The Juniors will be moved to the breakfast room while the painting is completed and new carpet is laid. Many thanks to the JBS Dudding trust for their grant enabling this work to be completed. Cross country - we are running cross country at Rangitikei College on Wednesday 15th June. All welcome. Board of Trustees Elections 2019 - It is that time again when we hold elections for the St Matthew’s catholic School Board of Trustees. Several current members have either moved away or wish to resign from the board. We are looking for new members and we encourage you to consider stepping forward for this important role. Board members are paid $55 for each meeting attended. The Board is responsible for governance of the school which involves student achievement, setting and reviewing policy, financial management, health and safety, personnel and property management. More information will be sent home in the next few weeks. Winter Sports - Get stuck in for winter sports 2019! Netball training is beginning - could the team please bring netball gear and shoes each day? Lunches -please consider carefully what you are choosing for your children’s lunches. We are seeing children eating whole cans of Pringles, packets of biscuits and other foods which are tasty but are really ‘treat’ or ‘every so often’ foods. We suggest you offer more protein food such as hard boiled eggs, meat, left overs, cheese, and so forth. We do not recommend yoghurts as these are often spilt or cause a mess during or after eating. ERO Review - St Matthew’s had an Education Review Office review on Monday and Tuesday of the last week of Term 1. When the ERO team reported to the staff and Board they were very complimentary and supportive of our teaching and learning processes and systems. They congratulated the school for its achievements. There were several recommendations around processes and systems which we have either already implemented or will develop in the coming months. Junior Room - Welcome back! We hope that you have all had a lovely term break. This term we have two new children starting, Solialii and James. We wish you a great start to your schooling here at St Matthew’s. Homework- Reading will be sent home every night apart from Fridays starting week 1. From week two the Year 2 and 3's will also have a maths maintenance worksheet for the week in their children new homework book. This worksheet is for the children to practice skills they have been doing at school. Theme- This term we are going to explore Dragons/Taniwha from around the world as myths and legends. Mary McNaught will continue my release every second Friday from 11am. She will be building on learning of measurement (volume/area), time, language experiences and the arts. We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. Whaea Kate Senior Room - We welcome Agape to St Matthew’s this week. Homework is available for weeks one and two. The children will be given their homework sheet later this week. Many thanks to all who supported our efforts during Term 1. This term we are immersing ourselves into a theme of Dragons and Taniwha for the first 6 weeks. Our first learning is reading the book - How to Tame Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. This book has been made into a major motion picture franchise however the book and the first movie differ greatly. We plan to continue our narrative writing learning and write about dragons and taniwha also. Tom and Rachel

Duffy Books - we had a lovely time with Mr Mac, Barbara and the big blue truck during the last week of term one. Mr Macs message was simple - give it a go, don’t give up, learn from your mistakes, work with good people who will support your learning and always do your best. All the children received two books and we had a look at Mr Mac’s big blue truck.

First Reconciliation/ First Eucharist - we are currently taking names for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist with classes to start shortly. Please contact Tom, Mike O’Regan or Fr Peter.
