APPRENTICESHIP LAW The Apprentices Act, 1961 was enacted with the objective of regulating the program of training of
apprentices in the industry by utilizing the facilities available therein for imparting on-the-job training.
Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) & Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD) are responsible for implementation of the Act
Eligibility Criteria Any company or establishment with headcount >4 is eligible
Incentives An apprentice is paid consolidated monthly stipend, without ESI and EPF contributions CSR benefit for over and above 2.5%
Mandatory Criteria Any company or establishment
with headcount >30 is mandated by law to engage
apprentices
maximum of 15% of total headcount
Note: An apprentice is not an employee of the organization

Futuristic 18 approved trades available. ( 75 more, unapproved curricula available ) Industry can design customized courses in line with new Technologies / Future requirements
Inclusive Now Service sector mandated to engage apprentices. Besides Degree/Diploma/ITI Certificate Holder, apprenticeship opened for STT
Convenient Automated Process through the Portal eg. : - https://apprenticeshipindia.org and other portals Establishment can conduct Basic Training in-house, file for reimbursements online…..
Self-Regulation Move from Govt. Regulation to Self-Regulation. SSC CEO’s appointed as JAA
Perhaps, the only Demand/Employer driven Program in the Skilling Ecosystem 4
Penal Provisions Provision of Imprisonment deleted. Fine for default – Rs. 500/- to Rs. 1000/- per month per vacancy. Power vested in CAA/SAA
Apprenticeship scheme is now significantly employer friendly and has wider acceptability for IT-ITeS companies
Leading ITeS companies have begun enrolling under NAPS –Genpact, WNS, Netweb, SkillCube, Acme, Mahindra, Aegis
