Sciennes Chess Club
• Report
• 2016/17
Achievements
• One of the largest Chess Clubs in the UK with over 60 children attending.
• Came first equal or outright first in all Lothian Championships.
• The very best players at the school are on the fringes of the Scotland squad.
• The ‘A’ team is off to play in the UK National Schools Chess Championships.
• Participated in the Delancey UK Chess Challenge. Sciennes had nine
children qualify for the Gigafinal. These nine children will compete against
the best players in the North of England and Scotland.
New Developments
• We created a virtual Chess Club on ChessKid.com. This allowed all the
children to play games, watch videos and solve puzzles against one another
at home. Some of the children really embraced this with many of them
solving over 1000 puzzles!
• The club remains very inclusive. Classes are based on ability – starters,
intermediate and advanced rooms. Over 20 new children learnt how to play
chess from scratch.
• Sciennes remains an example to all other schools and continues to be
known for its chess excellence.
