Lesson 1Objectives:1. To review the levels and teacher

comments in the sketchbooks for the current surrealism project.

2. To use the comments to improve between 1 – 3 of the images in your book by the end of the lesson.

What level are you? AF3

Creating art, craft and designLevel 8 I freely and independently experiment with and combine approaches,

materials and processes, including new technology I create highly successful artwork which show informed judgements and

secure technical understanding with a mastery of practical skills.Level 7 I test, and adapt materials and techniques, purposefully and imaginatively.

I can confidently and sensitively use materials to create successful art work e.g. combining bold techniques with delicate ones.

Level 6 I can choose my own materials to work with to support my ideas. I can use new materials and techniques effectively.

Level 5 I can confidently use a range of materials that are fit for purpose. I can use my knowledge of techniques to establish clear and planned ideas.

Level 4 I can select and use a range of materials that are fit for purpose. I can use my experiments to influence my ideas. I can use materials with some skill and in different ways.

Level 3 I can use more than one material in my work. I can use materials in different ways. I can use materials/techniques correctly to complete my work.

Task1:•Look through your sketchbooks and find the pieces of work in the surrealist project that have been given levels, comments and a tracker sheet.Task2:•Have a look at the level I have given your work and tick on the tracker sheet the sections you have completed and highlight what you need to do to move to the next level. Task3:•Revisit the work and respond to the comments and self assessment on as many of the images as you can to improve your levels. * Materials have been provided on your tables, raise your hand if you require extra resources.

Lesson 2Objectives:1. To explore the work of artist John

Kenn and produce two artist analysis of his images.

2. To produce work on post it notes inspired by Kenn and surrealism.

All students will produce a group artist analysis using the worksheet and present with the group to the class.

Most students will produce an individual artist research in their sketchbooks using the resources provided.

Some students will begin creating their own 6 post it note images inspired by Kenn and the surrealist images from the handouts.

Lesson 2• Post it note Art:

Born in Denmark 1978. John Kenn writes and directs television shows for kids. But has recently become famous for his drawings of monsters on post-it notes... “it is a little window into a different world, made on office supplies”.

Lesson 2Analysing an artists work.....

Task1:In groups of 4 look at the image on the sugar paper and answer work together to answer the questions on the artist analysis sheet on your table. Be prepared to present your answers to the class.

Task2:Using the sheet and the example on the board analyse the new image individually into your sketchbook using the layout recommended.

• Post it note Art Task3:Create 6 post it note pieces of art using inspiration from the handouts. Only use biro.

Homework: Complete 6 post it note drawings

Lesson 3&4• Matchbox Art

Task1:Using inspiration from the images on the handouts create a surrealist painting on the top of your matchbox.Task2:Create a concertina booklet that fits inside your matchbox and has 5 sides.Task3:Create a small surrealist image on each side of your concertina

• Alice In Wonderland Task1:

Complete matchbox art concertina from last lesson.

Task2:

Read the extract from ‘Alice In Wonderland’.

Task3:

Create a 5 page concertina to show a step by step story board of the scene of a part of the extract.

• Mad Hatters tea party – Shoe Box ConcertinaTask:Pick a seat at the tea party and draw the objects in front of you to fill 2 of the squares on your concertina. Use a variety of materials and make the drawings as interesting and detailed as you can .
