BUS RAPID TRANSIT(BRT)

On 9th June, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the first of such service, located in Subang Jaya.

The pilot BRT will allow the 500,000 residents in Bandar Sunway and Subang to connect more easily to existing light-rail transit (LRT) systems

The higher learning institutions there i.e Monash University, Sunway University and Taylor’s University

The project is being built under a public-private partnership (PPP) between the Government-owned Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad and Sunway Berhad with an estimated cost of RM300 million

Project start second quarter of 2013 and is expected to be completed by 2014.

INTRODUCTION

<> The expression BRT is mainly used in the Americas in India, in Europe and Australia.

<> The first BRT system in the world was the Rede Integrada de Transporte which is also known as Integrated Transportation Network implemented in Curitiba, Brazil in 1974.

<> The longest routes as of 2012 with more than 200 kilometres, including 170 kilometres in the capital city of Jakarta, and it has been implemented at least in six Indonesian cities.

The vehicles might be trapped for hours in traffic at New Pantai Expressway (NPE)PE, LDP (Lebuhraya Damansara-persekutuan) and Federal Highway

these expressway are being used by motorists who are coming from Puchong, Subang USJ, Subang and even Shah Alam towards Petaling Jaya and the city centre

The easier traffic flow may attract more business to the retail mall, hotels, convention centre and the office.

Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) is a wholly-owned Government company established by the Ministry of Finance, set up to facilitate, undertake and expedite public infrastructure projects approved by the Government

Both the LRT, Monorail and bus services are operated by Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd (RapidKL)

COMPARISON OF BRT WITH OTHERS PUBLIC TRANSPORT

a) reduce travelling time b) avoid congestion of traffic made

by buses c) allow buses to operate at a high

level of reliability d) attract tourist to visit our country

without having problem on public transportation

e) allow faster and better connectivity

f) provide eco-friendly bus

ADVANTAGES

Residents groups of PJS9 asked that the elevated pedestrian walkway proposed for Halt 3 along Jalan Lagoon Timur be scrapped as the 300m long walkway connecting PJS7 to the station would invade the privacy of homes and pose a security issue in the area.

If there any parking for private vehicles around the stations along the BRT line.

Sunway residents asked for MRT or LRT but why government propose for BRT project.

BRT buses will have their own lane, thus motorist lane will still be crowded because the road width will be decrease.

Why this BRT line only focus on area of Sunway City and its surrounding.

FEEDBACK

BRT line is one of the solution by government to reduce the congested of traffic in this city under thecalled National Key Result Area (NKRA) to improve public transport system in our country

resident in Sunway City shows some positive responds toward this new implementation of public transport

Rapid development in Sunway City is one of the factor that cause the needed of BRT system in this city
