Branching out into theatrical composition, libretto writing, film score composition, large chorale works and theme songs for televi-sion series like The Godfathers and The Lost Islands. These days he directs films, writes books and sings jazz. Ray Vanderby began performing on organ at the age of 11, and at 16 he taught him-self how to play piano improvisation. He went on to work as a sideman to some of Australia’s top artists Marcia Hines, Doug Parkinson, John English. He supported Joe Cocker at Myer Music Bowl, Boomtown Rats, Osibisa at the Capitol Theatre as well as national Jazz, Blues Festivals. Warren Baker is a New Zealand born drummer and has been a member of the quartet from the beginning. Over the years Warren has shared the stage with many Jazz musicians including Lloyd Swanton and Kate Swadling. Greg Gibson plays tenor, alto and soprano sax on the album and began playing pro-fessionally in 1975. He completed Jazz studies at the NSW State Conservatorium of Music. Greg has also worked with Jeannie Lewis, Charanga Libre and Frank Bennett. Adam Bodkin is on double bass and has a Diploma Music in Jazz Studies Canberra. Iain has studied Jazz at the Canberra School of Music under LA born Eric Ajaye (Freddie Hubbard, Taj Ma-hal), and is currently studying under Craig Scott at the Sydney Conservatorium. RUGBY LEAGUE Canowindra Tigers have appointed their coaches for the 2010 season. Damian Kennedy will again lead First Grade after a good year in 2009. The Tigers gave 100% every week under Kennedy in 2009, making it to the grand final qualifier. The 2009 Woodbridge Cup coach of the year will be looking to surpass the previous seasons feats in 2010.The town certainly got behind the local coach with crowds up through out 2009. The Under 18s will be led by Andrew Whatman. Andrew brings a wealth of experi-ence to the club from a long association with Rugby League. In his playing career Andrew represented at Divisional level, he then took to coaching in the strong Group 6 competi-tion taking under 18s to consecutive semi finals appearances before coaching first grade in the then Illawarra Amateur league. He fol-lowed this with a stint of six years as a club President. For his Services he was awarded life membership of the Robertson Burrawang Rugby League Football Club. After moving to Canowindra Andrew has been actively in-volved with Canowindra junior league and actually played for the tigers in 2004. His appointment is a massive boost to the club not just for his coaching abilities but ob-viously his all round experience. Under 18s Teams from Canowindra, Cabonne United, Grenfell, Peak Hill, Condobolin, and a Forbes side are expected to participate in the 2010 under 18s Woodbridge cup competition. Representative football looks a near certainty for the under 18s, a Woodbridge Cup under 18s representative side will take part in the Western Region Challenge taking on Group ten clubs Cowra and Orange Hawks in early 2010, for those that shine, then the chance to take the steps through Woodbridge Cup, Group 11, Western Rams and Country.
Training will begin early 2010 for both sides. Oz Tag 2010 may well see the running of a women’s Oz Tag competition. The games will be played on match days and feature sides from the Woodbridge Cup competition. Canowindra will look to field a side of Tigresses. Referees The 2009 season saw Col Tangye, Garry Whatman, Peter Watt, Barry Burn, Brydon Hughes, Luke Watt and Nick Whatman all pass their accreditations as referees. In late February or early March a referee’s course for level one and level 2 referees will be held in Canowindra. A general knowledge of the game is required. Anyone interested in doing a referees course please ring Col Tangye on 6344 1929. More on this, early 2010. Merry Christmas The Committee would like to take this chance to thank the supporters and sponsors for their support in 2009. May you all have a merry Christmas and happy and safe new year.

Under 14s Cricket The U14s took on Grenfell at the Oval and Grenfell won the toss and batted. Josh Knight made 30 while Henry Knowles made 10. Harry Whatman took three wickets in an over which took the heart out of the Grenfell in-nings and they made 83 at the end of their 27 overs. Tim Middleton and Rohan Toole made 18 each with Rohan battling a tummy bug as well as Grenfell’s bowlers. Harry backed up his excellent bowling with a valuable 13 while Bradyn Cassidy and Wallace Stranger steered Canowindra to victory as Bradyn made 8 not out and Wallace retired on 30. Canowindra made 122 at the end of their overs and con-tinue their winning streak. UNDER 16S CRICKET Canowindra U16s played Lachlan Fertilizers and again went down 151–94. Lachlan Fertilizers won the toss and batted but tighter bowling from Jacob Devlin and Mick Clyburn limited the scoring of their openers as Phil Tarrant retired on 18 and Cody Brooks 17. Accurate bowling from the Canowindra side saw wickets fall as batsmen were bowled but Sam Ogilvy and Cody Brooks returned to the crease and amassed a total of 151. Canowindra’s run chase started brightly enough as Mick Clyburn hit four fours off the second over but was unluckily run out in the next just as he was getting started. Sam Ogilvy knocked the heart out of Canowindra’s innings as he bowled three of them in one over and Canowindra could only make 94 in total. Junior Cricket takes a break until Saturday 6 February where the Under16s competition may, or may not be, run as a 20/20 format on Friday Nights. Stay tuned for more details as they are decided.
