tempestuous drink

gets its name.

Sipping a classic daiquiri in a tiny bar that

oozes fading glamour, I learnt this bar was

actually a world-renowned cocktail bar called

El Floridita. The cantinero (Spanish for bartender)

informed me it was the birthplace of the daiquiri

and opened over 200 years ago!

Overheard an argument during a game

of dominoes about whether Mojito’s were

the work of Sir Francis Drake, Ernest

Hemingway, or travellers from further

shores. Still not quite sure where it came

from but I know that La Bodeguita del

Medio is in the centre of Old Havana.

Not to be confused with an ordinary rum and Coke, if you try to convince a bar tender in Havana that these are the same you may get chased down the Paseo del Prado.

Hopped on a ferry from Saint Thomas to an island called Jost Van Dyke (note that the ferry doesn’t run on Thursdays), there’s a bar called the Soggy Dollar which is incredible not only because it is where the Painkiller was invented, but it only has 6 chairs.
