SSA QUICK TIP: JEILANI ATHMAN Here’s a list of 15 different scholarships that you can apply for! Some scholarships listed are situation-specific, but many of them allow for all students to apply! STUDENT SUCCESS RESOURCE: SCHOLARSHIP DOS & DON’TS DO: DON’T: Ask for a letter of recommendation at least 2 weeks in advance. Spend and schedule time in your day just to look for and apply to scholarships Choose quality over quantity Get feedback from editors. Friends, professors, advisors, etc. can all make great editors Don’t procrastinate! Make sure you give yourself time to complete and proofread your application and essays before they are due! Don’t think that you have to be an outstanding academic or athletic student to win scholarships. Don’t use the same application and essay to apply to every scholarship. Be careful. You shouldn’t have to pay for scholarships or for scholarship searches. Be thorough. Don’t overlook smaller scholarships. Be honest. Don’t exaggerate your grades, memberships, skills, or qualifications. Be proactive. Be diligent. Be on time.
