Hello Division 04 North!

I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are ready for the school year to start! As we otters work hard in our studies, we will never forget to serve and be spirited all the time!

I want every club to continue to strive this month to fundraise for Pediatric Trauma Program and serve our communities. Remember our goal is 50 hours of service per member till District convention in April 2014 and to raise $4000 for PTP by Fall Rally!

If you have any questions, concerns, or need someone to talk to, I am always here to be your otter half. We are all here to support each other so don't be afraid to ask. All of my contact information is included on eevry agenda and you are welcome to even message me on facebook. Thank you for all the wonderful summer and let's get started on the golden school year! Sincerely,

PAST DCM/ DIVISION SPORTS DAY

The division got together for a monthly Divi-sion Council Meeting on July 20th, at Mile Square Park. We discussed future events, such as Beach Boomba, the next DCM, and the Division Dance. The most notable part of the meeting was the goal hangers. They were a creative way of outlining the ob-jectives of the year both for the Division and for indi-vidual clubs. For La Quinta, our main concerns were membership increase, retention, and bonding. These issues arose in the goal hangers of other clubs as well. As for the Division, many of us hope to win the spirit stick at Fall Rally and bond more with other clubs in the division. After that we teamed up with our bud-dy clubs to compete in the games of the Sports Day. We wrapped members in tissue paper, balanced eggs on spoons, and other team games. It gave us a chance to bond with the division through friendly competition. I really believe that the division sports day was a great idea and wonderfully executed. We had good representation from every school in the divi-sion, even with the less active clubs! The sports day was a great event that will hopefully be the precedent for future DCMS and division events.

SWAT TRAINING On July 24th, I had experience one of the craziest events of my life. When I had just arrived at Bolsa Grande, I expected another average training; but what I got was much more. Not only did they add special effects to make everyone look like injured civilians, they created a real-life scenario of a criminal attack. Guns were shot, ambulances were rushing, people are screaming: these were what you heard during the training. However that was only the first part. After the SWAT were able to rescue the civilians, ev-eryone had to play as hostages. After several attempts to negotiate, they had not choice to break in. At the end of the day, my whole club was saying that they did not expect it to be this realistic. Although it was frightening at first, they told me that it was one of the best events that we ever had.

CAR WASH FOR PTP On July 28th, our club hosted a free car wash in hopes of reaching our goal of $100 for PTP. We had members pick be-tween shifts of three hours or they could stay the whole time. Surprisingly many members stayed for the whole six-hours and I know that all the officers are very thankful for that. Our buddy club, Santiago came and supported us for the whole time too. The day started off pretty slow, we had few cars come but it got busier closer to the afternoon. A very nice man donated $10 for the cause without having us wash his car. We had many par-ents and members come to support us and before we knew it we reached our goal of $100. I know that our club will host an-other car wash in the future because it is a good way to fundraise and it is also very fun. By the end of the day we made over $200 just from donations. It was a very successful event in my opinion.
