Slide 2 The Republic of Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It borders both Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. The capital is the city of Vienna on the Danube River. Austrian Flag Slide 3 Austria is devided into 9 provinces: Vorarlberg Tirol (Tyrol) Salzburg Krnten (Carinthia) Steiermark (Styria) Obersterreich (Upper Austria) Niedersterreich (Lower Austria) Burgenland Wien (Vienna) Slide 4 Austrias provinces, capitals and their landmarks Vorarlberg: Capital: Bregenz Landmark: Martinsturm (Martin Tower): It was built in the 13th century. Vorarlberg is the province we are from. Slide 5 Capital:Innsbruck Landmark:Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) There are 2738 golden shingles on the roof. Tirol (Tyrol): Slide 6 Salzburg: Capital: Salzburg Landmark: Festung Hohensalzburg The Hohensalzburg is 250 metres long and 150 metres broad. Its the biggest castle in Central Europe. Slide 7 Capital:Klagenfurt Landmark:Lindwurm (Lindworm): It was built by Ulrich Vogelsang. It is a fountain. Krnten (Carinthia): Slide 8 Steiermark (Styria): Capital:Graz Landmark: Grazer Uhrturm (Graz Clocktower) The clocktower was built in the 13th century. Slide 9 Capital: Linz Landmark:Wallfahrtskirche Pstlingberg : This church was built on the Pstlingberg (mountain) in 1742. The Pstlingberg is 539 metres high and a very popular destination for tourists. Obersterreich (Upper Austria): Slide 10 Niedersterreich (Lower Austria): Capital: St. Plten Landmark:Klangturm This tower was built with 1000 m glass and 650 tons of steel. Slide 11 Capital: Eisenstadt Landmark: Schloss Esterhazy This castle was built in the 13th century. Burgenland: Slide 12 Landmark: Stephansdom This is one of the most important gothic buildings in Austria. You can find it in the centre of Vienna. Wien (Vienna): Slide 13 Vienna ist the capital of Austria (this is Vienna by night). Vienna is Austria's primary city; with a population of about 1.7 million (2.3 million within the metropolitan area), it is the largest city in Austria as well as its cultural, economic, and political center.
