2. Locate & open Settings

Preparation
1. Prepare PDA for upgrade
IMPORTANT: Synchronize PDA to send up any changes to the server prior to upgrade
Make a note of your synchronization settings. These can be obtained by clicking on the Setti… button on the Sync screen where you type in your password to sync. o Click the button labeled Setti… o Click Sync Settings o Make a note of all fields shown (Protocol, Host, Port, Path to Service). See the example that follows.
Your values will be slightly or completely different.
Close out screens in BearTracks Mobile until you get to the login screen
o Tap on the Action Button at the bottom of the screen and then select Exit
In some cases, you will also need to set the company proxy server settings in order for the PDA to get to the Internet. If you are unsure you can check an existing, working PDA by doing the following: o On the PDA locate and open the Settings icon (gray gear) o Locate and open the Connections icon o Locate and open the next Connections icon o If the Proxy server section says Edit Proxy Server, then one is set and you need to note the settings
in there. What follows are screenshots of the process of obtaining Proxy Server Settings o If the Proxy server section says Set up my proxy server then you do not have a proxy server set

2. Connect PDA to your PC
The PDA MUST stay connected to the cradle, which charges the PDA during this process
Windows Mobile Device Center should open automatically
In Windows Mobile Device Center, click Connect without setting up your device
3. Download the new BSP (OS) Loader file from Bear River
For the MC55A Model PDA, the new BSP (OS) loader files can be downloaded using the following link: o https://microsite.bearriver.com/CurrentBearTracks/55A0w65HenUL044710.zip
4. Copy the new BSP (OS) Loader files to the PDA
In order to do this, you will need to connect the PDA to a computer that has Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 installed on it.

Copy BSP (OS) Loader to the PDA 1. Using the ZIP file that we downloaded, we need to extract the files to a folder we can find easily. The Desktop is
recommended.
2. Once extracted to the desktop you need to copy the files themselves (not the folder containing the files) to the
PDA’s directory \Temp
3. To access this directory open Windows Mobile Device Center and click on Connect without setting up your
device
4. Then move your mouse to File Management and then click on Browse the contents of your device
5. Locate and open the \ Drive icon

Loading the new BSP (OS) Loader
Now that the loader has been copied to \Temp we need to run the update.

2. Navigate to the Temp directory
o You may have to use the drop down at the top of the screen to change locations to My Device

3. Once in Temp, locate and open the file StartUpLdr.exe o Once opened the PDA will begin the loading process. If using a desktop tool to interact with the PDA (i.e.
MyMobiler) the app will close and the PDA will disconnect from Windows Mobile Device Center.
4. DO NOT remove the PDA from the cradle while this process is running. o Estimated time of completion is 3‐5 minutes. o Interruption of the process can result in a non‐working PDA
5. What follows are example screens of the OS update running and the new boot screen to show the version is installed.

6. Once the PDA reboots you will be asked to calibrate the touch screen using the stylus. 7. IMPORTANT: You will also need to reset the date and time on the PDA once the update is finished as it resets
back to January 2009.
