Set in a Victorian drawing room, Anna and Claire are two bantering, scheming ‘women of fashion’ who live together on the fringes of society. Anna has just become the mistress of a wealthy man, from whom she has received an enormous emerald. Claire, meanwhile, is infatuated with a young girl and wants to enlist the jealous Anna's help for an assignation. Kelly

Following the success of its Brisbane season, the new Australian play Kelly comes to our stage. Weaving together fact, theory and myth, Kelly explores masculinity, brotherhood and the dangerous dynamic of mateship.

Ned Kelly is about to hang for his crimes, but his final night in prison is interrupted by the arrival of his brother Dan, disguised as a priest. Supposedly killed at the siege of Glenrowan, Dan is intent on moving north to Queensland and forgetting his past. To do so, he needs Ned’s blessing and forgiveness. But the last time they saw each other, Dan tried to shoot Ned dead.

So begins a brutal confrontation by two titans of Australian history. Facing the sins of their past, each blames the other for their downfall. And neither will escape unharmed.

Queensland Symphony Orchestra: Movie MasterpiecesIt’s hard to imagine great movies without their equally great soundtracks. Modern composers have set the tone for countless films, including John Williams for Star Wars and the Harry Potter series, or Ennio Morricone for The Mission, from which the QSO will perform the famous melody, Gabriel’s Oboe.

So expressive, so vital to the meaning of the movie, is it any wonder that concert composers have always been drawn to writing with stopwatch in hand and silent rushes on the screen before them? Net result? Melodies so sublime, and orchestral showpieces so exhilarating, that they define the music of our times.

The One Day of the YearBy Alan Seymour

‘It’s Anzac Day this week, that’s my day, that’s the old Diggers’ day.’

What is the meaning of Anzac Day? For war veterans like Alf Cook and his friend Wacka Dawson, it’s the chance to commemorate history, celebrate heroism and conjure national pride. For Alf’s son Hughie, Anzac Day flies the flag for a very different reality, one that brings the dignity of our Diggers to its knees and into the gutter – via one too many down the pub.

Sparking huge controversy on its release in the Sixties, this play incites as much passion now as ever. The One Day of the Year looks at our national legend through the eyes of generation, class and character.

CoppéliaCoppélia is a ballet that the whole family can enjoy.Li Cunxin, Artistic Director

Following the sell-out performances of Cinderella in 2014, Queensland Ballet brings another exquisite ballet to our stage.

Franz and Swanilda are both curious about the beautiful girl they’ve have seen on Dr Coppélius’s balcony. Jealous of Franz’s apparent romantic interest, Swanilda sneaks into the doctor’s house to confront her rival. To her great surprise, she finds that Coppélia is not what she seems. When Doctor Coppélius and Franz arrive, the resourceful Swanilda decides to become a real, living doll.

Choreographer Greg Horsman has drawn on real-life stories of 19th century German immigrants to the South Australian town of Hahndorf to create a touching and witty Coppélia. With its endearing characters, joyful dance and the charming music of Léo Delibes, this is a delightfully enjoyable ballet.

KinshipArtistic Director - Stephen Page

Internationally acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre presents an original and breathtaking theatrical experience, Kinship, by award-winning choreographer Stephen Page.

Kinship opens with Brolga, a creation story inspired by the totemic systems in Australian Aboriginal culture. Set in North East Arnhem Land, a young girl ventures out before sunset and finds herself on a brolga feeding ground. As she is challenged by her totemic temptation, she takes us on a journey of exploring relationships between humans and creatures, reflecting on the intrinsic spirituality of the natural world.

The performance continues with ID, investigating what it means to be Aboriginal in the 21st century, asking important questions of identity. ID contemplates human nature in modern society where skin colour can drive perceptions rather than embracing differences.

Footy, friendship and reckless behaviour

In the small town of Pintoon everyone loves the footy. Jack is smart, funny and is being bullied. What starts as an off the cuff joke during a handball competition, soon turns into a set of circumstances whereby Jack is no longer safe in the playground. But with the use of self-expression through photography, Jack begins to make sense of his world; of his relationships with others, and most importantly, with himself.

This one man show explores the often overlooked insidious taunting and teasing that bullies are so adept at inflicting on their victims and the roles that family and schools can play in responding. Jack takes us on a touching and sometimes comical journey as he moves from victim to victor.

Based on his two best-selling books, Flak and Fly, well-known writer and performer Michael Veitch presents Flak - True stories from the men who flew in World War Two in which he takes on the roles of former airmen, recounting their extraordinary, true and largely untold stories of combat in the air war of 1939-45.

Mon 20 Apr, 11.00am

TenoriThree powerhouse singers, David Kidd, Craig Atkinson and Andrew Pryor (The Ten Tenors, Opera Australia) bring their sense of fun and sophistication to opera, music theatre, jazz and everything in between.
