Introduction: Section 36. ENHANCED POLICIES AND GUIDELINES ON STUDENT AFFAIRS AND SERVICES, The Higher Education Institution shall be encouraged to conduct research on Student Affairs and Services Programs. The students may be involved in the research. 5. Introduction: SGPPA means Students Grant-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation ( SGPPA). SGPPA is a program, in partnership with Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), that provides scholarship assistance to Pantawid Pamily beneficiaries. This aims to contribute to the National Government's desired outcome of poverty alleviation. 6. Introduction: Further, a student - beneficiary is entitled to a maximum of Php 60,000 grant per school year or Php 30,000 per semester for tuition fees. Miscellaneous expenses and cash allowances are also included for educational and support services to sustain their completion of the degree program in exchange to a maintained satisfactory grade.( By Allan O. Lulu posted 22-Jun-2012 ) 7. Objectives : General Objective: to determine the problems and issues confronting the SGPPA scholars of DOSCST as perceived by scholars themselves. 8. Specific objectives: 1.To determine the problems in terms of; a.their studies and academic performance b.adjustment to college environment c.dormitory environment d.food accommodation e.personal needs and finances f. Moral support 9. Specific objectives: 2. To determine the issues encountered by the scholars. 10. Methodology: Research Locale of the Study study was conducted in DOSCST main campus . The respondents of the study were the SGPPA Scholars 2013-14. Respondents of the Study The respondents of the study were the SGPPA Scholars 2013-14. 11. Methodology: The Sampling Method The respondents were determined using the stratified sampling methods. 130 out of 250 SGPPA scholars participated in the survey. 12. Methodology: Research Design Instrument One-shot survey design using interview guide to gather data. Methods of Analysis Data were computed, analyzed and interpreted using percentages and frequency counts. V111.Results and Discussion II. Issue confronting Pantawid Scholars The following results and discussions answer the issues that confronted pantawid scholars. The issues confronting pantawid scholars were generally about the delayed allowance. Their need for early disbursement was very important especially in their project, research and personal needs. 20. V111.Results and Discussion The second issue was on their discrimination from terror instructors and other students; The following are statements from respondents expressing their sentiments along this issue: a). Dapat maging matino rin sila sa amin dahil may buhay rin kami na pueding masaktan, addressed to instructors and other students. b). Allowance naman up to date hindi nila e release. Every other month na lang ang release. Dapat bigay nila yong financial statement every month allowance is released but not full c). Regular students na nanlalait a ang SGPPA scholars daw ay hindi binigyan ng bagsak na grado. At hindi na man totoo. 22. V111.Results and Discussion d).SGPPA- patay gutom-,look down, d-mInamaliit. 4ps. walang utak, palamunin. hampas lupa, patay gutom. e ).Other instructors kay ginalibak pud ang mga scholars.Kabalo sila wa pay allowance sigi pud hatad project. f). Rejected by regular students and even by the mentors. g). 4ps lang kami, walang ikabuga. Siguro nyo na studiante kami nangangailangan ng pera para sa pangbili ng mga project. h). Canteen dili pud itarong ug hugas ang mga plato ug kutsara baho pa ug sabon. Some Canteen crews are unapproachable 23. V111.Results and Discussion m).Instructors told us that it is their money which pay the scholars through their taxes. Nang- insult pa sila minsan n). dapat yong pera naming ginarecord kong asa na paingon para pud makabalo. o). Dili mahatag ang allowance on time. 1 semester nakuha lang namu sa 2 months asa ang 3 months? 24. 1X. Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation Findings; The following were the findings of the study: Pantawid scholars have problems in their studies specifically in their other subjects and English but lesser in their Math. They have problems in their college life and the college physical environment. They have high dormitory adjustment problem: but would like to stay in dorm rather than staying outside dorm. Pantawid scholars have problem in food menu adjustment and food preparation satisfaction; A fourth did not eat on time. Although scholars personal needs were met, their scholarship allowance were not always given on time and were not enough to meet school requirements. Despite majority of scholars having high moral support from immediate family and closed friends, a fourth did not receive less moral support. Pantawid scholars have negative image before other students and before some instructors; Their allowances were not given on time 25. 1X. Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation Based on the finding the following were concluded; 1.Pantawid scholars have more problems in their other subjects including English than Math subjects. 2.They need adjustment to college life including the physical environment. 3.They need adjustment to dormitory life. 4.Pantawid scholars need adjustment to food menu and client satisfaction to food preparation. Timely eating should be addressed 5.There was a delayed in giving of allowance and allowance was not enough to meet their school requirements. 6.There were scholars who received less moral support from family and closed friends. 7.Pantawid scholars were discriminated by some instructors and other students. 26. 1X. Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation Based on the above conclusion, the following are recommended; 1.Intervention be made on subjects specifically on subjects scholars find mal- adjusted. 2.The college should provide program to facilitate easy adjustment to college life including life in dormitory. 3.Canteen should provide feedback mechanism on clientele food service . 4.A seminar on budgeting and financial management be conducted among students. 5.A program and follow up be set up to provide moral support especially among displaced pantawid and other scholars. 6.Negative and discriminatory treatment of pantawid scholars be addressed by the guidance and other offices in charge of the scholars. 7.For future researchers, a continuing research program on the welfare not only of the pantawid and other scholars but students in general be made in order to promote student welfare and harmony. 27.
