• 1958 The Baathists created the Agarian Reform Law which sped up the process of getting land to small farmers, they also created large irrigation projects in the late 70’s.

• 1975 Iran and Iraq agree to boarders, and water rights.

• Abd al-Karim Qasim wanted Kuwait to return to Iraq but is opposed by Egypt to prevent Iraqi dominance.

• Elected by Amad Hassan al-Bakr for a vice presidency.

• 1957 Saddam joined Baath party as a low ranking party member who lead schoolmates in rioting.

• 1963 The Baath party overthrew the government and Saddam was allowed to return from exile.

• After the Iran-Iraq war Saddam invaded Kuwait for their oil as well.

• Israel bombs Iraqi nuclear plant 1981.• Arab league condemns

Iraq for forcing the Kuwait-Saudi boarder.

• Suddam’s goals for his presidency is to supplant Egypt as the Arab leader, and achieve a hegemony over the persian gulf.

• Allies join Arabic states who oppose Saddam for Desert Storm.

• Breaks a cease fire in 1985. • 1987 Iraq resumes war

against Iranian cities, Moscow pressures Iraq to end war.

human creativity.• Rule breakers could be put to death.• He made students memorize a

speech from the 7th century Governor of Iraq:– “Oh, People of Iraq, Oh, People of Hypocrisy, My name is Al-

Hajjaj bin Yusuf ath-Thaqafi. When I take off my turban, you will know me, I see heads that have ripened and need to be harvested, and I shall harvest them.”

• Life for people could have been better if Saddam less selfish.
