The Colosseum Do you think you know many things about the Colosseum? Here I´m going to tell you some more interesting things! The Roman Colossseum is a wonderful amphitheatre of the Roman Empire. It was built many years ago, in the first century of the Roman Empire. First it was called the Flavian Amphitheatre, in honor to the Flavia dynasty of emperors who built it, and came to be called Colosseum because of a large statue located next to it. By its architectural characteristics, conservation status and history, the Colosseum is one of the most famous monuments of classical antiquity. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1980 by the UNESCO and one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World on 7 July 2007, did you know this? The Colosseum is the main tourist attraction in Rome and thousands of visitors pay each year to enter and see the arena, isn´t that exciting? Another amazing thing is that there is a museum dedicated to the Greek god Eros, on the top floor of the building. Part of the soil of the sand has been refilled. One of the current uses of the Colosseum is the Via Cruses, headed by the Pope, carried out every Holy Friday. I believe that if you like history and everything related to the Romans, fights between them and the Hebrew, what their lives, their habits where like, etc., you should visit the Colosseum. Personally, I wouldn’t visit it, as I don't like history. The only reason why I would visit it is because of its architecture, which is something I do like!

CHRIST OF CORCOVADO

Did you know that those who live in San Pablo say that

Christ of Corcovado will clap it hands when Cariocas get down to work?

The Christ the Redeemer statue or Christ of Corcovado is a 38 m high statue of Jesus of Nazareth with open arms showing the city of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. It is located at 709 meters above sea level in the National Park of Tijuca, at the top of the Corcovado Mountain. It dates back to 1931, after five years of work. It´s considered the largest Art deco statue in the world- incredible! Christ The Redeemer is one of the great attractions of Brazil, and it still looks almost like the first day it was shown. People love it!

The Corcovado provides an amazing viewpoint for the average tourist; you can see the entire city of Rio de Janeiro, and for believers it is a place of pilgrimage. In 2007 it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

The Christ The Redeemer statue must be a beautiful tourist attraction to visit with family or friends. If some day I get the chance, I would love to go. Not only to see the statue, but also to see all the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro.
