vMOCKROCK2011Intheclassroomandinoursport,we,theStudentAthletesattheUniversityofMichigan,trytobeconqueringheroes.Eachyear,MockRockgivesustheopportunitytohelpchangetheunfortunateandrealcircumstanceswithinourowncommunity.Withthemoneyweraise,weareabletopassalongoursuccesstothreeverydiverse,yetworthyorganizations.Wemaynotbeabletocombatpoverty,autism,andillnessonourown,butwhatwecandoisprovidemonetarydonationsinordertocontributetothelargergoalsofStudentAthletesLeadingSocialChange(SALSC),MichiganAutismPartnership(MAP),andTheChildandFamilyLifeProgramthroughC.S.MottChildrensHospital,respectively.Lastyearseventgrossed$75,000+,andthisyearwestrivetoraise$100,000.Butweneedyourhelp.MockRockletsyoubeaheroandhelptotakeasmallstepforwardinconqueringadversity.

TheStudentAthleteAdvisoryCouncil(SAAC)isastudentrunorganizationcomprisedofmembersrepresentingeachvarsityandclubvarsityathleticteamattheUniversityofMichigan.SAACengageswiththeUniversityofMichiganAthleticDepartment,aswellastheUniversityofMichiganatlarge,includingthegeneralstudentpopulationthroughallitsgoverningbodiesandorganizations.SAACisthevoiceofthe750+StudentAthletesstrivingtocreateleadershipopportunities,throughorganizingandparticipatinginathleticevents,campusactivities,andcommunityservice.

Inauguratedin1999,theStudentAthletevarietyshowknownasMockRockwasthewayinwhichSAACraisedmonetarycontributionstowardtheJeffReeseScholarshipFund.AfterthetragicpassingofthisUniversityofMichiganwrestler,hisfellowStudentAthletescreatedtheshowinordertohonorhislife.Overtheyears,MockRockhasdramaticallygrownintoaviableandsustainablestudentrunprojectandthusshifteditsfocustogivingbacktothecommunity,whichsogratefullysupportsStudentAthletes.

C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital

TheChildandFamilyLifeprogramatC.S.MottChildrensHospitalprovidesactivitiesandsupportforpatientsandtheirfamiliesastheyundergothestressesofextendedhospitalstay.Thisprogramprovidesartandmusictherapy,medicalplay,andprocedurepreparationinanefforttonormalizethehospitalexperienceforthechildren.In2009,ChildandFamilyLifeservedover9,000Mottpatientsandtheirfamilies.Thisprogramreliesheavilyonthegenerousgiftsfromthecommunity,andourdonationwouldbeyetanotherwaytheMichiganStudentAthletescontinueoursupportforthebravepatientsatC.S.MottChildrensHospital.

TheMichiganAutismPartnership(MAP)istheauthoritativewheretoturnresourceinMichiganforyoungchildrenwithautismandtheparentsandprofessionalswhocareforthem.Autismisa!"#"$%&'"()*$+!,-*.,$,)/+)0*)+1*(+1*2-"+-,3(,41*()+!"$*/+,(+-%1,*$+interaction,communication,andbehavior.Therapyprogramsarethebestknowntreatmentinaidingthedevelopmentfortheseyoungchildren,howevertheyareextremelyexpensive.MAPprovidesscholarshipstofamiliesinneedforTheP.LA.Y.Project,whichisaplaybasedtherapyusedtoincreasesocialization,improvelanguageanddecreaserepetitivebehavior.Withourfundsraised,wewillbeabletoprovidemanyscholarshipstofamiliesinneed.
