CONCRETE FLOORS CREATE THERMAL MASS. HEAT IS COLLECTED DURING THE DAY AND RELEASED SLOWLY AT NIGHT TO KEEP THE SPACE WARM. MOST OF THE OFFICE WALLS ARE REPLACED AND FILLED WITH LARGE OPENINGS. THIS WILL LET PEOPLE PASSING THE SITE KNOW WHAT ACTIVITIES HAPPEN WITHIN THE MUD SITE. THERE IS A CLEAR VIEW OF THE DEM- ONSTRATION AREA FROM THE STREET. ONE WALL OF STRAW BALE CONSTRUCTION IS RE- TAINED FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. THE ENTRY TO THE SITE IS A WATER COL- LECTION SYSTEM. STEEL POLES SUPPORT A RECLAIMED GRAIN SILO ROOF. THE ROOF COLLECTS WATER FOR GRAY WATER USE. WATER FROM THE RENOVATED 629 BUILDING IF ROUTED TO THE UNDERGROUND CISTERN BELOW THE ENTRY. SLIDING DOORS ALLOW TOTAL ACCESS TO THE OUTSIDE DEMONSTRATION AREA FROM THE MULTI-USE SPACE. IN WARMER MONTHS MUD CAN HAVE DEMONSTRATIONS THAT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AN INDOOR-OUTDOOR SPACE. THESE LARGE OPENINGS ALSO MAKE THE SPACE FEEL LARGER. THE OPENINGS CREATE A CONNECTION WITH NATURE, CRE- A TING A BETTER INDOOR ENVIRONMENT. STORAGE SPACE IS EXPANDED IN THE TOOL LIBRARY.
