AZ DIAMOND at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Mesa.

An enthusiastic, high-energy crowd welcomed back Neil Diamond Tribute Band, AZ Diamond with open arms during a nostalgic Sunday afternoon performance this past weekend. AZ Diamond performed all the classic Neil Diamond hits that have remained popular through the years this matinee show within the cozy confines of the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Mesa, Arizona. From the moments the curtains lifted and the band took stage, it was clear this audience was in store for a truly memorable performance, one that would prove to reflect the same magic and charisma that has made Neil so popular over the years. The sold out audience was not a shy one - and certainly didn’t take long to get warm, moving and singing along. Nearly word for word, without a care in the world - hands were clapping, heads were bobbing and arms were swaying as the band performed timeless Neil Diamond hits such as “Forever in Blue Jeans,” “September Morning,” “Kentucky Woman,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” “Hello Again,” “Solitary Man,” “Desiree,” “Cherry Cherry,” “Thank The Lord For The Nighttime,” “Sweet Caroline” and many more. The high-energy band led by vocalist Eddie Kij, along with his hand-picked band of professional musicians, have clearly worked extra hard to win the hearts of their fans, almost perfectly replicating the precise glitter and vocals of the legendary Neil Diamond himself. – Jeff Haugen

MATT & BEN Class 6 Theatre at Mesa Arts Center

You want Matt Damon and Ben Affleck like you’ve never seen them before? Starring in the story of their lives! And funny too! Then head straight to the Mesa Arts Center for this original and comedic look at the brilliant minds behind Good Will Hunting. Directed by Eric Schoen of Class 6 Theatre, and starring no less - Kristina Rodgers as Matt, and Mallory Adams as Ben. These two talented actresses, who capture the quirkiness and hilarity of these two pizza loving lowballers from Boston, are just what Hollywood ordered. But how did we come to this cross dressing couple in the middle of Mesa? Pure Shakespeare and dramatic license - the perfect disguise for satire and character study. But you’ll love the best moments which include singing, fighting, a magical script, and of course a visit from someone real famous…but you’ll have to experience Matt and Ben yourself to see the real ending. Through February 20th. Tickets 480-644-6500 or class6theatre.org

DON QUIXOTE Ballet Arizona at Symphony Hall

There were no black swans at the Ballet Arizona production of Don Quixote this past weekend. Instead the Phoenix faithful were treated to a Valentine’s special with a lively, humorous and entertaining production of Don Q from Ib Anderson and company. The Choreography, Music, Scenery, Costumes, and of course the dancers themselves, were top shelf again. With civility and romance in short supply, IB’s production once again struck a beautiful chord of love and hope. Kudos to all the company for a ‘dream’ come true! The new 2011-12 season has been announced for Ballet Arizona! Go to Balletaz.org to see what’s in store for the new season.

JOSHUA BELL at Mesa Arts Center

The master violin virtuoso and popular celebrity star Joshua Bell floored his loyal following with a stunning performance last weekend at the Mesa Arts Center. One can see now why so many fans love and adore his music and concerts. He is truly an entertainer extraordinaire! Let’s hope he returns for an encore show soon! Check out the lineup of coming shows at the MesaArtsCenter.org

Silver Screen Scoop!

By Joseph J. Airdo

After having premiered an art instal-lation titled “Three’s Company: A Drama” at last month’s Sundance Film Festival in which the first three episodes of the 70’s sitcom were giv-en a dramatic makeover and screened in a re-creation of the characters’ living room, James Franco has been contacted by the estate which owns the show’s rights about developing a “Three’s Company” feature film and off-Broadway play.

Be among the first to get the latest ‘scoop’ from Joseph J. Airdo at Examiner.com, where you can also watch Atomic Tom’s “Don’t You Want Me” music video in which the cast of “Take Me Home Tonight,” in theaters March 4, recreates scenes from 80’s movies.

Director D.J. Caruso finds perfect cast for ‘I Am Number Four’

Interview by Joseph J. Airdo

Director D.J. Caruso knows that casting is one of the most important pieces of the filmmaking process, especially when developing a fantasy flick with the potential of becoming the next big film franchise.

However, Caruso believes whole-heartedly that he got it right with the cast of “I Am Number Four.” Alex Pettyfer stars as an alien fugitive with extraordinary abilities, one of nine living on Earth, who poses as an ordinary teenager in the hope of evading those sent to kill him.

“I really loved the fact that Alex was this strong, sort of dynamic, matinee-

idol-looking character,” Caruso explains. “But the most important element was that he was vulnerable. He had sort of this great vulnerability and he had the ability to make you doubt that he can pull this off.”

And no one doubted that more than Pettyfer himself, who admits to tell-ing Caruso during his audition that he was simply incapable of playing the lead character in “I Am Number Four.”

“He’s such a vulnerable character and you want to root for him and I didn’t feel like anyone would root for me to play this guy,” Pettyfer explains. “I really wanted that feeling of the real-ity as is. This guy has been given this essential power to save what he now calls home, Earth, and I just didn’t feel like I could make that believ-able.”

However, Caruso was quick to disagree with Pettyfer, eventually convincing the actor that he was the perfect performer to stand center stage in “I Am Number Four.”

‘Cedar Rapids’ ~ Direc-tor Miguel Arteta talks shooting ‘Rapids’

Interview by Stan Robinson

My experience working on film proj-ects of more than 20 years has one common factor; the overall ‘aura’ sur-rounding a movie being filmed often reflects the theme of the story. A seri-ous drama has those overtones, while a comedy is usually more upbeat.

And frequently, the location is a big part of the overall climate establish-ing the tone. Director Miguel Artera’s latest has the central story taking place at a convention for insurance representatives, with the principle lo-cation taking place at the hotel where the agents are staying.

Asking Miguel if the location was a factor for ‘Cedar Rapids’, “Absolutely” he exuberantly responded! “Since we would be shooting the greater majority of the film with a story that takes place at a hotel, the cast and the crew were housed at the hotel which would be used also as our sets, with the cast and crew spending an awful lot of time together, as the shoot progressed, so did the aspects of character intertwining relative to the story!”

Read more of my interview with direc-tor Miguel Artera as he talks about the extremely valuable insight that his cast of actors contributed to the theme of workers coming together to guide the shy and introverted Tim Lippe (Ed Helms) to succeed exclu-sively online at ScreenScene.org and Examiner.com

Stan Robinson’s and Joseph J. Airdo’s full reviews exclusively online.

Stan Robinson (ScreenScene.org):

Joseph J. Airdo (Examiner.com): “As one of the more accessible fantasy/science-fiction flicks released for the younger demographic of moviegoers, ‘I Am Number Four’ is quite the ac-celerating adventure. And you cannot say that the movie lacks a payoff as its finale is nothing short of grand.” Grade: B

Reviewers’ Roundup: ‘Cedar Rapids’

Three veteran attendees (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whit-lock Jr.) guide a sheltered insurance agent (Ed Helms) through a life-altering weekend at an Iowa conven-tion. (R – 87 minutes)

The following quotes were pulled from reviews written by AZ Weekly’s Film! contributors to present readers with a wider perspective about this new release. Read Stan Robinson’s and Joseph J. Airdo’s full reviews exclusively online.

Stan Robinson (ScreenScene.org): “Director Miguel Artera who gave us ‘Youth in Revolt’ starring Michael Cerna and the off-center view in 2009, this time presents the diverse personality types one experiences in the work place, no matter what field. With a look at the eccentricities’ of a milieu of white collar workers in the insurance industry of a small town in

Iowa, ‘Cedar Rapids’ is quite appeal-ing in its quirkiness’! Grade: B-

Joseph J. Airdo (Examiner.com): “Al-though ‘Cedar Rapids’ provides an excuse to enjoy the comedic talents of its stellar cast – especially that of Ed Helms – its conventional story prevents director Miguel Artera from achieving greatness. However, the movie is still worth seeing if only for its eccentric view of naivety.” Grade: C

Reviewers’ Roundup: ‘Immigration Tango’

After running out of legal options, a Russian immigrant (Elika Portnoy) and her Colombian boyfriend (Carlos Leon) switch partners with an Ameri-can couple (McCaleb Burnett and Ashley Wolfe) so that they can get green cards. (R – 90 minutes)

The following quotes were pulled from reviews written by AZ Weekly’s Film! contributors to present readers with a wider perspective about this new release. Read Stan Robinson’s and Joseph J. Airdo’s full reviews exclusively online.

Stan Robinson (ScreenScene.org): “The basic theme of ‘Immigration Tango’ presents a look at the familiar practice of marrying to stay in the US. Although the performances vary from sequence to sequence between believability and cliché’ caricatures’, there’s enough interest to want to see it all payout with some moments that will elicit a chuckle or two”. Grade: C-

Joseph J. Airdo (Examiner.com): “What begins with a uniquely clever setup quickly falls victim to bad act-ing and a laughable screenplay in which any and all romantic attach-ment feels forced. Moreover, ‘Immi-gration Tango’ seems determined to present itself in the most cartoonish way imaginable, settling for common cultural stereotypes.” Grade: D

AZ CENTRAL BEST BREAKFAST 2010 !!!

Although many beer festivals are held each year in Arizona, none delivers year in and year out as consistently as the Strong Beer Festival. Put on every year by the Arizona Brewers Guild, this year the festival promises to outdo itself. This year the festival is the official kickoff event for the inaugural Arizona Beer Week and you better believe that the brewers are coming with their best stuff. February 19th at 1:00 PM is when the festivities start and the location is Steele Indian School Park at 300 East Indian School in Phoenix, a short walk off the light rail stop.

Take a look at some of the offerings from local brewers: Papago Brewing is bringing their 10th Anniversary Rye Barleywine, their limited release Hop Tamale, Bucket Hugger Imperial Stout and single hop series Hopago IPA, among others. SanTan Brewing is offering Night of The Living Red, VOLTRON Collaboration Imperial Red Ale, and Sex Panther Chocolate Barleywine. From the folks at Sonoran look for Inebriator Stout, Beer Week Double Red and a limited release of the critically acclaimed Sonoran 200. Thunder Canyon in Tucson, a perennial medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, makes the trip north with Big Red Vibe, Old Humulus, Bing Bang Ale and Orange U Glad. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Bing Bang so that should be a treat. And there will be plenty more. The out of town brewers decided they had to step up their game as well. So look for The Bruery Mischief, Moylan’s Barrel Aged Grand Cru and Barrel Aged Scotch

Ale, Ska Merlot Stout and the extremely rare Dementia, The Lost Abbey Mongo IPA, Serpents Stout and Angels’ Share, Left Hand Wake Up Dead in a Barrel, Great Divide Grand Cru, Troubadour Magma, Petrus Aged Pale Ale, Crispin Desert Noir (an unfiltered cider with prickly pear and agave nectar aged in a barrel, created especially for Arizona Beer Week), Breckenridge TWENTY, Big Sky Belgian Strong Cherry Golden Ale, Ballast Point Big Eye and Barmy Ale, and Anderson Valley Brother David’s Triple and Imperial IPA. This is just a small sampling of the 165 plus beers that can be found on the grounds of the event.

Last year’s concerns about food have been erased; look for plenty of food vendors which should eliminate the lines from last year. Great live music rounds out the day. If you’re looking for some early morning sustenance to build a little base before the event, several of the area brewpubs and restaurants will be offering a kegs and eggs beer brunch. The closest to the festival will be Sun Up Brewing at 322 E Camelback, also convenient to the light rail. They will be starting at 8:00 AM.

Strong Beer Festival is going to be one of the most talked about Arizona beer events of the year so you do not want to miss it. There is still time to get advance tickets for just $35 at http://www.showclix.com/event/17092/. See you there.

LOCAL BREWERS PREPPED AND READY FOR BEER WEEK

Here we are, the last AZ Weekly before Arizona Beer Week. So what makes Beer Week, Beer Week? It’s the hard work of the local brewers who are the basis for the growing beer culture we have in Arizona. The sponsor for Beer Week is the Arizona Brewers Guild. The Guild is made up of Arizona breweries along with allied members and its mission is to support local brewing efforts. Many Guild members will be producing a special double red ale for Beer Week. Look for special tappings at the Strong Beer Festival and throughout the week. The 29 brewer members will be very active during Beer Week, so let’s take a look at what some of them are up to.

Papago Brewing will be featuring events at their establishment located at 7107 E. McDowell in Scottsdale as well as away from their location. Check out their Sunday night Cheese and Beer Pairing event at Cheuvront on Central in Phoenix, or their Wednesday night Vegetarian Beer Dinner at Atlas Bistro right up Scottsdale road from the pub. If you want to see what’s going on at the brewery, Tuesday night will be CANdemonium starting at 6:00 PM. SKA Brewing, Big Sky Brewing and Breckenridge will be offering their canned beers that evening. For Breckenridge, it will be the official introduction of the canned version of Avalanche and Lucky U IPA. Wednesday night while the vegetarian din-ner is going on up the street, Papago gets to the meat of great beer by hosting a New Belgium event featuring kegs of La Folie as well as a couple of other beers from the Lips of Faith line. Thursday night look for Anderson Valley to be in the house with Sean Jackson, former brewer and

one of the most fluent speakers of Boontling in the world. Boontling is a special language developed long ago by Boonville residents and it is incredibly interesting to hear spoken. Finally on Friday night, check out Night of the Barrels featur-

SanTan Brewing will also be active home and away. Daily events at the pub include Sunday’s Brews Cruise held in conjunction with SKA Brew-ing. Bring your bike and hit four great locations. $20 gets you lunch and your choice of a SKA or SanTan beer at each location. Monday will be their Manless Monday event with Arizona Girls Pint Out, Tuesday is Taste the Difference night featuring a Beer and Wine dinner with Arizona Stronghold wines. Outside the pub, look for a great event at Taste of Tops on Thurs-day as it is a local tap takeover…24 tap handles, all of them local beers. Friday night, SanTan keeps the spirit of cooperation going as they pair up with Left Hand Brewing for an event at Flanny’s in Tempe. This night will feature various beer blends and will be a fun time.

Sun Up Brewing hosts one of the first events of the week as they will have a Beer Brunch starting at 8:00 AM on Saturday February 19th. With a breakfast menu and some special beers, it is the perfect way to warm up for the Strong Beer Festival that afternoon. And if you over indulge at the Strong Beer Festival stop by on Sunday for their hangover cure with Posole and $2.00 tostadas…and if you’re a fan of “hair of the dog” then it will be Happy Hour all day. Every night there will be a special keg tapped and Monday will be a pin of Barleywine, Tuesday will be a guest German beer for German Brewers Night (I will give you a hint, it’s one of brewmaster Uwe Boer’s favorite beers), Thursday will be a special bar-rel of Aged Scotch Ale, Friday is Cask Aged Cherry Vanilla Imperial Stout and Saturday will be the Double Rye Black IPA, that’s a mouthful. These kegs will go fast so get there early. Also, on Wednesday night, Sun Up will team up with Crispin Ciders for a special Girls Pint Out event.

Sonoran Brewing, despite not having their own pub, will be out and about. Look for them at Main Ingredient at 7th Street and Sheridan on Monday

night for a special event. Sonoran and Tucson entry Thunder Canyon will also be featured at a variety of Drink Local events going on through-out the Valley next week.

Beer Week will bring out a real sense of cooperation between local brewer-ies as well as out of state ones, as you may have noticed from the schedule. This is especially noticed by the col-laborative beer named Voltron. Much like the Saturday morning cartoon, where five robotic lions joined up to create an even more powerful entity capable of saving the universe, Votron the beer is a collaborative effort be-tween the five Arizona breweries men-tioned above. Each brewery created their Beer Week double red ale, and then it was blended to form Voltron. This is a once in a lifetime beer and will be available at the Strong Beer Festival, at the contributor pubs and at a very few select accounts through-out the state.

Perhaps the most collaborative event of the whole week will be the Epi-curiad to be held on Friday night at Firesky Resort in Scottsdale. This charity event, benefitting the Beer For Brains Foundation will feature 10 of the top chefs in Arizona, including Beau MacMillan and Aaron May, working with six different Arizona breweries and five local wineries to match a dish with both the beer and wine. Which chef can do the best job with that challenge? Will wine be the preference of the crowd, or will beer emerge victorious? $75 gets you into this premiere event. For details go to www.thebeerforbrainsfoundation.org.

This is only a small sampling of what local breweries are doing for Beer Week. There will be over 150 events going on and some people are taking a week of vacation to do as many as possible. Whether it’s a beer dinner, a beer sampling, a special tapping or just going out to have a couple of craft beers with friends, make sure you do your part and get out there to partici-pate. See you around…maybe we can have a beer together.

Nectar Brewery promo this week Thursday the 10th from 7 to 9pm.

Lost Leaf 914 N. 5th Street, PhoenixTwo great looking events here. Stop in on Tues-day evening from 8:00 – 10:00 for a very special tasting of La Trappe beers. La Trappe is one of only seven Trappist breweries in the world and now have their whole line available in Arizona. A special treat for attendees will be the very rare Oak Aged Quadrupel. Only three cases of this special beer made it to Arizona. On Wednesday night, Zak from Shmaltz Brewing will be on hand for a special tasting of the Coney Island products.

The Garage1534 E. Bethany Home, PhoenixThis exciting new restaurant features only six taps but all are winners. It’s beer week every week at the bar here. But they have a couple of pretty good events lined up for the Beer Week. Wednesday night Sean Jackson from Anderson Valley Brewing Company will be on hand to chat about beer. On Thursday night, Breckenridge Brewing comes to The Garage in the form of the Mayor of LoDo, Todd Thibault. Tebo, as he is known, will be on hand as part of the Bar Hopping With Breckenridge night. The third stop will be The Garage. The Garage will also offer a daily food and beer special for just $10.

Flannies1805 E. Elliot Road, TempeFlannies always has great beer on tap, but Friday night will be a classic event. SanTan Brewing partners with Left Hand Brewing for a beer blend-ing extravaganza. Join representatives from both breweries as they go through a variety of blending options.

Rico’s at the Pointe7677 N. 16th Street, PhoenixThis longtime favorite is a great place for a beer on the patio and will is taking advantage of its great beer selection along with their amazing food by offering a beer and food pairing selection daily.

Moto6845 N. 16th Street, PhoenixMoto doesn’t have a lot of events going on, but with what they are bringing to the table, they don’t need to. They will be the last stop on the Bar Hopping with Breckenridge night on Thursday. So, a rare opportunity to see Tebo from

Breckenridge in our fair city should be enough. Friday night will make you forget all about that as Moto hosts The Big IPA Event starting at 4:00. Curt from Ballast Point will be the feature brewery as he offers Sculpin IPA, Dorado Double IPA and Tongue Buckler Imperial Red, but there is plenty more. Expect one of the last kegs of Bell’s Hopslam to be on tap along with Moylan’s Hop-sickle and Port Brewing Hop 15. Rounding out the hops will be a rare keg of Redstone Meadery’s Nectar of the Hops.

Roosevelt Tavern 816 N. 3rd Street, PhoenixThis bar has slowly become one of the best beer bars in town and they will be proving it during Beer Week. They have several events going on but Sunday night will be special. Lost Abbey will be in the house and who knows what kind of special beer that might bring?

Original Wineburger6027 N. 19th Avenue, PhoenixIf you haven’t checked out the Original Wine-burger’s craft beer selections in a while, this is the week to do so. All week long they will be featur-ing a $9.25 burger and beer selection.

Tavern on MillThink of Mill Avenue in Tempe and you have to think about Tavern on Mill. They were the first bar in the Valley to feature Left Hand Milk Stout on the nitro tap and they continue to be a leader. This time they are leading off the closing event of Beer Week. Sneaking in an event on Sunday the 27th, the Beers in the Hood event will give you a chance to work off your Beer Week excess consumption. Bring your bike and start at Tavern on Mill, ride to Boulders on Broadway, then to Taste of Tops and finish up at Crave. If you drove your bike to Tempe, go ahead and have a little dinner when you get back to Tavern on Mill to pick up your car. The fun starts at Noon.

The Main Ingredient2337 N. 7th Street, PhoenixPlenty of great beer and food at this instant classic on 7th Street. Matt and Courtney Diamond have done their job in putting together great beer, wine and food. On Sunday night, it’s Sonoran Brewing Night. Look for great Sonoran Beer and the folks from the brewery will be on hand as well.

Good For You Hot Fudge Sauce by Chef Rachel Albert

Not just for Valentine’s Day, hot fudge sauce makes topping for fresh or frozen bananas, freshly sliced peaches,

nectarines, berries, poached pears, ice cream, frozen yogurt, or dairy free frozen desserts, any time of year. Un-fortunately, many commercial sauces contain hazardous corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, refined vegetable oils, hydrogenated fats, and other ingredients that can undermine your health.

But don’t despair. You can make a healthier version at home in four easy steps. This recipe comes from The Ice Dream Cookbook: Dairy Free Ice Cream Alternatives with Gluten-Free Cookies, Compotes, and Sauces written by me, Chef Rachel Albert. You’ll find other great recipes in the book, available at Changing Hands Books and Healing Pages Books in Tempe.

Healthy Hot Fudge Sauce Hands-On: 20 minutes/ Cooking: 5 minutes/ Yield: 1 1/2 cups; 12 serv-ings Unsweetened coconut milk makes a great replacement for cream with half the fat and calories. For a lower fat content, use lite coconut milk. Using honey combined with a little bit of the herbal sweetener stevia reduces the total sugar calories and carbs.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup unsweetened premium or lite (reduced fat) coconut milk; additional 1/4 cup as needed to thin 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder1/4 to 1/3 cup (local raw) honey 1/8 teaspoon finely ground unrefined sea salt (Redmond Real Salt or Celtic Sea Salt)2 ounces unsweetened baker’s choco-late, coarselychopped into 1/2-inch pieces1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon pure stevia extract pow-der (with nothing added) or 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon clear stevia extract liquid

1. Combine coconut milk, unsweet-ened cocoa powder, honey and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture until hot and smooth. 2. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and vanilla and whisk until smooth. Taste and adjust as needed. If too thick, add additional coconut milk 1 tablespoon at a time. 3. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes, then serve. Refrigerate in a covered heat-proof bowl, or custard cups. 4. Gently warm leftover sauce in a heatproof bowl in a 250° F toaster oven or in a double boiler or sauce-pan over very, very low heat, stirring periodically. If too thick, add 1 or 2 tablespoons additional coconut milk.

Variations:

* If you don’t have stevia: Use 1/2 cup honey above and omit the stevia.

AZ Beer Week and Strong Beer Festival Feb 19th-26th Feel privileged to be part of Arizona’s first official statewide celebration of craft beers. Brewers from all over the state participate in over 100 events throughout the week-long celebration. This includes tastings, seminars, pub crawls and beer-pairing dinners. Events are held each day at varying locations throughout AZ. Now to kick this off, we are all invited to the Strong Beer Festival on Sat Feb 19th.This is a drinking and tasting extravaganza dedicated to those delicious beers that are strong enough to make the world a better place after only a few sips. Not only these, but other unique craft beers will also be avail-able on hand. Of course this means that a wide selection of top-notch vendors will be dishing out foods to make that brew go down even smoother. To keep the good vibe going, live music plays throughout. Admission gets you 15 tast-ing tickets and a commemorative 4-oz tasting glass to remind you of the event because I am sure some memories will get a little fuzzy. Cheers! 602-341-5724 www.AZBeerWeek.com

Blues Blast 2011 Sat Feb 19th The time has come for this annual festival to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Of course the only way to do it properly is to invite some of the leading figures in Blues music today to help us rejoice. This concert will be held under clear skies at the Mesa Amphitheater. The Tommy Cas-tro Band headlines after 4 award wins at the Blues Music Awards. Joining Tommy is Deanna Bogart, a Maryland-based pianist/saxophonist known for blending a mix of 1930’s style boogie and contem-porary blues sounds. Trampled Under Foot, winners of the 2008 Blues Challenge, are back from playing in Norway and are appearing in the Southwest for the first time. Local favorites Cold Shot and the Hurricane Horns are also hitting the stage as well as Krimson Chord, whose style is that of early 60’s Chicago Blues. To keep the music going, the Rythym Room will

be hosting the official after party hosted by Johnny Rawls at 8pm. Admission to the after party is free with ticket stub, $8 cover otherwise. Come and let your soul pour out through the music. After all, it is the blues. For tickets visit www.bluesblast.info

17th Sedona International Film Festival Feb 20th-27th Going on a weekend trip is always a good idea especially if it is to Sedona. It will be a full week of over 145 films, Gala parties, events and the overall artistic ambiance of film. Now this is not just a film watchers paradise, but a film makers perfect gathering as well. Not only are you able to mingle with experts in the field but attend free workshops as well! These range in topics from writing a screenplay and getting it pitched to Cinematography or the future of sustainability. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a professional, all levels are represented. Come up for the day or stay for a few more. Make sure to explore the website for headlining features and daily events. www.sedonafilmfestival.com

BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW

Both members of Daft Punk are very reluctant to appear in public and only rarely show their faces, mostly wearing futuristic, robot like helmets while on stage or during interviews.

Avril Lavigne has a way of setting fashion trends. On her first Saturday Night Live appearance, she wore a T-shirt for Home Hardware in her hometown of Napanee, and the store sold thousands of them.

AC/DC often times had trouble getting into their own shows because they looked just as scruffy as their fans.

The band Heart was originally known as The Army, and later White Heart.

On their MTV Unplugged appearance, Mike Inez of Alice in Chains wrote in marker “Friends don’t let friends get friends haircuts” on his acoustic bass, a stab at Metallica for selling out and cutting their hair.

The engagement ring Ben Affleck gave Jennifer Lopez contained a rare pink diamond worth about $1.5 million.

Relax, Just Do It

The 2000 year-old technique of Thai massage not only offers ultimate relaxation, but it is also a healing art that treats illnesses and promotes overall wellbeing. Thai Massage utilizes trigger point, myofascial, neuromuscular and manual techniques to increase circulation, flexibility and breathing; lower blood pressure; improve posture, balance and athletic performance; relieve pain; strength joints; prevent illness

and slow the aging process.

Thai massage’s effectiveness comes from its mix of energy and physical work. It is a deep, full-body treatment that begins at the feet and progresses up towards the head. Thai massage combines flowing movements, stretches and applied acupressure.

2 Tips for Weathering Dry Winter Skin

Cleanse Gently

While a long, hot shower or bath feels great after a long cold day. Unfortunately, hot water and harsh surfactants are highly effective at breaking down the natural hydrolipid layer that protects skin. Without this layer, skin is less capable of retaining moisture and more susceptible to irritation and damage. To avoid drying out skin choose a gentle cleanser use warm water, and keep showers short

Exfoliate

Exfoliation will help clear away dead, dry skin cells that build up during the winter, making skin underneath more receptive to the benefits of moisturizing products. Depending on your skin type, 1 to 3 times per week is enough to promote healthy skin cell turnover and get the most out of your moisturizer! Looking for a new exfoliant? Try Celloxylin Enzyme Activated Micro Scrub by Apriori just $56.80 for Sugar Scrub + Cleanse. The soothing sugar beet

crystals will help remove dry, flaking skin while reducing inflammation.

●● The FDA does not review cosmetic products or ingredients before they are put on the shelf.

●● 89% of the ingredients found in beauty care products are unevaluated.

●● The EWG found nearly 400 products sold in the U.S. contain chemicals that are prohibited in other countries

●● The average adult uses 10 personal care products a day – 1/3 of them contain one or more possible carcinogens.

●● Cosmetic ingredients are not meant to sit on the skin, they are designed to penetrate the skin – and they do.
