Tagore has always invoked a sense of awefor me as that it reminds me of the Indianpolymath and Nobel Prize winnerRabindranath Tagore [0]. I t is also wonderfulthat the roads around that area that is part ofthe Teachers Estate are all named afterl iterary great poets as Tagore, MunshiAbdullah1 [1 ], Li Po[2], Tu Fu[3], and Iqbal [4].

The run that was organized at the TagoreDrive by Condom and Karanguni was in manyways a great poetic dance with nature. Westarted the run by crossing over to a steepincl ine that brought the pack to an open trackthat led to a T-check. On backtracking, wefound our way into the thick growth thatexpresses the trai ls of a early struggle offinding one's way through life.

The Tagore Lore

Before long,we exited the forest andwere back on the open track that slowlylead us down to the brook that wasemptying the waters that were capturedin the forest from whence we got out of.

The ground was a nice mixture of moisture(and copious amounts of it) and vegetationthat offered what is joy to the hearts ofhashmen - shiggy in it's ful l glory.That brook went on for a while unti l i tdrained into the drainage below the SeletarExpressway.How fitting it is for the Seletar HHH to betickl ing the underbelly of the SLE.

The exit of the drainage brought the pack smack into a fi lthy, garbage choked sorryexcuse of a brook. I t is a pity that we have such fi lth in the drainage system, and wemust do all we can to eliminate this scourge.Navigating this stretch was clearly lots of fun and I must say it was the highl ight of therun. There were really soft and sinky portions, but the long grasses certainly helpedwith keeping ones balance and not having to take an unexpected dive.

Before long, we reached the end of that watery trek to get back on to the dry, boringroad. That trek continued to the side of canal that drains into the Lower SeletarReservoir. I t was a good straight stretch to help dry out the shoes. I could see the runsite from afar, but the hares, in keep with the poetic twists of great poems, decided totake a detour and went through part of Teachers Estate and brought us to a mostwelcome drink stop hosted by the hares. I did not spend too much time at the drinkstop as it was getting darker and I did not have by trusty flash l ight with me.

I got quickly underway and the trai lsoon ended up in yet another brookand a final wetting of the shoes /feet before final ly getting up a steepand slippery slope on to Tagore roadand thence on to home.

I t was a great run, has all thehallmarks of a Run Of TheYear, except that the hares arenot regulars.Their saving grace was theircol l ie/consultant, Sticky Tissue,who did a spendid job inhelping guide the hares.I am sure the poets of yorewould have written a greatrhyme in praise of the run, butthis report is my humblecontribution.On On

This run brought back great memories of past wetruns as the last time we ran through so much waterwas the Chinamen Run 201 2 in nearby Springleaf.Also, for the first time in over a year, I had to use atorchl ight as this was a long and difficult run.Only negatives . . . I t could be shorten by avoiding theextra loop after Lentor ( First runner exceeded 75minutes ) and the drink stop stal l closed too early.

ON ON TO THEMAKAN

RUN 1959 14 JUNE 2016

Close to 50members came forthis special runorganized by '59babies GHANDU*,KRETAPI , NEVERCOME* and OILYCOCK.. .( * OFFICIAL HARES )

. . . and for many ofus, it's hashing onvirgin grounds, at alocation, we havenever been before.

As this is an orchid farm, it was appropriatethat the run starts off in the nursery, wherewe quickly hit a T-Check.We had to search rows of cultivated orchidhybrids before final ly finding the arrow whichled us out of the farm and into a drain.

There were somewho chose not toenter the drain,wandering off,hoping for a shortcut to a drink stop.

The drain's exit wasn't far and itquickly led to a drink stop.1 5 minutes on the run, this must bethe earl iest hash drink stop set up,but who is complaining ?

After the punch (alcohol bit weak, but OK as weneeded to run), we went on the side of a drain,off Lim Chu Kang Lane 6C, when there wasanother T-Check. Despite being ful ly sober, wecould not find any clues (hare claimed papermust have been removed by a rival orchid farm).

Fortunately, SKINNY by instinct (and he knowshis ABCs) took off by himself and ran downLane 6D. After 300m of running without anyclues, with the whole pack fol lowing him blindly,SKINNY spotted KRETAPI 's car. . . . we (or ratherthe hares) were saved !

We found the OILY 'beer on tap' stop, where wewere also given a jungle hat as souvenir.

The jungle hatwas a greatgift as wesoon entereda jungle and itsoon startedto rain.

We spentsome time inthe shiggyjungle beforethe exit atLane 6F (A,B& E missing).

Here there was a another drinkstop with more alcohol added.

The way home was via a short cut to Lim ChuKang Lane 6.With the multiple drink stops, it was anenjoyable run and we could even getused to the smells of Lim Chu Kang.

All set for a great evening

I t was a relatively short run of 5.5 km and even with themultiple drink stops, FRBs could return in sl ightly overan hour.As it was a potential ROTY and we appreciated theefforts put in by the hares, we accepted theirexplanation of the missing clues after the T-Check( rival orchid farm sabo them by removing paper ).

Many of our younger members, beingcity boys, are not famil iar with ulu kang.They behaved badly.

They stumble on many junglecreatures on their run andnever break checks.

As HASH WHISPERER recorded very l ittle, except " GOOD RUN, GOOD JOB ,

ROTY ", I wil l give a summary of the positive & negative aspects of the run.

LOCATIONSome complained that therun site was inaccessible viapublic transport and otherswho drove had difficultyreaching without GPScoordinates.The run site was reclaimedat the time of our birth as theEast Coast Reclamationstarted in Bedok in 1 966 andcompleted in Tg Rhu in1 986. Carpark was free,there was privacy, nicebreeze and a great view.

MARKINGSUsing biodegradable toi letpaper only was good anduseful to pick-up Sol's poop.However, on the home trai lin the park, clues weremissing or paper removedby NParks. Helpful if Chalkwas used here.

RUNI t was a good run as thehares did a great job for arun in this area. Theymanaged to make ful l use ofwhatever shiggy andforested grounds they couldfind. What it lacks was adrink stop and instead wewere given T-Shirts halfwayon the run. Thirsty, we had tocomplete the 2nd half of therun carrying our T-Shirthome.

VERDICTOverall , as positivefeedback overwhelmedthe negatives, it wasdeclared a GOOD RUN .

RUN 1962 28 JUNE 2016 DEMPSEY HILL

From the carpark near Saint George'sChurch, the trai l led us to HollandRoad, before crossing over to the newTyersall Avenue.

This new Tyersall Avenue was opened only in January this year, after the BotanicGardens was expanded by taking over a 9.8ha plot of state land across the oldTyersal l Avenue. I t was lucky that even after the expansion, there were sti l l some'jungle' left for our hashing pleasure.

Following cluesincluding thispontianak bananatree, we were ledto a spookydeserted mansion.

I f the run was done in the reverse direction,the slow ones could have ended here in thedark and perhaps get an 'Out-of-this-world'experience.As it was sti l l early, the hares could havelaid some paper inside Woodneuk formembers to explore or even set up a drinkstop, so we may enjoy some ' Nikka spirit '.

This majestic mansion was built by Sultan Abu Bakar in 1 890 and it seems thatthe thick overgrown vegetated land surrounding it, sti l l belongs to the Sultan ofJohor ( probably why it could not be included in the Botanic Gardens expansion ).Exiting at Holland road, publicity seeking members got distracted and posed forphotos . . . Did the hares led us to tresspass onto forbidden premises ?

From Holland Road, we went to Queensway,then crossed over to go up Holland Hil l .Going up to the end of Holland Hil l , the trai ll ike previous runs in this vacinity, decendeddown to the Commonwealth Crescent areaand to the Hakka Cemetery ( another phototaking opportunity ).

Nearby the hip and bustl ing Holland Vil lage and in the middle of HDB flats, l ies acemetery with nearly 3,000 graves.Hares are fond of setting runs through here, as sooner or later, development wil lforce this Hakka Cemetery to close.

Crossing back Queensway, we made our way back to Dempsey Hil l passing thisfamil iar landmark. We had many runs in Dempsey and never a Durian Stop !( Hint, Hint, Wink. Wink )

The run was 7.6 kmand would take arunner around an hourto complete if they donot stop too manytimes for photographsand selfies or getdistracted by MountainCats and divert to thedurian stal l .

I f this report is accurate ( Had to scribe although I could not make it for this greatrun ), I hope the hares wil l give me their unusual, rarely seen brown color, SHHHsouvenir T-Shirt ( XL SIZE please. . . Hint, Hint, Wink, Wink ).
