Is it possible to count the number of apples a

From 30 April to 7 May, LIFE! Community Development (LCD) will be sending a team of medical professionals and youth volunteers to provide much-needed medical services to the village of Santa Fe in Cebu, The Philippines.

During this trip, LCD will be providing free basic medical services

to the villagers in hopes of helping the families living in Santa Fe improve their basic quality of life. The team is currently raising funds and support from family and friends to meet the expenses for this trip, including medicines and medical supplies.

As with all other community development projects, LCD aspires to continue involvement in Cebu beyond this trip and build lasting relationships with the Santa Fe villagers so that this first trip may grow to be sustainable.

When he (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Matthew 9:36

What does it mean to love like Christ? How did Jesus see the poor, oppressed and sick as He walked the earth? How did He feel as He interacted with the lost, homeless and the weak? The scripture is clear. Jesus had compassion.

Whether you’re a Christian or not, I encourage you to search the depths of your heart for tenderness as you read this newsletter. Most of us enjoy lives free of violence and oppression, of disease and sickness, of earthquakes and tsunamis. It’s no wonder that we know so little about the pain and suffering, the grief that so many people face every single day.

It is thus my prayer that as you read on, your eyes will be opened and your hearts softened, as mine were.

Yours truly,

#e Team

WHY SANTA FE, CEBU?According to a Cebuano, Santa Fe is one of the poorest villages in Cebu Province as it is on the island of Bantayan and is therefore less accessible. With a population of 30,000 people, the village has only one medical doctor whom many cannot afford. We all know that Cebu is a rather accessible tourist destination, but do you know that there are also many poorer villages, which are inaccessible, even for getting the daily needs for the vi l lages? Let ’s see from this illustration:

Most of the villagers are farmers and fishermen. Their produce and catches are seasonal, and that is their main source of income. It is sufficient for basic necessities, but to many, medical treatments are considered a luxury.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

The cost of this trip would be fully self-funded by our team going to Santa Fe. We not only have to fund for our personal travel and accommodation, we are also raising funds for the medical supplies, which are required to operate the mobile clinic. Each team member is required to raise a minimum of

S$1,500 to make this trip possible. Please help us help

the villagers of Santa Fe!
