great success and the sequel to Surat Lit Fest

2015:Kahani. This was a Nalanda Education Society

initiative, hosted by DPS Surat and DPS Tapi at Veer

Narmad University and Gandhi Smriti Bhavan from

25-27 November 2016. Celebrities like Shabana

Azmi, Rohini Hattangadi, Utkarsh Majoomdar and

others recited Urdu and Hindi poetry. Smt. Mittul

Pradeep, daughter of Late Kavi Pradeep had an

interactive session with our students at DPS Tapi on

World Aids Day 2016

World Aids Day was celebrated with a

special assembly by Class VI-A students on

2 December 2016, consisting of song, dance

and role-play to increase social awareness

about the AIDS pandemic caused by HIV

infection.

DPS Birding Club

Class VI students joined the DPS Birding Club on

1-2 December 2016 with a talk on bird genus,

species, structure, habits, breeding patterns and

habitats, followed by a bird-watching session with

binoculars under the guidance of Mr. G.R.

Sivakumar.

Junior Night Camp

Students of Class IV and V had a night out in school away from home on 3 December 2016. This was an

Astronomy Camp where the learners were introduced to Sky Gazing at night. In the guidance of Mr. G.R.

Sivakumar, DPS Educational Consultant and few students of class X and XI of DPSS Astronomy Club

our students learned about sky gazing. They saw the Moon, the planets, constellations and stars. They also

asked a lot of questions regarding sky gazing to increase their knowledge. The learners showed their

interest in learning with practical knowledge. They were involved in various activities since their arrival.

Immediately after the group photo they were divided into groups and went to their activity centres one

after the other like fishing, hunting, tent pitching, and hut making. Later the students had camp fire

followed by singing songs with the music teacher. This Camp had made the learners more informative

and experienced with knowledge. The students were lucky enough to travel within the galaxy, though

virtually, through the gadgets and indeed with such intellectual mentor.

Excursion to Ahmedabad-Udaipur-Kumbhalgarh

Classes VI-IX students of DPS TAPI went on an

experiential learning excursion from 3-6 December

2016 to the archaeological site of Lothal, the step-well

Adalaj Ni Vav and Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram at

Ahmedabad, FatehSagar and City Palace at Udaipur

the capital of Mewar, the Maharana Pratap Museum on

HaldiGhati, and the Kumbhalgarh Fort. History came

alive outside the textbook for on these days.

Excursion to Dharampur

A special assembly by Class VII-B students on

9th

December 2016 celebrated Eid-e-Milad or the

birthday of Prophet Mohammad, with a prayer

song, dance and a skit on the Prophet’s

teachings.

Class V students went on an Experiential

Learning Excursion to the Science Centre at

Dharampur on 17 December 2016, learning

about our Universe in the planetarium, watching

a 3-D film, enjoying hands-on experiments and

playing in the science park.

Surat Inter School Darts Team Championship 2016-17

DPS Tapi organized the Surat Inter School Darts Team Championship 2016-17on 17 December 2016, with

over a 100 participants from 18 schools. The winners are:

Function at Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium on 23 and

24 December 2016. On the first day, Pre-Nursery to

Class II students presented And the Show Goes On!

followed by the Hindi play Boorhi Kaaki by

Premchand, enacted by Classes VIII-IX students.

Classes III-VII and X students presented Rajya Se

Swaraj Tak on the second day, followed by King

Porus, Legend of Ancient India, English poetic

drama of Michael Madhusudan Dutt enacted by

Classes VI-IX students. The themes highlighted the

fallacy of superstition and history and patriotism.

Classes VII-VIII students experienced learning about the different constellations and

their stories, life of stars (from nebulae to supernova), Black hole, Big Bang theory, the

Solar System and types of telescopes in an all-night roof-top Astronomy session on 25

December 2016 with iPads, binoculars and telescopes under the guidance of Mr. G.R.

Sivakumar.
