September | 2019 Finally we had a cruise-in that was not HOT! We had a great turn out and it was a beautiful day. We had a few new members join the club. Jim and Erina helped us out by selling the 50/50 tickets. They sold $256.00 worth of tickets. Erina’s friend Jennifer won $128.00 and Manny took the Cumbee Center the other $128.00. Thanks to everyone who helped us set up and tear down, it goes so much easier with help. Our cruise-in times have changed, they will be 2-4 from November to April, then May is our Spring Fling, then we are back to 4-6. Bethcar Baptist Church’s Fall Festival was fun as usual. Thanks to Pete and Kay Bodie and all the church members for inviting us out again. I really enjoy the family time I get to spend with my grandkids having so much fun. The food was good also along with all of the great desserts. The cake walk was fun and crowded, lol. Ann, Beth, and Shannon won a loaf of bread and of course I won the very last one a wonderful pound cake. My grandson Zander snuck away from his Pappy and ran up to where I was and did the last walk with me, he was my good luck charm. Once again Aiken Horsepower has been invited ot the Western Carolina Antique Tractor Pull and Show on November 30th from 9 – 2 or until you are ready to leave, it is a cruise-in. The show is put on by Aiken Antique Power Association and Palmetto Tractor Club. There will also be dvendors at the show. Keep on rollin’! Finally we had a cruise-in that was not HOT!

HOTTEST COLLECTIBLE CARS AND TRUCKS YOU CAN BUY

12. 1987-93 BMW 325i Convertible: BMW’s 3 Series honed its enviable reputation as the industry’s premier compact luxury/sports model in the late 1980’s, with the convertible version being particularly appealing. Hagerty says, “The (higher performance) M3 is well past ‘affordable’ by now, but the six-cylinder 325i convertible can still be bought with a credit card.” You may have to look hard to find one fitted with a manual, however, as most 328i ragtops came with an automatic transmission. 1987 versions start at $8,500.

11.1966-67 Alfa Romeo Giulia Duetto Spider: The car in this slideshow with the longest name is a classic Italian ragtop. As with the other models in this group collectible autos insurer Hagerty has named it one of its favorite vintage convertibles, both for summer fun and long term appreciation. Like many European sports cars of its era, the Alfa was nimble like few other cars on the road; Hagerty calls it, “An affordable taste of ‘La Dolce Vita’.” 1966 versions start at $25,700.

10. 1985-1989 Toyota MR2:The two-seat “Mister Two” was one of the hottest little sports cars during the 1980s for its lively performance and affordable sticker price. Hagerty says used Toyota MR2 values have risen by 25%, but they remain within reason, with clean examples still going for less than $15,000.

9. 2004-2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI:Hagerty says this turbocharged rally-car appeals to car fans that grew up driving a virtual version in video games like “Need for Speed.” They sold in few numbers, which makes older WRX STi models had to find, but this helps preserve their value. A 2004 model with average miles in good shape sells for around $12,000.

8. 1984-93 Saleen Mustang:Steve Saleen has been tweaking Ford Mustangs since the early 1980s for those who find the stock models to be too sedate. Essentially street-legal racers, they may not be easy to find, but Hagerty says this generation of Saleens is worth the effort, especially in that they’re not priced much higher than standard Mustang GT of the same vintage.

7. 1997-2004 Porsche Boxster:Perhaps by custom, it seems every list of top collectible cars includes at least one Porsche, and this one is no exception. However, unlike rare Porsche 911s, used Boxter’s are still relatively cheap. Hagerty says an astute shopper can enjoy open-air enjoyment in a used Boxster for around $15,000 or less.

FOR SALE:1965 Chevrolet Caprice, all original (California car I transported it here myself when we retired here to Aiken). I purchased it from what I believe was the original owner’s estate. 327 c.i., 4 bbl. strong motor, 68,000 miles, no rust or damage, original silver blue color, but faded, beautiful interior, automatic, power steering, power brakes, radio with rear speaker, tilt steering wheel. The Caprice first came out in the spring of 1965, as a mid-year introduction. This is the very first edition. I am willing to include the stainless fender skirts, along with a painted spare pair. I will also include a perfect set of original “wire” spinner hubcaps (now worth $500), in addition to the rare original flippers (almost impossible to find—they are like SS caps but with a Caprice crest). This car can be driven anywhere. If I were to keep it, I would renew the brakes and body rubber. If interested contact Dr. William Scar at (310) 487-7236 or (803) 643-1886
