Summer 2016 Philosophy & Public Policy Gabriel Wollner 1 Basic facts of climate change Depending on where you stand empirically, climate change will have nega0ve consequences (migra:on, poli:cal conflict, lower growth), severely nega0ve effects (floods, droughts, storms), or catastrophic results (end of the world as we know it). Human ac:vity is responsible and we keep fuelling it. We are dealing with uncertainty on many levels and long 0me horizons. The phenomenon raises scien:fic, economic, poli:cal and moral ques0ons. It is a perfect moral storm (Stephen Gardiner): Many individually challenging problems intersect and overlap, leaving us in a deep mess. 1 Basic facts 2 A perfect moral storm Global storm Intergenera:onal storm Theore:cal storm 3 Cost-benefit analysis and the right level 4 Jus:ce and the ques:on of distribu:on 5 Paris?
