We know that our work contributes to the success of our clients and we are increasing our market share as clients recognise the quality of our work and the professionalism we bring to each project.

Surely a client operating within a sector that exists to give the best possible experience to its customers deserves a supply chain partner that operates in the same manner?

We believe so and our ethos embodies this approach.

Hotels & Leisure

Sharkey have been very active in this sector in recent years, waiting until we had a demonstrable track record in delivery of high quality hotel and leisure projects. In this way we could truthfully discuss our capability in a niche and, at times, complex sector of the construction industry.

Understanding the product, geography and demographic out reach of any particular project is fundamental in delivering the desired end result. Our overriding aim is to meet the objectives of the many stakeholders involved in a hotel & leisure operation with resulting long term commercial success of the facility. We dedicate a front end senior management team to work alongside you in order to capture key business drivers of your project beyond the physical construction requirements.

We want to embrace your aspirations and bring these to the forefront through our representation and conduct on your project.

The devil is in the detail! Cliché or axiomatic? We believe the latter! Whatever procurement route - competitive tender, negotiated, framework - our modus operandi takes us into the key essence of a project. Of course we must respond to the usual construction needs of cost, programme, value adding and value engineering. After all, every project entails someone investing a significant amount of money.

Professional Services

When it comes to unrivalled quality in interior fit out for professional services clients then Sharkey is the contractor of choice. It is testament to our reputation that “word of mouth” is the main source of our business in this sector that covers a varied client base. The professional services clients are generally city centre based and will work within:

• Legal services• Stockbroking• Asset management • Investment services• Energy - oil and gas research - renewables• Insurance• Architectural or engineering services• Pension and wealth management

The projects tend to be “one off” high quality fast track fit outs. Given the nature of the clients their requirements are at the higher specification range and demand the best quality of finishes and manufactured joinery. Excellent communication skills are essential to ensure representatives of our clients are able to clearly communicate with their own team in terms of the construction process. It is for this reason we dedicate a senior member of our management team to projects of this nature. Despite the uniqueness of these projects we recognise our reputation is dependent on our performance on a one off project and the commendations it can bring.

Heritage Buildings

Fettes College

Our Historic Buildings include:

We are truly fortunate in the United Kingdom to have buildings that remind us of our heritage and culture. Travelling through Britain it soon becomes apparent just how remarkable a range of architecture survives from the Norman Conquest onwards. Most villages, towns and cities have a rich mix of buildings dating from different periods celebrating architecture of its time echoing the work of past pioneers in design and construction.

These buildings are rightly protected by local authorities and trusts that value the place they hold in recording historic eras from medieval times through to Art Deco.

Sharkey have worked in a wide range of historic buildings from small refurbishments to multi million pound projects within World Heritage sites. We apply our contemporary construction techniques and expertise with empathy for the building leading to a regenerated end product.

Works to heritage buildings is particularly interesting. It brings traditional trades back in to construction and our carpentry team lead the way with manufacturing that offers both conservation of existing fabric and the production of period works. We have worked in buildings that uncovered stories regarding:

• Archaeologically important findings• A residency for Sir Walter Scott• The history of money

Without doubt our single proudest heritage project is in the world famous Edinburgh Castle forming a new museum for the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards - opened by Her Majesty The Queen.
