaded at one of the homes, the residents asked if the pumpkins were for them or "kids". When they were told they were for them from the church they started yelling "thank you"!

It is most im-portant that we make our payments each month at this new rate because more mon-ey from each payment will go toward reducing the principal amount of the loan. In an earlier letter in Septem-ber, you were made aware of the mortgage payments for the CLC with S & T Bank. At that time, I asked you to pray about the situation and requested your assistance in helping the church meet this ongoing financial obligation. I am happy to inform you that during the months of Septem-ber and October, the church has received over 90% of the monies needed to pay the monthly mortgage installment of $9106 ! We are hopeful that within the next week we will receive the new mort-gage agreement with S & T

Follow-up Letter from Your Finance Chairman

You may have noticed that the sign in the front of our church has not been working. Well way back in April when the power went out the sign never came back alive. Our current sign is over twenty years old and parts are no longer avail-

able for it.

Our Trustees have been re-searching new signs and get-ting quotes. A big shout out goes to Brian Dudo who did

most of the leg work on this.

The Trustees have made a decision on the type of sign and a contractor. They have also put a deposit down on

the work.

So during the first or second week of December “Smart

Signs” will be installing our new LED sign. The brick work and outer structure will remain the same and a new LED sign will be installed in the space inside. The new sign will be a little bit larger than the cur-rent one and will be able to

show full pictures.

Our Trustees feel this sign is a very important contact with our community and therefore was a priority for them this

year.

The new sign is being paid for from our Maintenance & Im-provement Fund that the Trus-tees oversee, but if you wish to participate in providing the new sign for our church you can by giving a gift to this

effort. You may give by mailing your check into the church or plac-ing it in the offering plate. Please

mark your gift “Church Sign.”

Thank you and know that our Trus-tees are looking at repaving our

parking lot in the new year.
