What is Mechatronics ??

It is combination of

• Mechanical engineering

• Electrical engineering

• Computer engineering

• Control engineering

• System Design engineering

The Energy Challenge

1. The world now uses energy at a rate of approximately 4.1x1020 joules/yr, equivalent to a continuous power consumption of 13 tera-watts.

• People, accompanied by rapid technology development and economic growth world-wide, is projected to produce more than double the demand for energy (to 30 TW) by 2050

Causes for these are

PopulationRapid Technological

Growth

Now What is1. Environmentally friendly

2. Conserves natural resourcesand the environment.

3. Clean technology.

4. Currently in beginning stage of it’s developmentfuture will only bring bigger and better things.

Goals Of Green Technology

1. Find ways to produce technology in a way that do not damage or deplete the earth’s natural resources.

2. Alternative source of technology that reduces fossil fuels.

3. Demonstrate less damage to animals, humans and plants.

4. Products can be re-used and re-cycled.

Page 10: Solar powered circuitt

5. Reduce amount of waste and pollution that is during production and consumption.

Solar Powered Circuit• New technology prepared by scientists from the University of Pennsylvania.

• Will no longer require a device touse a battery as the power can come from light powered circuit.

• Actual creation of stimulated Human brain.

The Terminator

It is unlikely to think

that we would see

something

like this

However this

technology actually

makes that a very

real possibility

Working

First difference between this circuit and normal solar cells

Solar cells convert energy to electricity but this breakthrough involves circuits that provide paths for electricity to flow ~ this means sunlight absorbed can be directly used to power the device

Page 14: Solar powered circuitt

Working

• Surface plasmons (electrons) oscillate on tiny particles nanoparticles

PLASMONS

• Plasmons act as super lenses which gather light hitting the circuit.

• Once the light collected the particles pose as electrodes to ferry away the electricity for device to use.

Page 15: Solar powered circuitt

Advantages

• Circuit is very small sized so can be used in various tiny equipments

• It uses the power of sun to power itself which is the ultimate source of energy.

• It is purely environmentally friendly.

Page 16: Solar powered circuitt

Applications

Touch screen of phone could act asBoth electrical charger and Computer chip.

Page 17: Solar powered circuitt

This breakthrough could one day make phone chargers much less necessary

Page 18: Solar powered circuitt

Powering small robotic devices

Actual creation of simulated human brain

Page 19: Solar powered circuitt

• Artificial neural networks running at ultra fast computerCalculations.

• Used to setup artificial networks that could model brain.

Page 20: Solar powered circuitt

We would have one amp with one volt in a sample the diameter of a human hair and an inch long ... If the efficiency scaled up without any additional limits

What does Researches Say?

“This could open the door for many kinds of new devices” – Dawn Bonnell

“The touch screen of your computer could act as both the electrical charger and the computer chip”-By Dawn Bonnell, a Scientist from the University of Pennsylvania who co-authored a recent ACS Nano paper describing the research

“This as the potential to create a new generation of optical and electronic devices.” –By Lukas Novotny, a Scientist at the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester
