The simple past tense

Three simple verb tenses in English language:

Simple Present tense.

Simple Past tense.

Simple Future tense.

Simple past and its usage:

Simple past is used to indicate that an activity or situation began and ended at a particular time in the past

Affirmative statement

To make an Affirmative simple past statement, simply follow this pattern:

Subject+main verb in past form

Examples:

•I walked to school yesterday.

•I bought a new car three days ago

•She gave you the book.

Negative statement

To make a negative simple present statement, simply follow the

following pattern:

Subject+did not/didn’t+main verb in base form

Examples:

I walked to school yesterday. I didn’t walk to school yesterday.

I bought a car last week. I didn’t bought a car last week.

She gave you the book. She didn’t give you the book.

Question

To make a question in the simple present, simply follow the following pattern:

Did+subject+main verb in base form

Examples:

I walked to school yesterday. Did I walked to school yesterday?

I bought a car last week. Did I buy a car last week?

She gave you the book. Did She give you the book?
