SHEEP AND GOAT WEIGH-IN DATE Market Sheep and Goat Weigh-in will be held
from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5
at the Sioux County Fair Grounds. More infor-
mation to come later!
Please identify your animals properly
In past years we know that you have en-
tered your tag number in 4HOnline with
just the numbers. We had an incident with
IDALS this past year where we needed to
have the letters from the tag also. The ani-
mal had already been marketed and the
family didn’t remember the letters on the
tag. Since we get new tags in every year,
but have old tags left, we two sets of let-
ters on our tags each year. We can guess, but we can’t be positive if you don’t put the letters in the identification.
Swine Identification All swine need to have the USDA tag (as pictured on
the right) or need to have ear notches entered into
4HOnline by May 15th. If you identify your animals
with Swine DNA tags for State Fair, you will also need
the ear notches entered into the identification. IDALS
isn’t recognizing the DNA tags as official.
Derby Swine Weigh-in
Derby Swine Weigh-in will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on April 7 at the Sioux County Fairgrounds. We will
be using USDA tags for the weigh-in. If State DNA tags are available, we will have those at the weigh-in also. If you
have any questions please contact the Extension Office at 712-737-4230.
Watch for specific species rules changes in future newsletters. We will be
featuring a couple of them each month.

Legislative Day and 4-H Public Leadership Experience IECA has planned their annual Legislative Day for Tuesday, February 28 starting at the Wallace Build-ing. Our goal is to have at least three council members and 4-Hers from each county this
year. We encourage you to also invite your local Master Gardeners and other Extension Supporters.
You will be briefed on the issues that will impact ISU Extension and Outreach, find out about upcoming legislation, and learn how to work with your legislators. Then we will spend time on Capitol Hill sharing Extension with the senators and representatives that serve your county. This will be a great opportunity to model public leadership to 4-Hers in your group.
Let’s make an impression! Come wearing red to support ISU Extension. Alternately, you may
wear green to support 4-H.
As a part of our legislative day this year, the association is inviting our senior 4-Hers to receive more infor-mation about the legislative process. 4-Hers from each county will have the opportunity to meet with leg-islators, tour the Capital, and learn about the legislative process and what bearing it has on Iowa State Extension and Outreach. More information is available on the IECA Legislative Day and 4-H Public Lead-ership Experience webpage.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to help ease the morning check-in process. However, we will wel-
come anyone who comes on that day even if they have not yet registered. Register here to attend. You
can download the information flyer to find out more about that day.
