MBT PRODUCTSTo make biodiesel, the base oil is put through a process called “esterification.” This refining method uses alcohol (ethanol or methanol) and a catalyst to convert the oil into a fatty-acid methyl-ester fuel (biodiesel). MBT makes this process very easy and with mobile ability, allowing you to make biodiesel anywhere…even off grid.

BIODIESEL: WHAT IS IT?Biodiesel is a clean burning, renewable fuel made from vegetable oil, rendered animal fats or recycled fryer grease. Biodiesel can be used alone, or blended with petro diesel.

Page 5: Slide Deck

BIODIESEL: BRIEF HISTORYAlthough the transesterification of vegetable oil was conducted as early as 1853, it was at the Paris Exhibition of 1900 that Rudolph Diesel unveiled his new engine – which ran entirely on vegetable oil.

Page 6: Slide Deck

BIODIESEL: HOW IT’S USEDBiodiesel can be used in pure form (B100) or may be blended with petroleum diesel at any concentration. Biodiesel will run in any diesel engine with no necessary modifications.*

*running diesel in very cold weather may require an anti-gelling additive.

BIODIESEL FEEDSTOCKSFeedstock is the raw oil used in the refining of biodiesel. Feedstock can be derived from new vegetable oil, recycled grease and rendered animal fats or by combining the above in any amounts.

Page 8: Slide Deck

FEEDSTOCK: EXAMPLESA variety of oils can be used to produce biodiesel. These include Virgin oils such as Jatropha, Canola and Soy Bean; Waste vegetable oil (WVO); Rendered animal fats such as tallow, lard and fish oil, as well as algae. All these can be processed with a Mobile Refinery™ from MBT.

BIODIESEL VS. PETROLEUM DIESELBiodiesel is renewable and sustainable. Regular petroleum diesel is finite. Biodiesel helps stabilize the economy. Petroleum does not. Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. Petroleum raises greenhouse gas emissions. Producing your own biofuel keeps your money local, reducing dependence on foreign oil.

Page 11: Slide Deck

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS Biodiesel is far less harmful to our environment. Biodiesel burns much cleaner than petroleum diesel. Emissions from biodiesel have 56% less hydrocarbons, 43% less carbon monoxide, and the nastiest of all, particulate matter, is 55% less. Biodiesel biodegrades faster than sugar. Biodiesel is a non-toxic, inert liquid. Ordinary table salt is 10 times more toxic than biodiesel!

ECONOMIC BENEFITSA strong demand for biodiesel resources enables agriculture in general to increase and the farmers in particular to have another market to sell to. In this way the industry is more stabilized. Growing and refining biodiesel domestically creates jobs, stimulates economic growth and facilitates energy independence within communities – even nations.

Page 13: Slide Deck

E-PACT BENEFITSEffective November 1998, Congress approved the use of biodiesel as an Energy Policy Act (EPAct) compliance strategy. The legislation allows EPAct-covered fleets (federal, state and public utility fleets) to meet their alternative fuel vehicle purchase requirements simply by buying 450 gallons of pure biodiesel and burning it in new or existing diesel vehicles in at least a 20% blend with diesel fuel.

FUTURE OF BIODIESEL

The future of biodiesel lies in the world’s ability to produce renewable feedstocks to keep the cost of biodiesel competitive with petroleum, without interfering with food crop production or destroying natural ecosystems in the process.

Page 15: Slide Deck

PRODUCTION CHALLENGESUntil recently, there were not many options available for producing your own biodiesel. You either built a large scale refinery or utilized a small scale “home biodiesel kit”. These have their place in the market, yet they present a variety of challenges…

Page 16: Slide Deck

LARGE BIODIESEL PLANTSIf one were to build a 10 million gallon per year plant the cost would be about $10 million. This does not include the land requirements, the power plant and or electric bills. The supply chain infrastructure would also need to be developed. This would have to include oil transport vehicles (tanker trucks), feedstock storage facilities and of course the roadways required to support their passage…you get the picture.

Page 17: Slide Deck

SMALL SCALE PROCESSORSThese are great if you need to fuel a vehicle or two. However, they are not practical for anyone with a fleet, a farm or anyone who grows their own fuel crops. These smaller units do not provide the necessary production capacity, are stationary and are not typically built for industrial applications. Often they are a fire hazard and do not meet building codes.

Page 18: Slide Deck

A UNIQUE SOLUTIONWhat about the needs of the mid-scale biodiesel producer? The Jatropha farmer, the oil collection company or even the large scale refinery R&D team? MBT has the solution for these challenges…and others.

MOBILE BIODIESEL REFINERIESMobile Biodiesel Refineries™ were engineered for a variety of applications. Designed to be user friendly and field ready these mobile refineries can be located anywhere. They arrive on site complete and ready to produce premium biodiesel. They can be moved from location to location, job site to job site or even follow crop harvests.

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES

MBT-716I (X4)

Mobile Biodiesel Refineries™ can be sized up or down, quickly and easily. They can even be grouped together to create a modular, scalable “micro-refinery”.

For example, four MBT-716i* units together produce 4,000 gallons of fuel per day – 80,000 gallons per month. Anywhere. Even off grid.

Imagine the possibilities.

* The MBT-716i is our international model which is designed to produce up to 1000 gal-lons per day .
