To face the challenges, the institute, as is the practice, consulted the recruiters, industry representatives and reputed academicians and took feedback from the alumni and students and reviewed the curriculum. After discussion in the Board of Studies for the programme, several new courses and topics were added.

The institute also revamped its selection process and weightage of some parameters were changed and several new parameters were added to select students, who would be able to take on the challenges mentioned above.

Students of this batch have been and will continue to be exposed to the thinking, intellect and experiences of a large number of professionals from industry through various co-curricular events and guest lectures, for which a weekly schedule is prepared at the beginning of the academic year. The institute sensitizes to the emerging areas in their domains by these inter-actions.

At K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research we continually face challenges and how we view them deĴ nes us. Do we choose to see the challenges as stepping stones or as obsta-cles? If we choose to see them as obstacles, then the challenges we face, will be viewed as problems- problems that need to be overcome along with all the negative connotations associated with the problems. A great deal of energy can be spent focusing on a negative mindset- mindset like “I can’t”, “I won’t” “I don’t want to” and ‘I shouldn’t have to”. And this will be a wasteful exercise. We at SIMSR, how-ever, choose to see challenges as stepping stones-opportunities that we have encountered along the way for us to use, to “step on” so that we achieve more, develop further and ultimately actualize our vision and mission.

Our vision is to be amongst the top 100 B-schools in the world by the year 2025 and our mission is to create holistically developed value based corporate citizens committed to the sustainable growth of the country. To achieve our vision and mission we are transforming and process obviously, is not very comfortable. The entire process is akin to a caterpillar transforming into a ButterĶ y. The process is, no doubt, painful but the end result is extremely pleasant. If we have to become a world-class institution the role of students cannot be negated. We train our students to be well-behaved and disciplined individuals exhibiting never ending quest for learning. At SIMSR we ensure that students not only learn the existing business strategies but also question the same and get ready to innovate and ex-periment. Business is all about innovation and innovations come through those who are willing to experiment and commit mistakes. In their journey to innovations our students Ĵ nd the team of our faculty members at SIMSR always willing to mentor and facilitate them towards achieving their goals. Our endeavor has also been to inculcate human values amongst the young minds. The lack of human values is eroding India and its Indianness as is evident by Mass Corruption, Gross Ineffi ciency and All-round indiscipline that we are witnessing today. Another distinguishing quality that our students imbibe over a period of their stay in the campus is Humility. Unless we practice humility we cannot aspire for higher things. Humility is about saying “God has been kind to me to make me come this far; there are people out there who are much better than me.”

Keeping in line with our vision, we ensure that students coming out of our institute have a deĴ nite competitive edge over others in terms of their domain knowledge, soft skills and their ethical behav-ior. This holistic development prepares them to take up any challenge that they will face in their pro-fessional lives. The rigorous training at our institute prepares them to take any position of responsibil-ity and come up to the expectations of their employers. In the past, too, our students have made a mark in their careers and are occupying leading positions in various corporates. This, obviously, gives us great conĴ dence in inviting you to our campus for summer placement of our students in various functional areas of business. We take this opportunity to seek your support in our journey towards excellence, and would like to establish and reinforce strategic alliances with the corporate world to create a unique niche for ourselves in the fraternity of business schools in the country.

Message from the Chief Manager

If industry acceptance is the ultimate mark of any successful Management School, then we have reasons to be proud of. We have further improved our ranking this year and have been placed at 9th position by ‘Business World’. Our admission cut off percentiles have further gone up. For MMS it is 99 percentile and above in MHCET. For PGDM cousre, it is avaeraging around 95 percentile in CAT.

Immense conĴ dence is shown by industry in brand SIMSR, which is reĶ ected in the fact that almost all leading companies in respective sectors have been participating in our “Placement Process”. As a positive circle, we have been able to attract even better talent to our institute, some of the brightest and toughest brains in the country for our PGDM, PGDM (International Business), PGDM (Financial Services) and MMS batch of 2011-2013.

But there is no time to sit back on our laurels. This has only motivated us to improve and reach new heights of recognition and conĴ dence in the industry.

We have a large pool of 360 students for you to choose from, who are ready to take on the challenges faced by the industry and have been polished to be the ‘manager’s of tomorrow with the spirit of today’.

I am conĴ dent that these young men and women would prove to be an asset to your organi-zation through their managerial capabilities and the values they have imbibed. Our aim is to actively assist you in attracting and identifying individuals best suited for your needs in devel-oping a win-win relationship between the organization, the students and the institute.
