Joshua At the end of Easter we start the long season after Pentecost, which lasts until the year begins again in Advent. For many families and businesses the beginning of this new sea- son coincides with the beginning of summer and usually means a shift in time--a slower season and, sometimes, a time of vacation and travel. And even though it’s true around the church that the summer is a bit slower and low key, there are several important events around the corner! First, the first Sunday of July (the 7th), Jon Pucik will be with us to preach. After gradu- ating from ASU St. Mark’s sponsored Jon to begin the discernment process and attend seminary. This fall Jon starts his last year at Virginia Theological Seminary. (Katherine Wren starts her last year too in Little Rock at the Ionia Initiative. Katherine is spending the summer working at Which means this coming March St. Mark’s alone will likely have two candidates for ordination--a huge and rare honor!) Second, in the last Sunday of July (the 28th) will be bitter sweet. In their last Sunday with us before they too leave for seminary (in Austin) Brandon Haynes will preach and we will say goodbye to him and Matthew. We will thank them both for all their service to this church and send them on their journey to serve the larger church. Finally, the next three Sundays in June are each important principle feast Sundays (our most important high feast days). This coming Sunday we will observe Ascension Sunday, followed by the Feast of Pentecost, followed by Trinity Sunday. Theologically each Sun- day is as important as All Souls or Christday Day--and we get them three weeks in a row! I look forward to seeing you at church and around the community this summer! Peace to you all, Father Joshua

The Missive

A Message from Fr. Joshua

At the end of Easter we start the long season after Pentecost, which lasts until the year begins again in Advent. For many families and businesses the beginning of this new sea-son coincides with the beginning of summer and usually means a shift in time--a slower season and, sometimes, a time of vacation and travel. Two Saints’ Kitchen

Have you ever thought volunteering with Two Saint’s sounded like fun but just didn’t have the time to devote to joining a forever team? Here is your chance!!! During the summer, our group almost doubles the amount of people that we normally feed. During the summer time also we have a sincere need for “spare hands”. Due to summer conflicts and vacations, sometimes our teams can be a little short-handed. If helping out here and there sounds like something you would like to do, please drop me a line to my email [email protected] I will be happy to add you to a list of names so when the need arises, you will know when we are needing help and sign up at your convenience. Other than that, have an awesome summer and enjoy yourselves! Sincerely, Marya Langford

Thanks so much to Jenna Daniel for helping us learn about Essential Oils at our ECW May Meet-up. Jenna answered all our questions, and had a lot of hands on materials for us to experience, and experiment with these oils! ECW is on break until next Fall. Tentatively, our next meeting will be Saturday September 14th. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Summer, see you in September!

Men’s Club enjoyed a golf outing at Sage Meadows in May. The weather was perfect and Dr. Terry and Alex Barnett prevailed as the tournament winners! Afterwards, we enjoyed a meal and fellowship together at JTown’s Grill. Men’s Club will meet on Thursday, June 20th at 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall, with food and activity to be announced. Come out and enjoy a good meal and bring a friend!

Perry Moses,

Men’s Club President

Keep your eyes and ears open for information about Vacation Bible School as we get closer to the date. Until then, please keep our VBS program in your prayers.

We will be needing folks to help creating props and murals before VBS

Christian Education

Christian Education ended for the summer with a special end of year gathering on May 8. Our festivities began with an ice cream social. Afterwards, we recognized the children who participated in Children’s Christian Education with Certificates of Attend-ance and end of year progress reports. Thanks to the parents who provided all the yummy topping for our ice cream. We want to say best wishes to Samuel Welch who will be moving up to junior high next fall. We appreciate the support from his family for the years he has been active in Christian Ed.

There are so many folks to thank for helping make this year’s Christian Education program such a success. First, a special thank you to the folks who stepped up to teach: Lydia Howard and Jessica McBride. These dedicated women shared their love of Christ and faith with the children every Wednesday evening.

A big THANK YOU to all the parents and parishioners who supported Christian Education by providing delicious refreshments during community time.

Stepping out in faith and answering a call can be challenging but remember we don’t ever do it alone. With Fr. Joshua’s support and with God’s help we are able to accomplish some awesome things. Please consider sharing your time and talents with Christian Education for children when classes resume next fall. We need you. For more information speak Rose Mary Latanich, the volunteer director of children’s ministries.

Liturgy of the Word with Children

Many Episcopal churches are now celebrating liturgy of the word with children during Sunday services. Children listen to the same gospel reading that their parents hear during Sunday worship but in a way that is understandable for a child. Liturgy with children, as with adults demands dignity, clarity, and simplicity. Our hope and goal at St. Mark’s is to teach the Word of God in an age-appropriate way which will hopefully help nurture a child’s spiritual journey at a child’s own pace and time.

Liturgy of the Word with Children is celebrated during our Sunday 10:00am service and is directed for children four years of age to 5th grade. We have some great volunteers but would like to have more individuals helping so adult volunteers have the opportunity to celebrate Sunday liturgies in the “big church.” If you have an interest please speak with Rose Mary
