2014 SCION FR-S REVIEW

It’s small, it’s sleek, and it’s waiting for you – it’s the 2014 Scion FR-S, an updated version of the classic Japanese sports car. and it has plenty to offer in this 2014 Scion FR-S review.

On its exterior, it features a vintage-style long hood, but with the look and feel of a current day fun drive. Take note of the wide grille, angled vents, and smooth curves around the lightly flared fenders and hood.

The interior boasts the typical minimal sports car aspects, all proudly defined by carbon-inspired accents in clean, simple lines. Keeping with its minimalist theme, the Scion FR-S does not have many features, but in its favor, they are done well. For example, as part of its standard equipment package, you will find six way driver and four way passenger front seats, all adjustable manually, as well as flat folding rear seats, a leather-bound steering wheel for easy gripping, plus 8 speaker audio system with auxiliary inputs. What’s more, these items are bundled individually so you pay for only what you want, rather than paying for what you don’t want.

However, you do have options in this 2014 Scion FR-S review. For example, you can select a premium BeSpoke audio system with 5.8 inch LCD touchscreen display, wheel locks, mud guards, and carpeted cabin and trunk floor mats. It is missing a navigation system, which is not available at this time.

So it looks great, but how does it handle? While you can choose either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission, you’ll be surprised at the variation in its gas mileage in this compact, four cylinder, 200 horsepower vehicle. To note, the automatic transmission gets you 34 MPH on the highway, 25 MPG in the city, and 28 combined. However, the numbers are less for manual transmission - 22 MPG for city driving, 30 MPG on the highway, and 25 MPG combined.

Despite having just one engine and only two transmissions, and therefore not a lot of power, it does let you hug curves on fun scenic roads due to its solid, well-tuned chassis. Though its maximum torque output is only 151 pound per feet, the Scion FR-S certainly can enter corners at a cool 60 mph.
