Seven Habits Literature Lesson Plans Katelyn Patterson Lesson One: The Habit Hunt This lesson is great for having students find the seven habits in action in a textbook, story of the week, inspirational biography or A N Y text Objective: Have the students locate evidence of each of the seven habits in a text or story. Naterials: sticky notes, pencils, cards for each of the seven habits, text or literary story Teacher Prep: Print and hang the habit cards on the board in a row, low enough for the students to post sticky notes beneath them What to Do: After having read the text aloud to the students split them into pairs or small groups (this works best with 2 students). Give each pair seven sticky notes and have them number the sticky notes 1-7 representing each of the habits. The students will work together and SYNERGIZE to locate each of the seven habits in the text. They will write the evidence for Be Proactiveon sticky number one, Begin with the End in Nindon sticky number two and so on. If the test is the story of the week, allow them to use their books to search for the evidence. As the students fill out the stickies with the evidence have them place the stickies on the board. I usually walk around and monitor to make sure the groups are working well together and provide any additional assistance. When all groups are done or time is up, have the students come to the carpet area and go through each of the habits and the stickies. Its fun to see what different and creative answers the groups come up with! Real Talk: I love to use this lesson with our weekly Reading Street story. It allows my students practice in truly seeing the seven habits in everything. Its a quick activity that is sure to be a good time.
